Brutal. Referee should have stopped it earlier..

Manhoef is lethal but Bonjasky’s too big/tall/strong for him. Those leg kicks are ferocious.

This fight really illustrates just how dangerous K1 strikers are… even though Melvin is a beast in MMA and everyone fears his striking… against the top K1 strikers he is simply out matched… those damn kicks are brutal. Manhoef was forced to play the inside game since he is an in-fighter. However just the size and reach of Remy was too much for him to handle.

great heart and skill by both fighters.Melvin was just over matched by reach and kicking.Melvin showed me alot though getting up constantly and trying his hardest a true warrior.Great example of standup by remy once again tho.

Melvin was just too short nothing else, he wasnt too weak or anything because Remy was covering up knowing any one of those hooks could have taken him out, he was not scared or anything jusy cautious which proves Remy knew Melvin was just as strong or even stronger. K1 is notorious for mismatches, so was pride but either way thats a good showing and some great heart from Melvin because Remy is a Giant and a great striker, Reach and height are a great advantage because watch at 6:45 how melvin is swinging upward and Remy just knees him to the ground LMAO

great fight, haha the tall dude only threw kicks and the short dude only punched was like a puncher vs kicker fight, that tall dude had to weigh more than the little dude.

It really demonstrates a couple things — Bonjasky is so much bigger than Manhoef, this wasn’t even a legitimate fight. You’re seeing a 6′4″ 230 pound fighter against Manhoef who can fight MMA at 185. It also shows that K-1 striking is different from MMA striking. In MMA, Bonjasky wouldn’t get away with throwing all those high-kicks, flying knees and what not. He’d end up on his back so quick. In most cases, MMA fighters don’t have the luxury of being that aggressive and free with their striking arsenal. They have to be much more under control and concerned with their defensive wrestling and ground.

So this wasn’t a commentary on the lack of skill of MMA strikers by any means IMO.

Melvin shouldnt had give up on striking the legs of Remy. Throwing only punches and working in the inside made him predictable and open to those flying knees. Melvin knew he woulf have to put this guy out working inside but not unidimensional as he did but he always shows lot of heart getting up after the knockdowns. I think if they were using MMA gloves it would be easier for Manhoff to pull a KO on Remy.

i had to stop watching after a the second round cuz it made me sad watching melvin get outmatched in a fight where everything including the rules clearly favored Remy. Melvins got a lot of heart tho, and i think the 2nd knockdown in the first round was kinda iffy.

It’s funny that no one has heard of bonjasky, or wonders, what would happen if he worked his ground game and wrestling /clinch skills. is it just me or has remy put on some timber? looks a lot bigger than he used to, i know he broke his leg so maybe it’s afterfat…

and he’s 6 foot 4….

i trained for a while with him in holland and his knee work is amazing…

I think that their stand up equally good, the biggest difference is their height. So Remy looks more skilled with his kicks, but as a fighter fighting a shorter guys, he knows his kicks shuld be the main weapon.

Same for Manghoef, his punching looks to better than Remy’s that’s because he is fighting a taller guy, he shold be punching. If he decided to throw kicks that would leave him too open.
