Diaz worked him over pretty good and it was a pretty impressive win. It’s unfortunate he had such a falling out with the UFC because it would be nice to see him back with a bigger talent pool, he’s got a ton of skill and heart.

I have to learn to punch like Nick. People would just give up after a while of getting hit so much. I’m sure they have more power than it seems. I like Nick and have since UFC 47 (or 46 maybe) when he fought Lawler.

Diaz is a serious dick, but I love to watch him fight. He has some serious skill and toughness, one of my favourite fighters to watch, but once again the guy seems like a total prick, I truly hope he finds some humility to add to that impressive arsenal of his.

Nick also has a great chin, he’s taken shots from Robbie Lawler and others that would have dropped most people….he almost got caught with a few kicks in this one…he takes a bit too much punishment, but he’s still young and hopefully will get better defensively like machida or the spider…once he gets his hooks in, it’s a wrap..

Damn. When he KO’d Lawler everyone was shocked. When he submitted Gomi everyone was shocked. I can’t stand that pitter patter boxing style but I have no choice but to respect it. The one person who figured him out thought way too much of themselves to finish him. You always hear about actors who passed up the rolls of their lifetime. Well, right behind Fedor not fighting Couture I’d put KJ Noons not rematching Diaz at second for all time dumbest MMA contract refusals. Didn’t anybody noticed that Smith was not defending at all? maybe they put Smith too soon after his last fight. i don’t know, Diaz landed almost 400 punches that’s not normal. Smith wasn’t a 100% good to fight.

Nick Diaz is a good fighter and he works to his strengths. He couldn’t bust a grape with his punches but hes good at using his length to his advantage. His arms are so long that he’s literally teeing off on guys because they aren’t in range to counter attack. His ground game is also top notch and he can take a punch. I’d like to see him against better competition Shamrock was finished and Smith can bang but not much else …he quit in this fight …didn’t want to take anymore punishment and gave up his back.

Diaz is a “body snatcher”the way the jamaican boxer Mike Mc Callum used to be. I love the way he is boxing his oponenents bodies. With the small MMA gloves is pretty damm efective to hit the ribs.

Sparred with guys like that at the gym. very hard to work around especially when the guy has a good clinch. try close the gap and they clinch. You my not like the style but you have to give respect it. personally i think it’s entertaining and affective.

i think nick diaz knows exactly what he’s doing in terms of PR…he knows that the sport needs it’s villains and he’s willing to play the part. all you have to do is like at the shamrock fight before and after. totally different guy who showed frank a lot of respect. i like the fact that he doesn’t sugar coat anything or kiss anyone’s ass. too much emphasis on being pc these days. from reading the previous comments it appears 90% of the people on here would pay good money to see him get knocked out. i think nick’s game is on point in the ring and outside of it. to those who don’t like his punching style, we’ve seen it vs a power puncher in gomi. nick’s eye was fucked up after the fight but he wore the guy down. he is always improving his skills. can’t wait to see him fight again. props to both diaz brothers.

That is why tradtional boxing techniques SUCK and a martial art originally designed to fight someone bigger and with longer reach than you dominates as demonstrated by Machida. Even though Diaz had all that reach his face still got busted up, because he boxed!

Never understood the hatred for the Diaz boys. In the ring, these guys put on a serious show, and that’s all that matters to me; that’s why I watch. This is the only fight all night that wasn’t a yawner, so kudos to Nick for the bright spot in an otherwise drab evening.

Yes, Nick’s a great mma fighter, but if he thinks his skills would come close to or even faze a Roy Jones Jr, then he’s way mistaken and in way over his head. Man, Diaz is top-tier boxer as far as boxing in MMA goes. No one punch knock-outs like Chuck Liddell, just hundreds of strikes to the same places until you can’t see or think straight. Smith probably wishes it would have been a one-puncher, because those hurt for the split-second they hit you with it and a couple hours when you wake up, but that constant beating, that hurts the entire time your getting hit with it and a day or so afterwards.
Just depends on what Diaz wants to do next. If he goes for Middleweight, he may make it in Strikeforce, who knows, but he wont make it past that organization. He should stick it out at Welterweight, maybe pummel guys in catchweight fights every once in a while to appease his ego, but don’t try for Middleweight.
