It is a rather simple rule it just hasnt been officiated right. It is not just the fact the ref has to say open gaurd like some people say. Basically you can not kick a guy in the head who is downed by strikes if the fighter tries to buttscoot or do Jon Jones stupid tripod s*** they are free game for head / face kicks. I do not get why it is so hard to understand. Basically if a guy is already down he is fair game if he is knocked down – no kick. I think the audience confusion comes from the fact it has not been officiated correctly so far.
