The fight between Melvin Manhoef and Evangelista Cyborg Santos at Cage Rage 15 turned out to be one of the biggest slugfests anyone has ever seen.

Manhoef has always been known as a slugger with a kickboxing style. He came into the fight as the light heavyweight champion. Cyborg came in on a 4 win streak.

I just watched this fight last night. They are both very impressive strikers, but they got gassed!! I think the ref was just waiting for one of them to hit the canvas so he could stop it. Very impressive!!

Great fight w/ great hearted fighters…FYI Cyborg almost had a calf crank in the first round…thats what he was goin for at the last moment of the 1st rnd. and i believe he would have gotten it with 10 more seconds maybe not cause i would have sunk it in right away so maybe he didnt know that he could have calf cranked, or didnt know what one was

The first half of the first round was impressive: each fighter giving it their all. Manhoef clinches, throws a devastating knee, backs up to take advantage, and then… nothing. Stands there. Cyborg stands there. They talk. “how are you feeling today?” “Quite good, mate. Cheers. After this you want to go down the pub for a pint?” They gab about gossip, Justin Timberlake, how fat they are.

Seconds pass. Suddenly, Cyborg reverses.

That’s only one of two things: They were paid off to throw the fight after it looked like “anyone could win,” and there was a “last minute finish, like in a Rocky movie,” or Melvin’s a great striker, but even with a good clinch, even with one crippling blow after another, he was too inexperienced to capitalize on it. I’ve never seen him before, but I assume that he’s got the experience.

Damn. That was crazy. Melvin literally ate some shots just so he could conserve energy and had just enough left in the tank to land that left hook and knock him out. Awesome fight

I would have love to see what would have happened had the ref not stopped the fight. Horrible stoppage!!!! I wonder who would have ended up on top, albeit hitting as softly as possible.

when i saw this fight over a year ago i watched it like 10 times, to this day its still dosent bore me and ive seen it a hundred times. it really is like a rocky movie, i love how cyborg dosent realize he gets ko’d and wakes up trying to throw those baby punches to melvins chest half unconscious. ive been telling people to watch out for this guy for a long time, hes one of the most technical dutch kickboxers and has brutal power.

their conditioning was not that great, but both hav great heart keeping the pace up like that, even when they were exhausted there wasnt a weak strike thrown.
but….
i think forest could take em cuz he can last longer in a high paced fight and take some hits(ex. ultimate fighter 1 finale and tito). i think they have simalar styles and it would be a great match just like this one.
and to say that it makes ufc look like whimps is just retarded….hav u not seen the fighters in the 205 class? go check it at ufc.com
