Mauricio Shogun Rua To Fight Chuck Liddell

Shogun Rua agrees to fight Chuck Liddell in non-title bout this June.

Rua will look to get back on track after his submission loss to Forrest Griffin in his UFC debut. He has recovered well from his knee surgery and has gotten back to his regular training schedule.

Chuck Liddell appeared to be back on form in his win over Rua’s ex-teammate Wanderlei Silva last December.

The loser of this bout will find it tough to to get back in line for a title shot any time soon.

shogun is a waay better version of wand.
who has better submissions and can strike just as good, has the knees and elbows and can take the fight to the ground with better submissions then wand.
wands gameplan for chuck in their fight was heavily flawed.

i got shogun in this one if he doesnt do what wand did n jus try and trade the entire night with a counter puncher.

The reason Showgun gassed so earily was because he was not allowed to take roids as they test you after the fight, unlike Pride were they never checked.

This is one of the best non title match ups I’ve seen in a while. Hopefully it will live up to the hype. I think Shogun was a little shell shocked in his first UFC fight against a very good Forest Griffin but I think he may just pull this one out.

WOW wat a match. Both these fighter have already proven what their capable of and i think it could go either way. thats gonna be a badass fight though, cant wait to see who comes out on top. i think if there standing up exchanging punches chuck will have a the advantage because thats chucks whole game plan and if shogun can hit him with good kicks/knees and take him to the ground it will take chuck out of his game plan and he will have the advantage. who knows, it will be good

If some of the best Div.I wrestlers couldn’t take Chuck down in college, and the best wrestlers in MMA eg.(Couture, Randallman, Monson, Ortiz, Pele, Babalu, etc.) couldn’t take or keep him down, I don’t see Rua keeping Chuck down. I think that’s also what will make it an exciting, stand up fight. Although if Rua gets hit with the same type of shots from Chuck, that Forrest hit him with, he won’t just be a little hurt or rocked, he’ll be out. Chuck also has the edge in the toughness and chin dept., Chuck wins by KO/TKO, rd 2.

What’s this roid bullshit about Pride fighters? As far as I know, no one from Pride has ever tested positive for roids, but you can’t say the same for the UFC (Sherk and Franca?).

I have to say that Chuck has serious balls and I admire him for taking this fight when he doesn’t need to.

This would be an awsome fight. I will give this fight to Rua, his striking abilities are more technical than Wandi, he has some serious combos, and he doesn’t do silly shoots like most guys have against Liddell, since most were wrestlers.

I really don’t see Liddell’s style of backing away and striking opponents as an effective way to beat Rua, Chicken shit style I call it… I remember QJ trying that against Rua in pride, and he got demolished. If Rua lets Liddle come to him, he will take him down and submit him, but most likely Liddell wont… since he likes running away and strike charging opponent… YAWN….

I think Rua tanked in his fight against Griffin because he wasn’t used to using energy fighting off the fence/opponent. In Pride it was easy to use an opponent momentum to flip him to the opposite side and escape thus preserving energy, in the UFC if you get pinned on the fence you will use plenty of energy trying to get out. And I think this really caught up to Rua.

The reason guys get caught in the ufc and not pride is because prides drug testing was a joke and the ufcs is strict. Randleman got popped, he was a pride fighter. everybody knows alot of people were juicing in pride and got away with it. as far as people saying shogun uses roids, lol, thats crazy ,i think he barely even lifts weights , let alone uses steroids, shogun was never on roids. Nick diaz said that every test he took for pride should of came up positive for THC but not till he beat prides big japanese superstar (GOMI) did they decide to notice it and suspend him as if to say somehow it was a false victory. pride made up their own testing rules.

honestly i don’t know what happened to shogun when he was fighting forrest. it looks like he gassed after the 1st round & he didn’t do none of da fancy kicks he’s notorious for (the ones dat knocked rampage out). & face it forrest is a sloppy fighter so dat was a gimme win for forrest….

the reason why shogun gassed in that fight is not because he couldnt take roids,. its because he suffered a knee injury during training and couldnt complete his full 6 week routine. his knee is 100 percent now after getting surgery and you will see the old Mauricio Rua. Guarentee he pounds Chuck.

I know for a fact that chuck will beat the hell out of shogun and then one more fighter and get his title back He is going to fight evans again and evans isnt going to get his lucky as shot again,hes strong but chuck is the best fighter in the UFC If chuck would have connected his punch evans would have been sleeping.
