Patrick Deserved that win. He fought smartly. He focused on stand-up but still maintained on the ground except in the last part of round 1. Almeida’s only mistake was not going for the submissions and putting his hands down opening himself up.

Did Dana White hand Joe Rogan a 3×5 card telling him, “Suck Cote´s dick.” during the fight commentary? Almeida controlled Cote during the first two rounds, but all they could talk about was Cote. I´m starting to think that more and more of these UFC fights are fixed, or at least the judges are paid off.

Cote clearly won that fight. Ricardo had the cahones to raise his hands in victory at the end of the fight!? I’d give him the first round…but Cote clearly won the 2nd and 3rd. All Ricardo tried was pulling guard. He is one tough dude…but he clearly showed he is not in fighting shape yet.

Regardless, the Spider will destroy all in his path!

I watched this PPV in a bar, so almost all commentary was lost in the noise, but I remember a couple instances of hearing Joe Rogan heavily praising Cote during moments of absolute tentativeness and unproductive fighting on his part. Long story short, I wasn’t surprised to see him win this decision. Personally though, I don’t feel either fighter did a thing to justify a win, and it was so equally underwhelming it should have been a draw.

Oh, and M0rph3v5, I agree with you about Almeida dropping his hands. I expected more aggression out of Cote, and I was pleading for it when Almeida wasn’t protecting himself. He was asking to get knocked out!

Not a great fight at all… Almeida was content not doing anything (typical one dimensional BJJ fighter) and hoping Cote would take him down. Cote definitely pushed the pace the entire fight, but probably should have taken advantage of Ricky having his hands on his hips for half the fight…

Almeida won the first round and Cote the second but none did enough to won the third(imo).It should have been a draw.

peter…who says he can’t fight on the ground? Have you ever seen Chuck Liddel fight? Ever see his ground game? Nope…but we know it’s there. Take down defense and striking are good enough for a lot fighters.

90% of the UFC would look bad on the ground with Almeida. Cote had a game plan and stuck to it. Was it boring…yes. Wanna talk boring…then watch every fight Machida is in!

The UFC has been so inconsistent with their cards lately… only one worth rating as good this year!… and the free show on spike looks like it will be half assed…

IF Banned puts on a decent to good show… soon it will be lights out for the snore fest known as the UFC!

Thats what happens when the promoters play favorites and give an undeserved tittle match to one of their TUF babies.

I’m glad this was a shit card, now people can see how shit the UFC is.. They have all the talent, and no skills!

fakename is right on the money here… Cote won that fight, but Almeida was inviting him to punch his jaw off the whole time and Cote just didn’t seem to notice. He was not nearly as impressive as he was against McFedries but this is one of his only fights that was not entertaining, and it certainly wasn’t his fault. Almeida did not do anything aggressive the whole fight.

for those who haven’t realized it yet, Rogan does this in every fight. He will talk mostly about *his* favorite fighter. it’s been the norm for years. Rogan is getting better though, he will throw in some praise to the other fighter as applicable.

And when you’re fighting a top-level BJJ guy and you have a purple belt, you’re at a disadvantage. A purple belt isn’t black, but it’s not shit either. He is a striker, that’s why Almeida was backing up to the cage to negate that. He did a good job but beyond that, his striking was shit. So the same can be said, if Almeida doesn’t get a more rounded game, he won’t be around long.

Odd stradegy for Cote. In the second round when Almeida was sucking air and had his hands down, Cote was swinging wildly, not really taking time aim, then in the third when Almeida seemed a little more composed, Cote became much more reserved. Patrick didn’t really look tired or anything. I don’t get it….shoulda put him away in the second.
