Paulo Filho Misses Weight By 7 Pounds For WEC 36

Paulo Filho could not make weight for his five-round WEC 36 title fight with Chael Sonnen (20-9-1). The WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho (16-0) has knocked the bout back to a three-round, non-title fight.

Paulo originally weighed in a plump seven and a half pounds over the 185-pound limit. After being given an additional two hours to make weight Filho could only drop from 192.5 to 189 pounds.

Ducking Sonnen? So he ended up eating his way out of it? I highly doubt it! I trained with him in Brazil and I know for a fact that he is a big 185 and remember that they use kg instead of lbs. He also just got out of rehab, remember? I can admit that 7 lb is a lot and it was a mistake, but to suggest that he is afraid is absurd.

yeah, this is complete BS. This means that Sonnen gets robbed of his hard earned title shot AND he has to fight a guy who will probably outweigh him by 20 pounds when they step into the ring.

Hard not to think he did duck this title shot. He knew what weight he had to be and to the guy training with him, you of all people should know how to make weight. His job is to make weight. He’s had all this time and frankly I don’t think he wanted this fight again. It’s just a shame, because even if Sonnen wins, he doesn’t get the title. I think if he loses the fight maybe he should get the title stripped. Sonnen has had to wait all this time while Filho sorts out his personal problems and this is how he gets rewarded. Weak.

Oh yeah, blame it on the metric system. If he can’t defend the belt due to suspensions and weight problems, WEC should strip him of the 47,360 drachm title. He should consider moving up and challenging Forrest Griffin for the 14.643 stone title.

Should it not be Sonnen’s chice if he still wants it to be a title fight, his the challenger basically he trained and deserves a title shot, and that fat lazy ass threw the weight in – who comes in knowing there 7-8 pounds over the limit give me a break he should be striped of the title. simple.

Why bother having weight classes if people can be allowed to weigh in 5 lbs over the limit? The weight classes are there to keep things even.

On that note it’s highly unprofessional and, quite frankly ridiculous to see a “professional” fighter miss weight by so much. It’s not like it was 1 or 2 lbs; he wasn’t even close.
