Early stoppage. Sakuraba was just getting warmed up. I think he was trying to let Manhoef tire himself out by using his nose and face to absorb those hammer fists. He’s wiley like that.

Sakuraba made Melvin look better than he is. What was Sakuraba’s plan coming into this fight? He was asking Melvin to knock his head off, covering so well on his right side, but leaving his left side completely open, which is Melvin’s power kick/back foot (right leg). That’s what initially rocked Sakuraba.

It was pretty cool though, when Melvin grabbed his leg like a child, pulling him over and away from the ropes to only worsen the ass beating.

Sakuraba way too old, and he fights at heavier weight classes than he should be, Sakuraba looks middleweight to me. He should retire, he’s way past his prime.

Wow, after that kick that put Saku on the ground it was just brutal to watch. Melvin just kept throwing bombs at Saku….he just got manhandled. Maybe its time to quit. Painful to watch him go through that beating.

This fight never should have happened. Stupid and dangerous matching-making and Sakuraba knew it. He did not want to take this fight and said it several times and joked that he didn’t even want to show up.

Despite all this he did show up and did fight. He knew how dangerous the fight was but he fought anyways for the fans and because he’s a true warrior we should all respect.

He did not want to even be in the tournament in the first place and he was right. At this point in his career he should only have super fights against fighters like Rickson, Royce, or Kiyoshi Tamura- Not be fed to young destructive beast like Melvin.

Poor saku took too much of an unnecessary beating then. The refs love giving Saku every chance, but even then it was a bit too late of a stoppage. Manhoef is a beast. Love the knees on the ground. All MMA should have that rule.

I hope Saku retires or they give him one last fight vs a can so he can go out with a win.

honestly guys we all predicted the outcome of this fight within seconds of hearing these names. look how sakuraba performed against gracie, that says it all he was obviously thrown in there as a stepping stone for manhoef. saku looks so sucked up and old compared to two years ago.

That japanese fighter beat 4 Gracies, Current UFC Champion Quinton Rampage Jackson, and UFC Champions Kevin Randleman, Carlos Newton, Vitor Belfort, and Ken Shamrock. He’s old and outclassed by younger, stronger fighters now- but show some respect. It’s like watching one bad game of Jordan on the Wizards and saying that he’s “awful” at basketball.
