Straight armlock from side control/half guard.
If straight is defended you go for the Kimura and vice versa.
Very common technique in submission grappling.

Ref was horrible. You don’t stand up someone in a full mount. maybe he previously worked for WWE. Hopefully Phil is on his way back, but until you have at least three V’s, I’m not sure we can call this a comeback.

He’s looking better than his last fight, got some of his steriod-mass back (which he had before, but lost when he went off the juice and started getting knocked around by everyone and their grandma). Sounds like he’s training more seriously, too, so good on him. I’m interested to see if he can pull it off, but I’m guessing the first decent opponent he faces breaks his jaw.

I didn’t see much wrong with Baroni’s technique when attempting the Kimura. He had one leg in and Jansen defended it pretty good keeping his arm straight. Baroni went from kimura, to armbar, and kept base for a possible americana. If he had side control, he’d be in a better position to finish the sub.

I think Baroni is happier with the KO.

How does that ref stand the fight up less than a minute afer Baroni gets full mount? That was strange. Obviously things worked out well for Phil, thankfully. He’s one of the most entertaining fighters out there in my opinion. It’s nice to see him get a win, because he’s been disappointing me a lot lately. Did anyone notice that Baroni had the kid mounted for under 20 seconds? As soon as the announcers announced it, the ref stood them up. WTF? WWJD? Mount is the most dominate position IMO. The standup was absolute bullshit, Baroni had just used the sub attempt to secure a full mount and was just beginning to posture up to deliver some punishment when it was stood up. Of course, it worked out for the best for Baroni, as Jansen looked absolutely lost on his feet and Baroni just threw a haymaker that hit the mark.

Baroni showed a lot of class by not complaining (a complaint would have been fully warranted here) and then again by not killing that skinny yellow shirt wearing douchebag.

Props to Baroni for a workmanlike performance and not blowing up when that puke tried to kiss him. Baroni actually looked under control - I know not much of an opponent there - but a KO is a KO (gotta love those heavy hands).
