Gouveia caught him a few times with some punches to the chin. If it was Silva, Marquardt would have been knocked out. Gouveia was slow and he didn’t use his legs not even once. Against a powerful fighter like Marquardt, you need to take his mobility out. Great victory!

ATT is essentially a camp of really talented, but over confident and lazy fighters. Alves, T. Silva, Gouveia, Aurellio… all middle tier. They tell each other how good they are and don’t work hard enough.
Have fun being gatekeepers at different levels.
Not to take anything away from Nate. Hes solid. Wilson just wasnt a real contender.

This was the real fight of the night! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, Wilson Definitely has the power to end it one punch as we all saw in the Jason Lambert fight. the finishing combo was nothing less than amazing.

i agree with chutebox on the att comment. It certainly seems that way anyways. As far as this fight while i was thuroughly entertained i was expecting way better standup from marquart didn’t keep his hands up the whole fight. If he went to fight anderson like that he would get dropped. Marquart needs to get his hands up, work a little more technical boxing/standup and wrestle silva if he wants any shot at beating him.

I wasn’t impressed with Gouveia. He didn’t let his legs go and was beaten mentally.
Marquardt seems like he’s the head of the pack, but I don’t see a different outcome with Anderson Silva. Bring on Maia vs. Marquardt for the #1 contender.

Despite what most of you think Anderson Silva is not a God. He’s a man and he can and will be beaten one of these days. Nate Marquardt may not be the one to do it but he’s clearly the second best Middleweight in the world and he has very few holes in his game. That being said the so called experts on this blog talk about his hands being low during this fight. What they don’t say is that he stayed out of Gouveia’s range all night and darting in and out to deliver his strikes. He was also able to keep his hands low because he used good head movement and footwork.
Marquardt has all the tools to be MW Champion and he trains with the best camp in MMA right now. I don’t think he’ll get the shot right now because then he’d be in the same position as Rich Franklin but if he keeps winning this impressively the second title shot will come.

On the mmatko forum board, one of the users quotes Bruce Lee in his signature with “Any technique, however worthy and desirable, becomes a disease when the mind is obsessed with it.” Nate’s finish may have been a little sloppy, untechnical… but it worked, it was powerful, overwhelming, and used at an opportune time. Critics… stfu. I do agree though, if he goes into the cage with Silva and keeps his hands low like he did in this fight.. hes getting KTFO. Yes, he did a great job keeping distance with Wilson, but lets face it, Silva sets the pace, and he covers the distance faster then anyone, and if Nate thinks hes got faster reflexes then Silva… its a first round finish unless Silva toys with him like he did Cote.

He is lucky he got the KO with all of the time he gave Gouveia to recover. After the flying knee that landed, most of the strikes in that ridiculous high kick combination missed.
