It was a long road with a couple unexpected twists, but there you have it folks. He worked his ass off for that belt. I’m kind of smelling sour grapes here. GSP dominated completely. Both standing and on the ground. However we also saw great skills in ground defense by Sera. Not everyone can escape GSP after giving his back to him like that. I also think Sera was kinda hoping to get a lucky haymaker like on the first fight. If you look at how he handled himself while standing up, it was about it. No combinations, aweful leg work and some give it all punches.

Ok here we go, the excuses:
1. GSP was on steroids, how could Serra win against a CHEATER!? Please, if you know what to look for you can tell who is on steroids generally, and GSP’s lean physique is normal for a trained athlete. Compare him to the bulky Sean Sherk, and you’ll see what I mean. And remember, all these guys are tested, period.
2. GSP was afraid of Serra’s dominant standup! If he had traded on his feet, he would have LOST!
Wrong, the truth is that Serra is actually better on the ground (he is a Blackbelt in Gracie BJJ) but he could do nothing on the ground, either.
The truth is that GSP was simply telling the truth when he said his head was not in the last fight. He held off to be gracious, but later told the truth: His Dad was very ill with a brain disease that the Doctors could not treat, and his cousin had died in a car crash–he took a fight with Serra he shouldn’t have (few would have considering his personal situation) and got caught with a lucky punch.
Serra had his 15 minutes of fame, and we can congratulate him on that, but it is now over. He will continue to compete but at a much lower level from here on. He will fight Hughes and lose, then sink to his true level somewhere at the bottom of the pack.

Secondly i am a fan of both GSP and Serra. But Serra has never been good in the ring / cage, he should stick to coaching and sport BJJ ( Gi or No-Gi ). I am a huge GSP and MMA fan but it’s hilarious to me that so many naive assclowns out their actually believe there are no fixed fights in MMA. This fight was an obvious example. Wake up. They were already hyping GSP VS. SERRA 3 before the fight even started. If Serra won this bout there would be no rubber match and no enormous paycheck. Look at Serra’s intensity in their first match and look at it this one. He didn’t even show up. It’s is a business. Early stoppage my ass, anyone who says that has never been in a fight before. Those knees were absolutely devastating. I have no doubt that Serra has some internal bleeding and/or some broken ribs. Knees like that can do some serious internal damage, especially when they are not being defended. It is the refs job to stop the fight when the fighter is in danger of being seriously injured. This is a rule and just because you want to see someone get knocked out or dragged around the ring and beatin to a bloody pulp does not mean it should not be enforced. GSP is amazing! He learns so fast, and he learns from his own mistakes. That’s the true fighter attribute. He is not like many “macho” looking “I’ll screw up everyone who steps into octagon” kind of guys. Wow GSP is truly an absolute machine. A complete fighter – GSP came prepared and in phenomenal shape. Anyway GSP vs Hughes was the sickest GSP I’ve seen, this is right up there as well, even though the fight wasn’t as exciting as the one vs Hughes, in terms of utter domination, it still shows GSP is mentally and physically very fit and ready to take on all challengers. He has the potential to stay champ for 3-4 years, he’s only 26. He has to not get lackadaisical in any part of his game and he needs to STAY hungry for those years. As long as he’s hungry to stay champ, he will indeed stay champ as long as his body allows him to.
It’s all mental, look at Arlovski, another one of my favorite fighters until he got the Tim Sylvia complex. Now he’s Andrei Silvia, Rogan said it, fighters live and die in their head. Andrei’s only 29, and still physically at the top of his game, he’s just shot mentally.

GSP’s game plan to a T…… if you’re unsure as to why Serra couldn’t keep his hands up in the latter portion of the fight, ask yourself, just how dominant and explosive is GSP’s ground game. This man dismantled Josh Koschek who is an incredible wrestler in his own right. Walked through Frank Trigg. Layed the smack down on Sean Sherk’s ass. And beat some dude by the name of Hughes. Good stoppage, Serra just sat there as he was eating those knees, and it did hurt him because at the end he started moving around to change positions and moving his arm down to block them. He didn’t want to though because he would eat some punches to the head. If anybody thinks those knees don’t hurt you are an idiot. A few more of those knees Serra would have broken a rib or two. I’d like to see him at least considered for Canadian Athlete of the Year as opposed to the figure skaters, skiers, rowers, Steve Nash and hockey players that are typically chosen. I’ve never been able to look at Rich Franklin the same way since his fights with Silva and can’t think of any reason why Silva wouldn’t be able to do the same to GSP. Georges walked in, and used every aspect of the sport. He scored on striking, he had beautiful takedowns, he had the best position the whole fight, Serra did not know what to expect, takedowns or strikes nor did his camp. Georges had control of the fight, meaning he dominated. Serra got him into guard, Georges escaped each time. What part did I miss that Georges did not control?
He absolutely made Serra’s win over him seem like a fluke, because Matt looked like he had absolutely no business being on the same mat as him.
Early stoppage? Matt didn’t complain. The ref said it loud and clear “Defend yourself, or I will stop it.” All Matt could do was turtle, and Georges was on the verge of breaking his ribs, which Matt is probably still pissing blood.

cant one say that serra was not in the right state of mind. after what i have seen from serra, he is not one to smirk or down-play the integrity of the sport which he most seriously did before the bell rang in both of those rounds. yes, serra is a squeaky voiced totally obnoxious borderline gay acting dude, but disloyal to the game and/or disrespectful he is not and never has been. he laughed in the face of st. pierre before the bell rang in both of those rounds, and I felt he laughed at the fans and UFC in those two instances, as if saying this fight is going to be too easy. Makes me think that serra took this fight the way st. pierre took their first fight. III is going to tell the truth.

If GSP lost the fight the way Serra did all you douche bags would be whining about the early stoppage at the very end of Rd. 2 and everyone in the crowd would have been booing. Why do people want to see silva and goarge fight? Goarge is to small for a middle weight and silva would be to skinny as a welter weight. would be a good fight if they could maybe do a catch weight but one fighter would have a disadvantage.
