Typical American all you care is about the Win/ Loss record of a fighter, never really paying attention to the fighter’s skills, and his ability to put an entertaining fight.

Mefninja I have to disagree with you on your assessment of Pride. If you watched enough Pride fights you would see that the top fighters fought top competition more than fill in’s like this guy.

Cro Cop fought Fedor, Minotauro Noguiera, Aleksander Emelianenko, Wanderlei Silva twice, Victor Volchanshyn and Josh Barnett to name a few. Every single one of those guys were fought when they were in their prime.

Wanderlei Silva fought guys like Kenzushi Sakuraba 3 times, Quinton Jackson twice, Dan Henderson twice just to name a few. Keep in mind that Sakuraba had defeated half of the Gracie family including Royce. Sakuraba submitted Quinton in Pride and was subsequently ko’d 3 times by Silva.

Pride was way tougher and their fighters are top notch. Silva quite simply has fought one too many wars and his career is over, but there is no doubt in my mind the best 205 pounder ever was Wanderlei Silva.

Guys like Shogun will show what he’s made of, and people will see soon what he really can do. I also find it strange how 2 belts in the UFC are owned by Pride fighters who never held a belt in Pride, yet no one can give any credit to Pride for this. After Noguiera does away with Sylvia that will be three former Pride fighters holding belts, but this guy was a champion in Pride also.

Give it at least one more year for Pride fighters to adjust to the softer rules of UFC, then we will have a better stick to measure everyone with.

i dont like the fact that UFC rules advantage the wrestlers and we all know why because US is full of wrestlers… i mean come on not even Vale Tudo kicks? one of the reasons why UFC is less exciting than Pride FC is that so many wrestlers going for take downs and just ground n pound oh yeah they dont try very hard to even pass the guard… not even submission just … cant show skills of MMA. also elbows… they are just brutal weapons that causes cut n stop the fight which noone wants to see in the fight. if they allowed Vale Tudo kicks at least the opponent on the ground could still fight against the guy on top instead of hugging each other for whole 5 min…

I agree with NIV and dirty 7-30. Pride was the TOP organization and had a more dynamic mix of quality fighters. The Pride fighters will get adjusted and do much much better in the UFC. For one thing….cage fighting favors wrestlers. It sucks when I see a good fighter get smuttered by a wrestler on the fence. I know it is all part of the game but it doesn’t favor the Pride fighters one bit….I feel that they should unify all of the MMA rules as well as decide on either cage or ring…not both.

One thing that I really hate about UFC is that it is truly, like dirty 7-30 said,…PRO american. That freaking U S A chant is bothersome and disrespectful to the fighters of other nationalities. (I can’t wait for the Redneck foolasses to comment….typical Hillbillies) It is OK to be patriotic but minimize those stupid chants. Also – If people are truly MMA fans…watch fighters from other organizations and keep an open mind.

The fans may be obnoxious, but the organization itself, the fighters it encompasses, and the Joe Silva’s phenomenal matchmaking that pits them against each other make for some amazing competitions. My favorite fighter being GSP, there are non-stop ‘USA’ chants in every one of his fights, which I find intolerable. The boos when fighters go to work on the ground are also pretty bad. But, as I mentioned, this doesn’t detract from the quality of the fights, and fans will grow up with the sport as it becomes more mainstream.

As a side note, the Nevada gaming commission and other organization won’t sanction fights that involve head-kicks (I think NJ is just now saying they’re ok, correct with if I have this backwards), but until they are all in agreement UFC can’t adopt these rules. I see them coming in eventually though.

I agree that UFC is incredibly pro-american & downright discriminant against all other nationalities. most of the fighters in the UFC are either American or Brazillian which is something I never understood. You know there are 5 other continents & over 270 countries to choose fighters from!!!! let’s see some diversity like the old UFC days.

I too think that the “USA” chants every time GSP fights are deplorable & a shame to the sport. GSP shouldn’t take that kind of disrespect. He is a true champion & a true sportsman & for him to have to put up with the attitude of Matt Hughes & all his brainless redneck fans just to get Dana White to cut a paycheque is an abhorrent injustice.

Furthermore it is a travesty when an obiese sloth like Tim Silvia can still be regarded as a contender for the Heavyweight Title by “winning” every one of his last 10 fights with a sloppy decision!!!

To further emphasize the pointless practice of cutting weight! Joe Rogan said that Joe “Diesel” Riggs is a natural 220 lbs… he cuts over 50 lbs to get to 170 & then what??? gets back up to 220??? what is the purpose of weight classes if this is the case???

Not to mention that some fighters like fan favorites such as Forrest Griffin get all the time in the world to prepare for a fight while less favored fighters get only 2 weeks to get ready and then obviously lose due to lack of conditioning, etc. This was always the case with BJ Penn. And such was the case in the Rashad Evans vs. Tito Ortiz fight. It belittles Tito’s name to put Rashad on the same level as his never mind putting him in the same cage.

All things considered, I have to say that the UFC is a disgrace to the sport of MMA & Dana White should be ashamed of his manipulating tactics & moneygrabbing sensationalism. He’s the Vince McMahon of MMA!!

Finally people that see what I have been saying for so long… I’m not anti-American, anti-UFC.. what I am is anti-bullshit… and that’s what UFC and their fans are.. bullshit… and Dana is a black eye for the sport… He thinks “he is” the sport… and America is the center stage… to generate money he gives Americans what they want, American Champions…

That’s why I miss PRIDE… Yeah at times they were pro-japan (but never screamed “Nippon” when a Japanese fighter was fighting a foreigner) that’s because the competition was so incredible, that is was great to have a Japanese fighter up in the ranks, and is showed that the audience respected all the fighter equally… the organization respected the fighters… isn’t RESPECT a huge part of martial arts?…

As an MMA aficinado I feel robbed when I watch UFC, they don’t put the best skilled fighters in a cage, they put the ones that generate the most money, mainly feeding the American audience because all the Americans want to watch is Americans fight and win.

I knew the UFC was like this, but since there was always pride, I didn’t really care. I hope M-1 gets rolling soon.

The reason some Pride fighters have had trouble adjusting to the UFC is quite simple, really. The UFC has a number of ex university and Olympic wrestlers. These guys brought with them a tradition of sucking weight by large degrees (meaning many of them fight at nearly 20 pounds above the weight they weigh-in at). The other UFC fighters have been forced to pick up the technique themselves in order to compete. In general, Pride fighters are used to fighting at very close to their weigh-in weight. The result is that when Pride fighters have met UFC fighters, they have been essentially fighting competition from a higher weight division. If they are going to succeed, it is going to be because they learn to suck weight and fight guys their own size.

As for soccer kicks…. the only reason Pride eventually allowed them was because they are hard to land, so are stomps, not as easy as it looks, remember these are trained fighters, not some punks off of the streets… yeah the ones that land make the highlight reels, but the hundreds that miss never do. They don’t do as much damage as elbows, and they are way harder to land than elbows.

Okay, for all you idiots who think that the UFC is pro-American. I will name top 3 American fighters in each weight class. You name any other country that has that many top tier fighters from the same country. This as already done on Sherdog, and there are more top 50 ranked American fighters in the world than all the other countries combined. But I will name some off the top of my head for each weight class, see if you can do better.

HW Couture, Sylvia, Barnett (or Vera)
LHW Rampage, Liddell, Henderson (or Jardine)
MW Henderson, Franklin, Linland (or Marquardt)
WW Hughes, Serra, Penn (or Fitch)
LHW Penn, Sherk, Stevenson (or Koscheck)

Some guys are multiple weight classes, so I put in alternates just in case. I left off great fighters too. I’m sure there are a handful of Amercan fighters I forgot.
