Nate Marquardt vs. Jake Ellenberger Fight Set For UFC 158 St-Pierre vs Diaz

Jake Ellenberger (28-6) will now meet former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nate Marquardt (32-11-2) on the March 16 card, The Canadian Press first reported Today.


This recently added fight comes after Rory MacDonald was forced to pull out of his UFC 158 fight against Carlos Condit due to a neck and back injury. As a result, Johny Hendricks, who was originally scheduled to fight Ellenberger, was matched up against Condit, leaving an opening for the former UFC middleweight contender Marquardt to come on board.

UFC 158, headlined by Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz for the UFC welterweight title, takes place next month at Bell Centre in Montreal.

Oh Diaz… please don’t fail the drug test. Sadly, I don’t think you can win, home boy. You still my boy, but you can’t match the speed, endurance, or strength of GSP. I want to say you’ve got a good chance on your feet, but GSP proved he still has a solid chin in his last fight. Diaz best bet is sneaking a sub from bottom late in the fight when GSP becomes overconfident in his take downs and ground and pound. I think this fights gonna be ugly. I’m more excited at the prospect of Hendricks taking Condit’s head off.. man I’ll hate that guy forever after his coward tactics vs Diaz.
