I’ll help you, TONYSNOW. Yes, Elite XC does use a cage. However, the name of the promotion responsible for the Baroni-Hose fight is ICON, and they’ve been around for a long time in Hawaii. They’ve ALWAYS used the 4 sided ring with ropes, as well as rules similar to the old PRIDE FC rules, such as stomps, knees to the head of a downed opponent, etc.

What was this ref doing……oh just let baroni lay on the ground for an hour and have the other guy kick his legs…thats not boring…what happened to standing them up?

I’ve never been a Baroni fan, but give credit to that other guy there. He was being mauled in the 1st round and was taking serious shots including head stomps, but he came back.

icon is the hawaii mma organization. i think it was bought by elitexc so they just own it but its still icon, so they fight in the ring and not the cage.

Props to hose, phil is a warrior but needs to train full time and not just for fights. he should be a black belt in bjj by now if he was comitted.

Phil is build for 3 rounds, not 5 roungs. If it is 3 rounds, he would have won with the point system, because he got the first 2 rounds. I guess he didn’t pace himself for 5 rounds and got totally burn out. Plus, if you look at phils physic, you can see he juice up. That’s probably why he burn out so fast without roids.

Phil looked like shit. He’s always been a sloppy brawler and got beat by anyone with a little game, but damn. I do like how the ref let him get thumped on though. UFC refs stop way to quick most of the time.

Anyone who has been gassed in a fight knows how shitty that is. You have to hand it to Baroni, he got his ass kicked and had nothing in the tank but he hung in there.

The Kala Kolohe Hose fight with Phil Baroni was a good one no doubt! Hose wanted it more then Bologna & deserved it more. “Yes Bologna, a HAWAIIAN did take the belt!” Hose is the best fighter coming out of Hawaii hands down. To top that off he’s so composed, with Bologna talking mad crap, he was calm! THAT’S SOMEONE WHO DESERVES TO BE CHAMP! Lawler would’ve been a better fight had he not pull from the 2 fights Icon & Elite had for them (I know their first meet they were “suppose to” have, he was on that show “The Ultimate Fighter”, jumping around, with a “shoulder injury”)? Another fight that was planned for Hose & Lawler was Elite’s fault! They wanted Lawler to fight Hua. So three fights total that they were suppose to have….. CANCELED, none because of Hose. You gotta admit they had to pull the Icon belt from Lawler, that doesn’t matter he still has the Elite belt he won from Hua anyway. I can’t wait for the Hose vs Lawler fight, whenever that maybe. Hose improved his professional record to 5-1 with his fifth-round knockout of Baroni, who was later taken by ambulance to The Queen’s Medical Center.

Hose was clearly in control in the fourth and he staggered Baroni with a right hook-left uppercut combination. Baroni, his nose possibly broken, was deducted a point later in the round for fleeing.

Hose put the fight away early in the fifth with a left-right-left combination that sent Baroni to the ropes and down to the canvas. Two devastating straight rights later, the referee stopped the fight.

that ref sucked. hole got extra corner time, baroni was on his back for a ridiculous amount of time, and imo the fight was stopped early. sure baroni looked gas as hell but he was still intelligently defending himself. i dont know if elitecx has special rules or if it was just because he was a local boy but damn that was a bs stoppage.

If the UFC had these rules imagine someones head pinned in the corner of the cage and the floor and getting stomped. That would be ugly. With the ropes you can at least try and crawl out to avoid it imo but what do I know never been stomped before.

Am I the only one who thinks that MMA fights should not be in a ring? A ring is meant for stand up fighting. Its annoying everytime a ref has to reset fighters when they get to close to the edge of the ring. Are they just trying to save money? Are cages even more expensive?

That was not that great of a fight. Kala should have finished him sooner. Way sooner. Baroni is only good for the first round knockout, thats it. I would like to see more of Kala tho he needs to work on his technique. He’s got a big heart. I am definitely glad he won.

Phil Baroni just needs to retire already, he caught cracks from someone 15 years younger than he is.
