Mirko Cro Cop To Face Mighty Mo Siliga At DREAM 10 In July

According to Josh Gross at SI.com, he has a source familiar with negotiations for Dream 10 and was told on Wednesday that Cro Cop would fight on July 20 in Saitama, Japan.

As of now, Cro Cop claims that he hasn’t signed a deal with DREAM despite UFC President Dana White and DREAM executive Mike Kogan’s claiming that he did.

As of Thursday afternoon, the DREAM organization had yet to announce the bout is part of DREAM.10, which takes place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Just a few hours after Filipovic’s first-round TKO of Mostapha Al Turk at UFC 99, the Croatian fighter reportedly informed White he had instead signed a three-fight deal with DREAM. Soon after, USA Today’s Sergio Non reported that Mike Kogan, who runs the U.S. operation of DREAM’s parent company, also confirmed Filipovic’s DREAM deal.

Cro Cop’s bout against Al-Turk came as a result of a verbal arrangement between the fighter and Dana White for three fights, White told Yahoo! Sports. Asked Sunday about White publicly blasting him for allegedly backing out on their deal, the former PRIDE champ denied anything was set for him to leave UFC for Dream.

I know Dana probably had this coming, I will be honest I am a huge Dana fan but you can only screw with people for so long before Karma catches up with you. Either way what Mirko did was kind of dirty, but he has to look out for himself and he did what he had to do.

I just lost mad respect for Cro Cop if this report is accurate. All that talk about how he wanted to show the world he belonged in the UFC. All that talk about how he wanted the UFC HW title. You know it had nothing to do with money this time around. It is pretty clear that Cro Cop is afraid of the UFC’s HWs and does not feel he can compete. So he we go fight so cans in Japan and stroke his ego. Chump move!

crocop probably figured that he would get his ass handed to him again in the ufc, dana would cut him and he would be out of a job. so he signed a deal with dream for after he got out of the hospital from his ufc fight. but to mirko’s surprise he actually eye poked his way to a victory. now he is acting like there is no contract with dream so he can hug on dana’s nuts some more. crocop looks gunshy if you ask me. he is a thing of the past like most of the pride fighters. i think the pride fights were so brutal with the soccer kicks and head stomps that their fighters ar all fucked up now.

People can bash Mirko as much as they want, but Danna White has been using and abusing fighters for too long now. I understand he had to it in the beginning to get UFC out of the hole, but it’s more than time to show fighters a little respect. That’s why Fedor won’t sign with him. No respect at all.
Dana is a great businessman, but the sport will only grow now if great names like Fedor and Cro Cop have more freedom to sign for a few fights without losing all their rights to their own image and freedom to fight in other venues.
IMHO Dana should start making more umbrella-style contracts with training camps and the camps should take care of the fighters. That would bring much more freedom to the fighters and still feed the UFC and WEC with top contenders. TUF could offer a 6 figure contract with one of the camps. That would also help professionalize the training camps and avoid irregularities, bringing the sports commissions into the whole game and practice like in any team sport, not only on the day of the fight.

The bottom line is he’s 35 he feels like he’s finally 100 percent healthy and he wants to fight three more time this year and the ufc is offering him a fight 6 months from now thats why he choosed to fight in dream!!!! and if u guys are mma fans u guys will see that he is fighting next month lol he aint afraid to fight anyone hahaha

CC has a legitimate gripe in his criticism of ufc’s procrastination. ufc just basically pays fighters NOT to fight at times; while PrideFC would produce super stacked fight cards and tournaments. ufc’s tactics are all about build up, hype and how it generates into money. Not defending Crocop by any means; people seem to forget he was all but lost vs the NOT a real heavyweight Overeem. But his observation of ufc practices is right on!

this is good for fighters. mma is about fighters, not presidents or organizations. companies competing to get the fighters they want is ultimately the best thing for fighters and the best thing for the sport. people who are actual fans will watch their favourite fighters regardless of what label is on their gloves.

Very smart move by Cro Cop. The heavyweight division in the UFC is way too shallow, HWs outside the UFC are top competition. I’m glad Cro Cop did the right thing to solidify his legacy.

theetompster is right. This is good for fighters in general. The more competition between organizations the better. Dana can’t go around thinking he owns MMA. UFC is just one venue; one island in a big sea.
Moreover, Cro Cop is actually going to fight earlier in Dream, than he would in the UFC. People need to stop thinking that UFC is like the big league of MMA. There are no hierarchies.
Mirko doesn’t need Dana’s bull to fight so he chose a better contract.
