melvin could easily give edgar or henderson a solid run for their money. he lost to jlau the same way hominick just lost, they both got too hyped up to fight in front of a home crowd and rushed in and got caught. it doesn’t change the fact that guillard is a freak of an athlete and in my opinion is a top five lightweight. ask evan dunham how he feels about that.

@kungfulowkick- Frankie vs Bendo has been confirmed as the main event for ufc 144 in japan.
OT- Jim Miller 8-1 in ufc and Melvin in his last 9 fights is 7-2. I can somewhat understand this as a number 1 contender since Diaz is just coming off a fight and we don’t know when he will be cleared to fight. I’d like to see the winner of this fight face Diaz and have that determine the number 1 contender. Then again, where does Maynard stand?

Too many good lightweights. They all could fight for the title next IMO. You got Guida, Guillard, Diaz, Maynard, Cerrone, Jim Miller. And quite a few other decent names. By far light weight is the most stacked Division.

What ever happened to Sean Sherk? He dropped off the map hard. I guess he’s a bit older now. But he would fare well against any of the top guys in the LW division. I agree with shocktime. The problem with the lightweights is that there are so many guys, and no one guy smashes everybody. Styles make fights, and on any given Saturday, a lot of these LWs could win or lose. Even Maynard had a questionable win over Diaz in his title run. Sotiropoulos was making noise then lost to Dennis Siver. Siver was making noise then lost to Cerrone. Jim Miller looked all set to fight for the title then got derailed by Bendo. Dunham was in the hunt til he got knocked out by Guillard. Guillard looked prime for a title shot til he got choked out by Lauzon. J-Lau has a relatively recent loss to Sam Stout. Pettis needs to build back up after the loss to Guida. Guida got his title bid undone by Bendo, who got his title shot taken by Pettis, but then built it back with three legit wins against top LWs. Any given night, styles make fights, MMA math doesn’t compute… Melvin needs this win against Miller and then one more win against a top dude IMO. Diaz should also fight for the title if he gets one more win over a legit top LW. Don’t have them fight each other because then the list of contenders gets shorter.

I don’t like him has a fighter, he my be athletic and no doubt a great fighter, but he thinks he is better then he is, he got beat plan in simple by JLau. Diaz and JLau will for sure fight for the title before this clown.
