Back of the head point deduction was bogus. Illegal knee was legit. Probably should’ve been a draw with the deduction, Marquardt 2 rounds to 1 with none. Leites’ standup is much improved.

to those who think Nate was Robbed… you’re crazy.. he pushed the pace.. he got the takedowns.. but Thales won the first round.. and there were point deductions in the 2nd and 3rd.. if he wants to win.. maybe he should think about his moves before he makes them..
oh.. and howabout the piledriver with only seconds left.. it’s illegal to drop an opponent on his head like that.. it’s a wonder Nate didn’t get downright DQ’d..

Nate obviously lost his focus more than once and that knee was freaking brutal. Now I personally like those knees but rules are rules.

Nate won that fight hands down even with the deductions. There simply is no other way to call it.

Leites didn’t even have to continue the fight after the illegal knee. Round 1 could have gone either way, Nate almost got knocked out. Obviously 2 out of 3 judges thought Leites won the round.
For all those complaining about the decision, let someone knee you in the face while you are down and see what happens. Nate has no one to blame but himself.

Spiking an opponent on his head is illegal. Interesting how a guy like Karo Parysian is known for judo throwing people on their head.

Even on this season’s Ultimate Fighter, in Gerald’s pre-fight interviews against Amir, Gerald jokes and laughs and says how much he loves body slamming people on their heads.

Interesting how an important rule like this is overlooked.

Elbow..from herbs p.o.v. he had warned him previously, Thales was hands, knees facing down and clearly wouldnt have seen that albow coming, to avoid it. So Nate threw it recklessly imo. Glad he lost on points for being an arse.

Plus i side with ‘pile driving’ being illegal too?
Slamming and head hitting back/side/front is different and cool .

First time ive ever seen a piledriver utilized in the sport. As cool as it was, that’s the type of move that could kill someone, thats the last thing I want to happen to the fastest growing sport in the world. Marquardt definately won that fight, such bullshit

What are you fools smoking on? Marquadt lost the first round 10-9 after being knocked down. Leites wasn’t knocked down. The second he utilized an illegal knee, pt. was deducted. The best it coulda been for Marquadt is 9-9 and although I think arguably you could’ve given the round to Leites making it 10-8 (he took Marquadt down yet again towards the end of the round and was close to a submission whereas Marquadt only did a little GnP). So entering round 3 it’s 19-18. Then Marquadt gets another pt deducted for punching to the back of the head, so now its 19-17. Round 3 was pretty even. Both fighters were exhausted but I have to say that Leites did more than Marquadt, all Marquadt did was lay n’ pray. So I see no way that the fight could be any worse than 28-27 Leites. It should’ve been 29-26 Leites actually. But how was there even a split decision? Thats messed up.

The deduction for the knee to the head was fair. That elbow was clearly to the side of the head, not the back of the head. That was a bad call. He did’t drop him on his head. He dropped him on his face. Herb Dean said to Thales earlier in the fight not to grab the fence and said “this is your only warning” Then he gives him an other warning in round 3. Marquadt got ripped off.

With Nate’s deduction for the knee and Thales for grabbing the fence again it should have been scored:
Rd1 10 Lietes 9 Marquardt
Rd2 9 Marquardt 9 Lietes
Rd3 10 Marquardt 8 Lietes

28 Marquardt 27 Marquardt

why don’t they fine refs a percent of there pay checks? also they should be given footage to study of previous mistakes or even good calls. this enables consistency. everyone has there own opinion including refs, but if the powers that be organize a general consensus of what should be done you’d eliminate a lot of the crap calls. I believe they do this for cricket, but it’s applicable to any sport.

Okay, not gonna comment on the decision… too much bs going on in this fight to pick a clear winner. The pile driver, though, was insane. I was watching it live and I cringed. The UFC is lucky they didn’t have a broken neck and a paralysation on their hands, here. How many pro wrestlers have been confined to wheelchairs just trying to FAKE this move? People can argue about the official rules all they want; the UFC is asking for trouble if they allow this kind of garbage to go on (and I’m not sure how much respect I can have for someone who pulls something like this, even in the heat of battle).

Fuck Nate Marquardt. He was losing until he hurt Leites with that huge (and illegal) knee. If Leites quit there, he would have lost, so Leites granted Marquardt a new life by deciding to continue when he was up on the scorecards and badly hurt from an illegal strike. Then Marquardt hits him in the back of the head, yielding a warning, that should have been a point right there, honestly, then he complains about losing another point even though he was pounding on the back of Leites’ head for the entire fucking fuck and just didn’t do it once, but Herb still called him on it, he should’ve lost the point anyway. Then he fucking PILEDRIVES him, are you serious? Fuck Nate Marquardt, I hope he never gets a title shot and looms in PANCRASE obscurity until he dies.

it’s a sport with rules, people bitching about the ref doing their job are wild hillbillies that just want to see blood, that easily could have been a DQ Leites was trying to single leg herb dean after the knee and was stumbling around the ring. he could have called the fight there. he gave marquardt a gift.

I like how Leites was warned not to hold the fence in the 1st round, it was his “only warning”. Then in the 3rd round Leites holds the fence again and the ref just tells him to stop. That should have been a point deduction. Nate got screwed big time.

well i could’ve sworn that the rules state that an opponent is down when he has three points of contact with the mat leites clearly was on his knees and by the rules he wasn’t down he does try to block the knee so i hate to say it but nate won

I agree with Drew, Leites stand up is improved, but he was physically dominated in that fight. He is still too one dimensional, the second point deduct was clearly ridiculous. Anyone can see that Marquardt is the better fighter. If you cannot see that, then you just do not understand mma.
