People have been black-balling Karate since the first 4 or 5 UFC’s. Many have said “Karate Sucks!” since then, and favoring BJJ, Muay-Thai, Wrestling, Boxing, etc. Which is fine since most people in MMA use those anyway, so you might as well too.

But guys like Chuck Liddel, GSP, Machida, and Seth Petruzelli (who just beat Kimbo Slice last night) are all Karate practitioners. And they’ve all achieved success in MMA (although age is likely catching up with Liddell now, and Petruzelli isn’t exactly top-10 in the Light-Heavyweight division in my opinion).

It’s not so much ‘which style/art is better’ but which one suits you (your height, weight, age, speed, endurance, flexibility, agility, body-type/shape, cardio, fitness, your ability to take punishment and how much of it, etc.) and which style/art would be better utilized against your opponent, repsectively.

As far as ‘who wins/loses’ maybe it just depends on what day of the week it is for guys…And what time of month it is for girls.
