Saturday night’s fight was a battle of the undefeated Cotto versus the TV star from the Contender in Alfonso Gomez.

when training dogs into fighting dogs, trainer normally pit the fighting dog against someone’s house pet. they do this to build confidence in the fighting dog.

judging by the swagger and posing it illicited the desired effect.

margarito made short work of a world class fighter and he did taking shots and giving them.

cotto might wind up doing the same to margarito, but the question that will be answered is will this newly found over confidence do him well or ill when he is in there with a gamebred dog.

If you see the fight like i did Gomez Stuck in there he hit back and he fought hard. They were evenly matched early. The difference is that Cotto was way way way more powerful he hurt Gomez easy and that slowed gomez down.

As for Margarito and Cotto. Mardarito might as well change his name to margeret cuz Paul Williams made a joke out of him and Quintana made Paul Williams look like a joke and Cotto killed Quintana so Margarito no disrespect he’s a hell of a boxer and not someone to take lightly but Cotto will smash him.

I think what should happen is either Cotto go up and weight and fight Kelly Pavlik or Kelly go down in weight and fight Cotto. That would be a fight of the year.

as for Mayweather he’ll need to prepare for DeLahoya 2 and Cotto cuz there is no backing out of fighting Cotto.

Cotto did everything right here. Head movement, footwork, level changes and kept it mixed up. Gomez’ corner told him to stand there and throw at the end of Rd4, then started bitching at him for not moving at the end of Rd5. The fight was over anyway so it didn’t matter, but frustrating/confusing your own fighter is obviously a horrible coaching tactic. I had to pull security the night this aired and was going to request it be posted, but as usual MMATKO was already on it.

Gomez isnt a fake boxer, thats like sayin forest griffin is a fake mma fighter because he was on a reality show. They are talented and shows like TUF and the contender just give these fighters a chance to shine. Sure he got outclassed but it was by a better boxer on the night. everyone has there moments! Wow!!! I have a lot of respect for Alfonso Gomez, he really took a lot of punishment and continued to compete. Simply put, Miguel Cotto demonstrated that he was in a different level in terms of boxing than Gomez.

Good stoppage, how much more shots do gomez have to take to convince you that he didn’t have a chance to win the fight. Oh by the way Paul Williams beat Margarito because the ref allowed him to hold through out the whole fight. Margarito despite his length is an inside fighter and Paul is a mover and a jabber. Paul was allowed to fight his way but the minute Margarito got inside to work he was continually held by the taller Paul Williams. And when the ref broke them up Paul moved and jabbed again and when Margarito got inside he was held again. It was a frustrating fight for Margarito. The ref should have at least warned Paul to stop holding.

Mayweather is afraid of Cotto and won’t fight him. Cotto’s management has repeatedly asked for that fight and Mayweather simply doesn’t want it.

Cotto would never fight like this against a real contender. He would never EVER walk back after hitting combinations as he did on the last round with Gómez. If he wanted to, he could have finished the fight. I think he realized Gómez was hurt and did not want to have his demise, either by permanently injuring him or even killing him on his conscience.

Cotto will fight with Margarito next… That will be a good fight. They are both hard punchers. You will see a very different Cotto on that fight.

Mayweather is thinking of fighting against De La Hoya. If that isn’t being a coward, I don’t know what is. De La Hoya is washed up… He should go back to promoting fights and making substandard music…

Cotto simply outclassed/outboxed the kid Gomez and its a good thing that the doc stopped the fightSmart move by the Doc,saving what was left of Gomez.
Delahoya looked uhhhmmm “ok” against stevie but as much as i like Oscar PBF will simply uot point him again and it will be a boring ass fight(thanks to Gayweather!!)

Margarito is a good fighter but way overratted ,has no defense and is too stationary(plus slow),Cotto will dismantle the Mexican tornado by the 10th round via blows to the ribcage and gut….guranteed!
