Nice finish, but it doesn’t do anything for Thiago. He stays in limbo in the division. Maybe fight Ellenberger next…

wow I know he was rocked but heres another classic case of a one sided striker who thinks he can slug his way to all victories…weeden em out. Everybody needs ground skills.

PitfighterZ Says, in 11-5-2011 at 18:44:57 from

Well, it would be a good chance for Thiago to prove he learned some wrestling and for Ellenberger to show he can bang with an elite striker.

Props to Papy for taking that fight.

lol that dude pulled the wicked chicken dance when he got rocked.

Good win for Thiago, peppy was pretty tough, but not tough enough.

tobes Says, in 11-5-2011 at 22:29:10 from

Thiago doesn’t perform badly against wrestlers. As chargerzfan notes, he handled Kos, he also demolished Hughes. The loss to Story was very close (some thought Thiago won) and Fitch is the number 2 WW in the world (yes, he’d beat Diaz, and yes, he’d beat Ellenberger).

Thiago vs Ellenberger would make some sense actually.

Doyle Brunson Says, in 11-5-2011 at 23:06:15 from

It wasnt his lack or ground skills that lost him the fight he got rocked hard standing on his feet that lead to the easy choke finish.

Welcome to the UFC

KungFuLowKick Says, in 11-6-2011 at 02:11:05 from

Maybe he was too confident taking that fight.Anyways overconfident or not you won’t win with 8 fights against a guy like Thiago who’s a huge powerful striker brown belt in bjj and becoming better and better in TDD.Unless the fighter has an extensive striknig or grppling background 8 fights vs Alves is gettibg fed to the lions.

libo Says, in 11-6-2011 at 13:54:46 from

well abede made 2 crucial mistakes, he called out alves and decided to outstrike him, in the words of rampage ‘that’s what your punk ass get’

steam machine Says, in 11-7-2011 at 00:26:27 from

@3:47 I knew Thiago was playing possum. He kept backing up, then threw a right with such confidence (which missed) that I knew his opponent was in trouble.

Shinka MMA Says, in 11-7-2011 at 00:38:06 from

Has Alves always talked like he has teh downz?

Nice fight though. Clear victory. Submission was the icing on the cake.

idgaf Says, in 11-7-2011 at 21:20:36 from

He really didn’t look all that bad until he got caught because he was dropping his hand like Thiago said. lol dude looked like a new born deer when he got rocked though!
