Nick Diaz Pulled For Carlos Condit vs. Georges St-Pierre At UFC 137

Carlos Condit will be brought in to take the place of press conference no-show Nick Diaz. Condit now will fight UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre at next month’s UFC 137 event.

Diaz missed today’s press conference and also missed yesterday’s press conference in Toronto, Canada. Dana White was not too pleased with Diaz and made the change.

“Nick Diaz has lost his opportunity at the welterweight championship, and Carlos Condit gets it,” said UFC President Dana White at a Tuesday press conference in Las Vegas.

Condit was originally set to fight B.J. Penn at UFC 137. The UFC has not found a replacement for Penn as of yet.

Well, if you sign a contract saying you will do the press crap, you better do it and not act like a star-struck celebrity. It’s not like they decided yesterday that he was going to be there.
Condit will bring hell to GSP. Much more than Diaz, Condit will grab this chance and not let it go until either him or the champ is unconscious on the floor.
A last-minute Condit is a f*cking scary and motivated Condit.
GSP will have much more problems adapting to Condit’s style short-notice than having time to prepare for Diaz.

It’s called being a professional athlete, and having respect for the sport you are supposed to love, I don’t see any other fighters having a problem doing this.

Terrible, absoloutly terrible. GSP dodged a bullet this time. I ve always suspected that when Dana want’s to change a fight he simply tosses the fighter some money and they’ll claim an injury. I dont suspect that is the case in this situation, but i will draw attention to the fact that because Dana has such an overwhelming monopoly of influence in the UFC that the conflict between Nick and Dana, as being told to us, may not be entirely accurate. Maybe Nick just told Dana to go F*** himself which resulted in him being ousted from the card. What we do know is that Nick has lobbied for this fight for years, and it’s unbelievable that he’d throw it away over two pressers.. common.

Among other things mentioned, I think poor communication has something to do with this. I honestly don’t think Dana understood how big a problem this is for Nick. Hell I’ve been following Nick for years, suffer from some of the same social problems and still didn’t realize he was this bad off. Seriously guys, who would do this on purpose? I’m not going to defend Nick, nor his actions because these are his responsibilities. But still, this should really be an eye opener as to Nick having major problems.

Now I’m sure he would never admit to having done so, but I truly feel that if he knew how big a problem this was going to be for Nick, Dana would have taken a few steps to ‘try’ to make it a little easier for Nick. Up to and including supplying the joint that would allow him to sit and answer questions.

I’m not banking on it, but I hope things get worked out and maybe even put Nick against BJ on the same night and a possible title shot in the future with stipulations. Nick really is a tremendous fighter.

It’s a shame Diaz doesn’t know how to communicate his issues or seek help and maybe catch a break from the UFC regarding all the mandatory promo crap.

Not surprising though. Tough for someone, especially a man who isn’t scared to fight any man, admit he’s scared and overcome with anxiety around people he doesn’t know.

It’s this anxiety/suffering that probably spurs him to be great inside the ring. It’s unfortunate that it’s taking a toll on his life/career.

All the bravado, tough talk, stupidity/ignorance and drug abuse he has exhibited over the years is merely a manifestation of his inability to deal with his emotional problems. Lack of education and introspection compounds the problem.

Like Diaz, hate him, ignore him, doesn’t really matter. The guy is a fighter, 100%. He is also one to FINISH a fight, which makes him more fun to watch and more of an attendance draw. I’d rather watch Diaz fighting to finish than GSP or Frankie Edgar running around and avoiding contact. Saying Condit is a better fighter is just plain foolish. Go ahead and say you don’t like Diaz but don’t lie to yourself and everyone else about his talent. This blows for the fans. We wanted to see GSP get in there with someone who won’t run away from him. I like Condit as a person and a fighter, more so than I like Diaz, but recognize he is inferior to Diaz.
