Ian Says, in 4-20-2008 at 01:55:20 from

Weak stoppage but there was no doubt it was only going to get WORSE and WORSE for Serra so it made no difference

Serra got outclassed big time

Kevin Says, in 4-20-2008 at 01:55:35 from

there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that st. pierre would dominate this fight. his first fight with serra, he wasn’t in the right state of mind. but he’s just in a place in his mind now where nobody can beat him and it shows from this fight and his last fight with matt hughes especially. what’s next for GSP though? a rubber match with Serra? i don’t think Serra or anybody else in that division as a matter of fact can even come close to competing with GSP. we’ll just have to wait and find out

Ewon Says, in 4-20-2008 at 01:56:31 from

smoke1 Says, in 4-20-2008 at 01:57:09 from

Niv Says, in 4-20-2008 at 01:59:49 from

Complete domination, that’s how you show who is the champ.

Is there any better way to beat the guy than by dominating him at his own game.

Who is going to beat this guy, GSP is as dominant at in his weight class as Silva is in his.

Congrats to GSP, may he be king for a long time. As classy a fighter as there is in the game.

2nd Round Knee, Knee, Knee..Serra folds.

Looked like serra gassed. He was breathing heavy before the end of the first round and all he did was pull guard.

Can’t blame GSP for not doing better, Serra just layed there.

Let’s just not go nuts, is was a mediocre fight.

GSP, devasted Serra with those knees looked a little like Pride, but without the knees to the head. That’s hardly used in the UFC, but now a new outlook on the ground game that everyone is going to start implementing especially after this fight. Good fight props to Serra.

Also, Serra didnt tap, and i was pissed to see the fight stop there.

those knees were not affecting serra at all, he said so in the post fight coverage, and i am a damn big GSP fan.

Serra gained some respect in his ass kicking, and the fight should have continued, GSP had a better strategy above all else

Steamer Bean Says, in 4-20-2008 at 06:01:57 from

It was a long road with a couple unexpected twists, but there you have it folks. He worked his ass off for that belt. I really like the combo GSP threw in round 1 on the ground, left, right, knee to the anus. Looked like it hurt like hell. Bet Matts ribs are f***** up bad. I agree Hughes vs Serra should be next, though it will be a boring fight, they were supposed to fight a long time ago. GSP will hold that belt for a long time as long as he keeps his head right. (and as long as Silva doesn’t drop weight)

whitey Says, in 4-20-2008 at 06:16:41 from

“This fight was obviously fixed. Serra knows how much a rubber match will pay off. Matt didn’t even show up for this fight. BULLSHIT.”

I’m kind of smelling sour grapes here. GSP dominated completely. Both standing and on the ground. However we also saw great skills in ground defense by Sera. Not everyone can escape GSP after giving his back to him like that. I also think Sera was kinda hoping to get a lucky haymaker like on the first fight. If you look at how he handled himself while standing up, it was about it. No combinations, aweful leg work and some give it all punches.

“GSP = ROIDS! Wonder when it will come out??? Just a matter of time…”

Maybe, i don’t know. But one thing is for sure. If he was american he would be a hero for you people. But because he is not, then he must be on roids.

GSP on roids?

harleycon5 Says, in 4-20-2008 at 11:19:31 from

Ok here we go, the excuses:

1. GSP was on steroids, how could Serra win against a CHEATER!? Please, if you know what to look for you can tell who is on steroids generally, and GSP’s lean physique is normal for a trained athlete. Compare him to the bulky Sean Sherk, and you’ll see what I mean. And remember, all these guys are tested, period.

2. GSP was afraid of Serra’s dominant standup! If he had traded on his feet, he would have LOST!
Wrong, the truth is that Serra is actually better on the ground (he is a Blackbelt in Gracie BJJ) but he could do nothing on the ground, either.

The truth is that GSP was simply telling the truth when he said his head was not in the last fight. He held off to be gracious, but later told the truth: His Dad was very ill with a brain disease that the Doctors could not treat, and his cousin had died in a car crash–he took a fight with Serra he shouldn’t have (few would have considering his personal situation) and got caught with a lucky punch.

Serra had his 15 minutes of fame, and we can congratulate him on that, but it is now over. He will continue to compete but at a much lower level from here on. He will fight Hughes and lose, then sink to his true level somewhere at the bottom of the pack.

lil momma Says, in 4-20-2008 at 11:26:49 from

It’s called being objective. Matt Serra wasn’t even in it and GSP dominated. That’s all there is to it. You peeps need to give GSP more credit. But of course, because Matt “the Terra-ble” Serra lost, automatically GSP is on ‘roids. I don’t see any of you bitches screaming that Chuck Lydell or Rich Franklin are on ‘roids.

And let’s think about this logically. If GSP were on ‘roids, do you think he’d be as classy as he is? I’ve never heard him talk s*** about anyone, we’ve never heard of him going into any ‘roid rages. This is obviously the case of the sore losers.

The Empress Says, in 4-20-2008 at 11:29:48 from

Bateman Says, in 4-20-2008 at 11:34:31 from

First of all? i´m NOT american :)

Secondly i am a fan of both GSP and Serra. But Serra has never been good in the ring / cage, he should stick to coaching and sport BJJ ( Gi or No-Gi ). This was pretty much what i expected the outcome of the match would be… GSP is proplerly the second best all-round fighter in mma today, next to Silva.

You don´t need to be big to “juice” up. the boys in the Tour-De-France are NOT big! but they are ALL juiced up!

GSP has looked freakish in his last 3 fights now. Hughes, Koscheck and now Serra??? Maybe even earlier??? There is just something weird there???… His strengt and conditioning? it seems off??? Still roids don´t win the fight alone, but it does give you a head start to the other guy!

And just because… “everybody does it!”… Don´t make it right!!!

Looking forward to Fitch vs GSP.

Whoever said the fight was fixed needs to get their head screwed on right! If that was said after the first fight, where GSP was obviously not himself, it would have made some sense, but GSP utterly destroying Serra as he did in the second fight is NORMAL. That’s is the way is should be; no explanation or conspiracy theories needed, lol! GSP is simply far and away the better mma fighter. In fact, it almost seems unfair that they had Matt Serra go through this humiliation. Poor monkey :)

Durkastanian Says, in 4-20-2008 at 15:25:09 from

I am a huge GSP and MMA fan but it’s hilarious to me that so many naive assclowns out their actually believe there are no fixed fights in MMA. This fight was an obvious example. Wake up. They were already hyping GSP VS. SERRA 3 before the fight even started. If Serra won this bout there would be no rubber match and no enormous paycheck. Look at Serra’s intensity in their first match and look at it this one. He didn’t even show up. It’s is a business. Examples of fixed fights; Franklin vs. Shamrock, Coleman vs. Takada, Herring vs. Noguiera, and on and on. Economic imperatives outweigh everything including pride or vanity. If rigged fights like this continue it will destroy MMA’s credibility just like boxing…. Oh …. almost forgot …. SAWSAN ……keep gobbling up the bread and circuses dude and maybe one day when you grow some balls you can pull your head out of the sand. Your observations are as fallible as your reasoning. WAKE UP!

Andy Says, in 4-20-2008 at 16:57:23 from

Durk… you make a good point. but its wrong. heres why: If the fight was fixed, it would mean the fighters businessmen are only interested in money. This would also mean that they’d want to make it exciting in order to further the sport and get more fans. This fight was far from exciting. Therefore my only conclusion is that it was not at all fixed.

Shaun SToffer Says, in 4-20-2008 at 16:58:22 from

Great fight!!!
Lot of people are saying that GSP took it to the groung cauz he was afraid of Serra´s hands… First off… how many people in his life has Serra knocked out, only GSP, so to say that he has ¨heavy¨ hands is out of place, he just got GSP on the right spot in the first fight(it was a ¨lucky¨ punch to my understanding).
I believe that he wanted to humiliate Serra, and what better way to do it than on the ground where his best game is(supposely).
Pounding a highly decorated brazilian jiu jitsu black belt(as everybody anounces of Serra), is a great way to show abslolute dominance.

Sawsan Says, in 4-20-2008 at 18:55:08 from

Durk (or is it Dork), you can theorize your ass off as to which fights your delusions make you believe were fixed, but the more you theorize, the less sense you make. You’ve got nothing to back up that drivel, so you’re basically talking out of your ass, lol! I’m sure fixing does happen in MMA like in many other sports, even tennis for crying out loud, but that doesn’t mean that any sore loser can automatically cry foul whenever their favorite fighter is soundly crushed by a far superior opponent like the case here. This is simply ridiculous!

Bottom line: GSP doesn’t need any laughable “fixing” to beat someone like Serra (or any other MMA fighter for that matter). If you’re having a hard time understanding that, pop a couple of smart pills and you might see the light :).

I wouldnt say “PAWNED” it was a quite lackluster performance from Serra and GSP compared to his other fights. Did Serra deserve the title? After the first fight? Yes. Did GSP deserve it after this one? Yes. The thing about being the champion of the WORLD is that you shouldnt be able to be dominated, like what happened here, and what happened to GSP in the first fight. GSP “pawned” Matt Hughes like the hillbilly he is.

Wow, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight UFC weight classes are obviously all dominated by one fighter. The only exception may be heavyweight with 2 heavyweights that are very good as the champs. They need to start bringing in fighters from other organizations that might take the title.

jack Says, in 4-20-2008 at 23:18:34 from

I dont know why everyone is dogging serra. He has a 1-1 record against the 170 lb champ. He a 155 lb fighter anyway but had to take his shot at the tv show. It was an early stoppage, which probably wouldnt have mattered, but who knows. Sera vs. Penn would be a good fight!

All of you defending GSP saying the fight wasn’t fixed are either:

A) Canadian

B) Drunk (most Canadians are anyway)

C) GSP nuthuggers

D) Working for the UFC

E) All of the above

I’ve seen the same poster on 3 different forums now defending GSP. UFC pays bloggers to sway opinion and defend their crap-ass fixed fights. The fact that Serra didn’t complain about the early stoppage proves it. Why did Serra gas in Rd.1? He has JJ how come he couldn’t fight off his back? Why did he drop his hands and take jabs to the head? How come he couldn’t stand the fight up?

I’d like to see GSP rematch Jay Hieron in a league that doesn’t blatantly rig events, then maybe I’ll give him some respect. When he fought Hughes, Matt threw is arms out and set himself up for an armbar, more crap. Koscheck my ass and a glass jawed TKO by Serra before that.

Dobber Says, in 4-21-2008 at 01:15:27 from

GREAT FIGHT! GSP dominated Serra!
I used to be a Serra fan until he began calling every opponent a prick/dick, including using that mouth of his for derogatory name calling, such as describing GSP as a “Frenchy”, which was completely unnecessary. Therefore, I am thrilled he got his ass kicked!! Serra thinks he is the be all to end all…..well guess what? You got it “all” handed to you by a series of knees to the ribs and a TKO.
Georges, you are the MAN! And well deserved champion! I know you will give the belt and title the respect it deserves. And here’s hoping you have many successful defends.

When you guys say Serra got “Domminate” I don’t think you really know how to judge a fight. GSP didn’t do any better on his feet than the first fight, secondly Serra was never in any danger of getting submitted and retook his guard many times. It looked like GSP came in with a better game plan which was use his size and stay on top. Good win but impressive… not really big guy beat the little guy…

FKU Says, in 4-21-2008 at 07:38:45 from

Early stoppage my ass, anyone who says that has never been in a fight before. Those knees were absolutely devastating. I have no doubt that Serra has some internal bleeding and/or some broken ribs. Knees like that can do some serious internal damage, especially when they are not being defended. It is the refs job to stop the fight when the fighter is in danger of being seriously injured. This is a rule and just because you want to see someone get knocked out or dragged around the ring and beatin to a bloody pulp does not mean it should not be enforced. You all saw Matt Serra after the fight he was NOT complaining it was an excellent stoppage on the refs part regardless of how much time was left on the clock.

jkdkilla Says, in 4-21-2008 at 10:13:07 from

Matt spent so much time the first 2 min of the first round looking for a sub instead of punching. I was hoping for him to win because I think he is a good fighter but St. Pierre is just way better. War George it will be a long time before he gets dethroned again.

GSP fan Says, in 4-21-2008 at 10:29:24 from

GSP is amazing! He learns so fast, and he learns from his own mistakes. That’s the true fighter attribute. He is not like many “macho” looking “I’ll screw up everyone who steps into octagon” kind of guys. Super modest, super nice guy in real life, and yet he shows no fear whatsoever when he steps into the ring. A way to go my friend, I am sure you’ll go far !

Canada ? That’s the other story… this guy is French, which should make no difference for anyone who has a bit of a brain, but it looks somehow unfair to me towards GSP. Canada (in general) didn’t even mention his huge success, maybe because he is French. That is a piece of a crap like nothing else before. I am sure if some F*** from Ontario did something like that (which will never happen BTW), it would be all over the news.

GO GSP GO !!! Every normal person in Canada should be proud of you, you are the one who makes whole Canada proudest country in the World. We sure need more people like you, you are the best example and every kid out there should follow your path. You are not just a fighter, but you are the fighter – you are a person who fights like a lion, and respects your opponents, never ever disrespecting them in public. You are what every single fighter should be. A way to go my friend !

they just wrestled the whole time
i dont see a highlight at all in this match
it was OKAY.. the second round wouldve been hot to see
but nothin impressive at all
serra looked so unprepared
those knees werent as painful as u thnk
but they were effective, thats why serra kept reversin from it

GSP fought a smart fight staying out of the punching range of Serra and absolutely destroying him on the ground. Serra looked second rate. Serra can only blame himself for the way the fight went…. I wish the Ref had not stopped so early it I would have been fantastic to see GSP in full mount and raining punches to KO Serra the dumba$$.

Just for the record for all those who criticise Matt Hughes his record speaks for itself 41-6 so including wins over GSP, BJ Penn and Gracie.

Anyway GSP vs Hughes was the sickest GSP I’ve seen, this is right up there as well, even though the fight wasn’t as exciting as the one vs Hughes, in terms of utter domination, it still shows GSP is mentally and physically very fit and ready to take on all challengers. He has the potential to stay champ for 3-4 years, he’s only 26. He has to not get lackadaisical in any part of his game and he needs to STAY hungry for those years. As long as he’s hungry to stay champ, he will indeed stay champ as long as his body allows him to.

It’s all mental, look at Arlovski, another one of my favorite fighters until he got the Tim Sylvia complex. Now he’s Andrei Silvia, Rogan said it, fighters live and die in their head. Andrei’s only 29, and still physically at the top of his game, he’s just shot mentally.

Here’s to hopin Andrei gets his head right, and here’s to hopin GSP KEEPS his head right.

IronLungz Says, in 4-21-2008 at 21:05:46 from

GSP’s game plan to a T…… if you’re unsure as to why Serra couldn’t keep his hands up in the latter portion of the fight, ask yourself, just how dominant and explosive is GSP’s ground game. This man dismantled Josh Koschek who is an incredible wrestler in his own right. Walked through Frank Trigg. Layed the smack down on Sean Sherk’s ass. And beat some dude by the name of Hughes. I do understand he’s a Canuck. But how long do the haters need to see a guy dismantle people before you think he’s legit?? St. Pierre has been dominating since he decided to throw on some gloves. He dominated a Gracie trained fighter that has some LEGIT submissions. Serra had NO answer for GSP’s intensity or his speed. St. Pierre works at a much more feverish pace than Serra. The man is a natural born athlete and as such has faster twitch. Keeping that in mind when you combine an incredible work ethic with that faster twitch and raw talent it becomes evident that sooner or later it’s gonna go off. Oh look… he’s got the belt. So to all the haters… keep drinking your haterade cuz GSP LOVES getting paid….

I think GSP will eventually be brought back to earth by a striker. The world is starting to learn: don’t let GSP get you down early or he’ll just grind you down and dominate. Josh Koscheck was a national wrestling champion and got schooled by GSP.

Good stoppage, Serra just sat there as he was eating those knees, and it did hurt him because at the end he started moving around to change positions and moving his arm down to block them. He didn’t want to though because he would eat some punches to the head. If anybody thinks those knees don’t hurt you are an idiot. A few more of those knees Serra would have broken a rib or two. I mean come on GSP was putting everything he had on those knees to Serra’s unprotected rib! Anyway, good win, Serra looked like a class B fighter in this one. But then again he was fighting GSP. And oh yeah for the retard who said it didn’t hurt Serra because Serra in the post fight interview said it didn’t hurt him, what do you expect him to say? It hurt like a bitch and start crying like a baby? He’ll say it didn’t hurt and take it like a former champion. I hate retards who post in this forum.

Bushidodan Says, in 4-22-2008 at 19:39:41 from

Congrats to GSP!!

I’d like to see him at least considered for Canadian Athlete of the Year as opposed to the figure skaters, skiers, rowers, Steve Nash and hockey players that are typically chosen. No disrespect intended… (especially to Nash) It would just go a long way to legitimize what is still a largely misunderstood sport in Canada.
Speaking as a Torontonian, I can’t believe that MMA events are still banned in Ontario. My compliments to Quebec for taking the lead and simply getting it right!! I wonder how long it will take Ontario’s Athletic Commission to catch up to the rest of the country (And planet)!!
It makes me laugh to see the all the “steriod” and “rigged fight” comments. These are obviously MMA fans that pay a great deal of attention to the sport, and yet they’re doing everything they can to bring the sport down. It really just seems like an attempt to stir the pot, or sour grapes. (I’m not sure which it is)If you believe they’re all on steroids and the fights are rigged…Don’t Watch!!
Speaking of steroids… I can’t wait to see Sherk tapping for his life against Penn. (I suppose that will be rigged too)
Say what you want about GSP and Serra, but they both win and lose with class.(something many other fighters in the sport can learn from)
With all that said, I’m glad GSP has his belt back and I hope he hangs onto it much longer this time.
I really hope he elects not to fight Silva. I’ve never been able to look at Rich Franklin the same way since his fights with Silva and can’t think of any reason why Silva wouldn’t be able to do the same to GSP. (with the exception of a Serra-like fluke knockout)I can’t picture any scenario where GSP even makes it out of the first round against Silva. Just too big, too strong, far better stand-up and much classier Jiu-jitsu. The only aspect of GSP’s game that is better than Silva is his wrestling. We’ve all seen what happens when Silva fights a “better wrestler”. (Lutter/Marquardt/Henderson and so on)

ENTIGRA Says, in 4-23-2008 at 11:18:10 from

Rigging – Roids – all part of the game. Whine Whine Whine – do you want some cheese with that?

As soon as there is any type of betting involved in sport there will always be rigging, a simple fact of life. If you not used to it by now you better start.

Drugs are once again in every sport. Cycling, Running, Boxing, Bodybuilding you name it even in Golf for f*&k sake. Get over it.

Was this particular fight rigged? – I cannot say for sure but my gut feel says defiantly not. GSP out classed a inferior opponent bottom line.

Its Anderson Silva who should step up a weight devision. Stop always asking welterweights to step up to middle weight champions.

I believe Anderson Silva should step up and fight Quinton Jackson, Wanderlei Silva or Chuck Liddell . He destroyed Rich Franklin let him prove himself just like the crap he talks about boxing Roy Jones Jr (get real). Don’t get me wrong I am a fan of Silva because of his fighting abilities but thats all.

The Main problem in UFC is the no cross promotion – if Dana White allowed it there would be better competitors out there in the same weight categories.

51450 Says, in 4-23-2008 at 16:24:17 from

Okay, just for the record. Anderson Silva was asked what he’d like to do one day, and he said he’d love to fight Roy Jones JR because he admires him and so on.

The whole thing was blown out of proportion by the fans and media. Silva’s heart is in MMA.

Osa Says, in 4-23-2008 at 16:45:13 from

For the people who said Georges did NOT dominate, what do you consider domination?

Georges walked in, and used every aspect of the sport. He scored on striking, he had beautiful takedowns, he had the best position the whole fight, Serra did not know what to expect, takedowns or strikes nor did his camp. Georges had control of the fight, meaning he dominated. Serra got him into guard, Georges escaped each time. What part did I miss that Georges did not control?

He absolutely made Serra’s win over him seem like a fluke, because Matt looked like he had absolutely no business being on the same mat as him.

Early stoppage? Matt didn’t complain. The ref said it loud and clear “Defend yourself, or I will stop it.” All Matt could do was turtle, and Georges was on the verge of breaking his ribs, which Matt is probably still pissing blood.

As for the UFC being fixed… Wow, just wow. Someone’s a GSP hater. Believe me, if it were fixed, Chuck Liddell wouldn’t of lossed his title by KO in the 1st minute, Wanderlei Silva and Chuck would of never fought, or would of been a draw cause Silva’s ego is way too big, and Dana would not put someone from PRIDE over Chuck.

I said it earlier, don’t MMA because it’s a “Cool” thing to do. Watch it because it is truly an art. To watch different fighters use different Martial Arts against each other. If your still on the whole “Fix” thing, WWE can be watched on Mondays at 9PM and also Friday nights at 8PM.

cant one say that serra was not in the right state of mind. after what i have seen from serra, he is not one to smirk or down-play the integrity of the sport which he most seriously did before the bell rang in both of those rounds. yes, serra is a squeaky voiced totally obnoxious borderline gay acting dude, but disloyal to the game and/or disrespectful he is not and never has been. he laughed in the face of st. pierre before the bell rang in both of those rounds, and I felt he laughed at the fans and UFC in those two instances, as if saying this fight is going to be too easy. Makes me think that serra took this fight the way st. pierre took their first fight. III is going to tell the truth.

Matt Serra is good but GSP is just a better fighter. Total domination from start to finish.

MMA GIANT SILVA Says, in 4-28-2008 at 02:22:35 from

I will bet my life savings, that GSP doesnt make 2 title defenses in a row

Douche Bags Says, in 4-28-2008 at 03:50:16 from

If GSP lost the fight the way Serra did all you douche bags would be whining about the early stoppage at the very end of Rd. 2 and everyone in the crowd would have been booing. But since it was in canada and the majority of mma fans have jumped on the GSP bandwagon, UFC gets away with it and the majority of the fans are happy. Domination? not when your opponent doesn’t even put up a fight. What a crock.

man idk. GSP was good and all but that 2nd round serra wasn’t out. i guess the ‘intelligent defense’ rule came into play

Matt Serra Says, in 5-2-2008 at 15:52:53 from

Thats bullshit…..Matt Serra was whooping his ass!

Brazilian Says, in 5-3-2008 at 11:06:52 from

Oh, impressive. But some people where talking about a gsp vs a silva… well, the only thing that can be bet in such a fight is in what round A. Silva would KO him, with possible choices for first or second.

SWAY Says, in 5-3-2008 at 12:50:50 from

There wil be more canadian fighters like GSP

ScHwaG Says, in 5-17-2008 at 13:20:51 from

Sky J Says, in 5-18-2008 at 21:02:50 from

F*** gsp he got lucky matt sera any other time would kick his ass like the first time

BJJ fighter Says, in 1-24-2009 at 12:06:24 from

Why do people want to see silva and goarge fight? Goarge is to small for a middle weight and silva would be to skinny as a welter weight. would be a good fight if they could maybe do a catch weight but one fighter would have a disadvantage. Good fight pierre. Thats how he should have handled the first fight against serra!

Something I think is not appreciated is that ANYONE can get knocked out. Period.

The good fighters avoid the haymakers better than most, but the potential knockout always exists when you go toe to toe.

Smart fighters take their shots when the odds are good, then retreat to strike another day. Getting in a toe to toe slugfest lowers the odds for a good fighter, even if they are better with their hands.

I think GSP realized this when a fresh Matt Serra connected–on the back of his head when he was ducking. After that, his composure was lost, and Serra hit him with more good shots.

GSP knows his conditioning is better than most and his wrestling is better than most. It makes sense for a smart fighter to use his strengths. In this case, GSP took Serra down, gassed him out and got in some good ground and pound. After that, Serra’s standup didn’t have the pop of a fresh fighter–and was much less of a threat, while GSP, due to superior conditioning, was able to keep his hands up, and show excellent standup.

GSP gassed out Fitch, Penn, and Alves in a similar fashion. Being cautious in standup in the first round, and gassing out the opponent works very well for St. Pierre, and the odds are much higher you will not be knocked out when you are on top of your opponent. Once the opponent is gassed, their standup is slower and less powerful–so standup is safer.
