I’m totally for RallyForMarkHunt. I understand he probably doesn’t deserve a title shot. But, what’s the worst that can happen? If he loses it just proves the nay-sayers right. If he wins the UFC has an underdog story they can sell for years to come.

Pffft! People want Hunt to get a title shot because of his striking. With that logic the UFC might as well bring back James Toney to fight JDS. And with either of them, if they did happen to win as soon as they defended the belt against anyone with any ground game at all they would lose. So hypothetically Ken Shamrock could be next UFC champ if Hunt wins and had to defend his belt against him.

I would watch it. Hunt was always a little overweight if not a lot sometimes, but one thing for sure, he can take punishment, has a granite chin and possess a heavy set of hands.

Ex K1 fighter, but…. Ground game? Cardio? against Junior?

Lando that comment rates you as a “TooL”. And a tool you shall be. Hunt is a K 1 striking champ, with an ever larger frame. He has a chin that is out of this world, a good scramble and a decent clinch. IMO he would give Junior the fight of his life.

Before any more “Hunt will be subbed instantaneously” comments, please actually watch Mark’s fights. Dude is a natural even in his first fight with Judo golden boy Yoshida on basic submission defense. The kimura must be kryptonite of sorts… :)
I think most of you are counting him out because of his record, and his physique.
We haven’t even seen Cigano grappling barely at all in the Octagon….he hasn’t had to. Maybe Hunt pulls of an armbar…ya never know.
Styles make fights. ;)

Im all for good fights,but in a main event/title situation it needs to be the number 1 contender or the most deserving fighter.Mark Hunt is a badass,and hopefuly 1 day he gets his shot but this fight should be against Mir or the next in line.

The UFC has never been “fair” or even coherent in their title fight matchmaking, so I don’t really think it is a stretch to give one of the toughest fighters in history, who is on a winning streak (yes, against second-grade competition), a shot. Less deserving fighters with less deserving numbers have gotten title shots before. Hunt would definitely be game against JDS even if JDS is the favorite to win. But, JDS is the favorite to win against any HW…

Comparing Hunt to James Toney is Criminal! Comparing Rampage to James Toney is Criminal! Hunt and Rampage are great MMA fighters with serious MMA knowledge, like Sub Defense and Take Down Defense. Just cuz they’re strikers does mean you compate them to James Toney!!

I’m a Mark Hunt fan but he doesn’t deserve it yet. I know Hunt is well rounded (no pun intended), and the fight would be good, but Mir deserves it much more. I’d be excited for Mir -JDS. The fight could end anywhere. For the record, I am a HUGE Mir fan. NEVER count him out of any fight. He speaks well and is a great ambassador for the sport.

Toney would get clowned against MArk in anything except boxing.Toney is so dumb that he actually thought it would be a good idea to time and uppercut on Randy’s shot as a takedwon defense…Mark is actually training in MMA for years and if you look at his recent fights,he had some grappling skills.Not spectacular by all means but it’s enough to stay up and KO guys.I agree Mark has a HUGE chance of losing in that fight but comparing him to Toney is like comparing him to a turd.Toney is a brain damaged close minded boxer who thinks he can beat MMA fighters.Mark is an ex kickboxing world champ who trains MMA.Huge difference.

I totally disagree. Many ‘real mma fans’ know who Mark Hunt is and how good he can be. I don’t think he can take JDS, but I’d love to see it if Overeem is out.
