Log in to Reply Alves = Riggs June 8, 2008 Matt Hughes doesn’t suck. The MMA has just evolved. Thiago and others stand on the shoulders of people like Matt Hughes. Hughes looked completly outclassed in this fight just like with GSP. He hasn’t evolved his style much at all. One thing I have to say is tha Alves looked HUGE for 174. He looks bulked up. I’m not sure if he should be in this weight class. Log in to Reply jason June 8, 2008 good for matt he’s an a-hole anyways. Log in to Reply mefninja June 8, 2008 Daaaamn… hughes got hurt bad… kinda sad since this seems to be the way hes going to leave mma… who knows though… Alves is a great fighter… Log in to Reply Brendan June 8, 2008 Get off your high horse kevin,This is an internet forum for posting comments so people will post their own opinions no matter what you think of them. Dickheads like yourself probably have never been in the cage either and are all talk on the net coz thats the only place you won’t get your arse bitchslapped back into place.I’ve never been in the “cage” but have fought in numerous competitions and I disagree with you so piss off moron. Log in to Reply jeremyemilio June 8, 2008 Okay, two things come out of this fight. First, it’s becoming painfully obvious that any MMA fighter, no matter how dominant, has only so many elite level fights in him. Ortis is evidence of that lesson, Franklin is evidence of that lesson, Liddell is evidence of that lesson, and now Hughes is learning the lesson for himself (hopefully he and his big mouthed fans are finally beginning to realize that his win over Gracie didn’t mean shit). Second, Alves is in the wrong weight class. Ankle sprain my ass. He’s bigger than he’s ever been and was much bigger than Hughes. I’m not making excuses for Hughes; I’m just saying that if Alves wants a title shot he’ll have to make a case for fighting Silva (who will destroy him) because White isn’t going to give him a chance to miss weight for a title match. Log in to Reply Fabiano June 8, 2008 I think matt knowing that Thiago is a striker made him want to beet him using Jiu-Jitsu… A Brazilian? You got to remember that Jiu Jitsu revolutionized mma in Brazil before it did the same world wide. I agree that Matt was a very good fighter but as we all know mma is evolving rapidly!!! Russians are still the best fighters “Grimthug”. We have two retards posting one posing as a fighter and another talking smack on the internet. My solution ban both people from the free web site especially the latest comment being an MMa fighter you shoujld know any promotor wants to have a family friendly show, but no one buys your 5-0 bullshit post a video with an identification of yourself lol. Talk is cheap doing MMA since 7, ive been humping your moms before she was born sweatheart. Log in to Reply Ai Guy June 9, 2008 Matt is past prime and after this fight is probably considering retirement in the near future. He should fight Serra, he’d probably get a nice purse from that fight a lot of people would still want to see it. Alves is now on a 6-0 streak, he absolutely should get a contender fight next. Oh and Kevin you’re a douchebag, get a life and stop bitching so much on here. Respond if you like (which you will), I don’t really care to reply. Log in to Reply paddedummy June 9, 2008 Matt Hughes is a wrestler, not a mma guy, this wasn’t a wrestling match. Looks like he blew out his ACL when he collapsed over his leg and it folded in half the wrong way which is worse than geting cut by a knee strike. His knee is going to keep dislocating and popping out in training/sparring unless he gets surgery and even then a joint is never the same after going under the knife. Log in to Reply doctord453 June 9, 2008 I have nothing but the utmost respect for Matt Hughes as a person and a UFC fighter. He has brought so, so much to the MMA sport over the years. But I also feel he is past his workable prime in the octagon and the caliber of fighters is so much different now then when he first started fighting. I hope he wasn’t badly injured in this bout, but I think he should give this sport a rest while he can still get out alive. Awesome knee by Alves, and I don’t want to sound like I am taking anything away from his great performance. God I love this sport! Talk is cheap doing MMA since 7, ive been humping your moms before she was born sweatheart.” i need to justify myself on an internet website(my videos are on my myspace) where no one knows my real name or anything of the sort? now things have to be PROVEN over the INTERNET? tell that to guys who meet up with little girls, then i will validate myself to a bunch of nobodies on an internet forum. i know what i’ve done, and the point of posting what i said was in response to someone firing back that i hadn’t been in the cage when i clearly had by the argument i was making(why would i go off on a rant about something that wasn’t true in regards to something that is ON this forum? kinda a waste of time don’t you think?). but you see that is the thing…talk IS cheap over the internet, especially with immature comments to some random guy over the internet in regards to banging someone’s mom since “you were born sweetheart” which is coming from someone i can bet would never get in a cage in the first place. the internet makes people feel cool or tough when they hide behind the internet as a way to talk shit because the thought of them taking a punch, knee, or elbow is just something they couldn’t handle. ::smiles:: and any promoter in the NJ area isn’t going to know who i am or be upset with what i have to say when a bunch of idiots who are not properly understanding what i say to get me pissed off(in regards to who should fight who and get title shots) if my real name and credentials are not on here. kids. funny. Log in to Reply mefninja June 9, 2008 matt hughes win over gracie doesnt mean shit.. why?? cause gracie sucks alves could be the future of 170.. but right now.. GSP>Alves>fitch i think alves could take fitch out.. KO in the second round Log in to Reply Chris June 9, 2008 thanks MMATKO it was pleasure to see this ihope matt will stand up with serra and i think he was fighting for breath as alves gave him a knee just on the start of 2nd round -that was the reason he invited alves to guard..the rest was just awsome finish by alves.. Log in to Reply Jason June 9, 2008 Man Hughes doesn’t even train anymore! He’s only fighting because Dana asks him to fill in! In fact Hughes never did the long term training the current fighters do, if he did he’d be a fricken contender again! Look at his eye when he walked into the 2ns Pierre fight, he was already beaten before he stepped in the ring! He always said his worse fear was to walk in the ring unprepared and that is what he has been doing in only because he is not going to say no when he is asked to fill in a broken card. Log in to Reply zamman June 11, 2008 That was a great fight! Kudos to Thiago! If Hughes does not learn how to strike his career is over. I think he still has it potenial. Log in to Reply MMAGiantSilva June 11, 2008 Kevin writing a lot but still aint saying nothing lol. Humping since 1997 i guess cant be much older then 11. lol Log in to Reply Butterbean June 13, 2008 Let’s review. Alves did not make weight. I will say it again. The dumb ass did not make weight. There is a reason you have to make weight. Had he been the right weight he would have been dehydrated and weak. How very nice it must be to not make weight and have the fight considered to be legit. It was a farce. P.S. Hughes is done. Log in to Reply IgnoranceMakesYaStupid June 14, 2008 did you also know that Alves Sprained his ankle and couldnt walk on it at all 10 days prior to the fight? so dumb ass I dont know.. the guy is in good shape and has never missed weight before.. Matt hughes could of said no aswell it was his choice BUTTERBEAN dont be so god damn ignorant.. he just didnt NOT make weight because he was lazy… and it IS legit or it wouldnt have been sanctioned MORON.. seriously consider thinking about what your writing or you will hear about it from other ppl… Log in to Reply perc ycanfly June 19, 2008 hm.. i was a fan of hughes, but after seeing him get taken apart by GSP an now Alves, i think its time he hungs up the gloves. He can be quite be quite agile, an timmed. An i think thats what cost him the match overall. He shot in to soon, didn’t work the jab efficent enough. This spost has grown to much to just stick to the basic ground an pound routine. He needs a more protective stand up, an a more willing jab. He fakes to much an its what cost him overall.. good luck hughes. Log in to Reply finerR July 25, 2008 dam guys nice fight but thiago looked confident and demonstrated it. Log in to Reply firemanmma October 24, 2008 Thiago Alves will KO GSP. WATCH and LEARN. Alves will be the next Welter Weight Champ and he will hold the belt for a very long time. This kid is young and keeps dramatically improving. That is if he can keep off the juice of course.. LOL He has gotten twice as big since his suspension. Bottom line, even if he isn’t/wasn’t juicing; he has always been a great fighter and is always improving. Thiago Alves will KO JK and take out GSP shortly. Log in to Reply KOTCfighter January 7, 2009 The reason Alves had trouble making weight is because he relies alot on cutting water weight. My trainer Vic (Valimaki) once made weight cutting from 237 to weight in at 205. Iv herd that thiago in between fights walks around at close to 200 pounds and something tells me its not fat. When cutting that much weight you run into a roadblock. Theirs a point right around 20 pounds more or less. where your body stops sweating. It seems like you cant sweat anymore. In this case you have to shock your system by taking a cold shower or better jumping in an ice bath and then straight back to the sauna. Then you start sweating again. Theirs nothing easy about cutting weight it sucks. Log in to Reply iron mike January 30, 2009 matt huges isn’t the best welterweight of all times as he has been taughted to be,that’s pretty clear at this point.i think its damn funny, when he gets his ass kicked, which seems to be almost every time he gets in the ring.alves didn’t show me that much of a skill set either.you wait and see what happens if and when he climbs into the cage with gsp.he’s going to say ya’ll quit.to adress the weight issue,he had plenty of time to make weight.it’s not like this fight was thrown at him in a weeks notice.i lost 4lbs. in twenty min. before.note to self, don’t blow up to 220 in between fights or fight at 205. because if he fights at 185 he will get destroyed by the likes of anderson silva bet that bitches!!!!! Log in to Reply CBrien January 31, 2009 These comments are a bit stupid. He isn’t good against strikers? He got caught with a knee out of no where! You can’t prepare for something like that. Log in to Reply kRiS-tYaHn March 26, 2009 FIREmanMMA: LOL LMFAO I hope alves fights a hell of alot better VS GSP……. let me clear that up, Alves better pray he fights 100X better than what he did VS Hughes, how long do u think it will take 4 GSP 2 finish Alves if Alves gets takin 2 the ground by GSP?!? Hughes held Alves down for about 3.5 – 4 mins in the 1st round. Alves has no ground game whatsoever, I couldnt believe it & this is the 2nd time I watched the fight. I didnt think Hughes had him on his back that long. Anyway Alves will do no better than Fitch of Penn, that I can promiss u, especially if Alves comes in out of shape b/c of the whole weight cutting, even if hes in shape look what Hughes was able 2 do…. hold a much bigger & way stronger younger man on the ground 4 that long & hughes is terrible on the ground compared to most fighters these days, I can only imagine if GSP gets Alves on the ground 1st round & side control twice like Hughes was able to, then u might as well re-take ur statement about Alves being WW champ 4 a long time, ur an idiot just 4 assuming GSP is going 2 lose after that performance, WOW u must be a dreamer dude, b/c in real life that Alves VS a GSP @ 75% will destroy that Alves who just fought Hughes. Everyone keeps saying this is GSP’s best challenge with Fitch & what happened?!? GSP spanked him for 25 mins in what was suppose 2 B GSP’s toughest test 2 date…. NEXT!!!! BJ Penn the new & improved with amazing cardio @ 155lbs, let me say that again @ 155lbs. “OHHH O GSP is in 4 a battle & BJ will be the new WW champ” blah blah blah what happened?!? Ohhh ya GSP owned BJ & made him quit from the beating he took, noone has EVER, EVER beatin BJ up the way GSP did & he took barely any damage AGAIN, yet he TKO’d “the prodigy” the best P4P fighter in the world, according 2 BJ & his fans….. more dreamers like FiremanMMA. BJ has the “best:” guard in all of MMA on the planet & GSP made him look like a white belt, he schooled a BJJ black belt world champion @ his own game. Ya GSP sure is in trouble….. cough cough wink wink!!! Alves better improve ten fold or hes just going 2 b another GSP victim. U talk about alves getting better lol, too bad the guy whos getting 10X better each fight is GSP & its so noticeable, from Serra 2, GSP was amazing, then 4 months later VS Fitch GSP was so sick he made the 2nd best WW in the world look so out of place I felt bad 4 Fitch, but tough ****er. Then 5 months later VS BJ his toughest TEST blah blah…… & GSP looked like a machine, the GSP VS BJ was 100X better than the GSP VS Fitch & thats almost enough to make u want to change weight class up or down, I’d choose down now after the beating BJ took lol I loved it. “2 the death Georges & I’m going 2 try & kill you & I’m not joking about that” hahahahah to the HOSPITAL was the only place u were going BJ hahahaha that lil blob of vaseline made me lose the fight hahahaha OMG so pathetic & then BJ brings his mom 2 the hearing 2 speak 2 the commission, WOW thats sooo funny, how can u respect an ass clown like that?!? lil bitch ass quitter. Cant wait 2 C Florian pound BJ. **** FireMANmma I am going 2 keep this site & write you after GSP beats Alves & let me know what u thought of the ass beating ur “BRA” is going 2 get from GSP, the best P4P fighter in the world after his fight VS BJ!!!! **** Oh u should all go check out the fight between Alves VS Fitch lol Since Fitch only lost 1 fight in the UFC & his 1st loss in august of 08 was his 1st loss in 5 or 6 years, I’ll let u figure out who won that fight between Alves & Fitch, & I can tell u it didnt go to decision ahahahahah Alves beat GSP LMFAO! Log in to Reply kRiS-tYaHn March 26, 2009 TO KEVIN: Alves did sprain his foot a few days b4 the fight….. “A FEW DAYS” not a month or even a week, he was trying to shed weight for the past week & a half & he still weighed 4lbs over weight. U dont leave ur weight to chance a couple of days b4 the fight U need to jsut lose a couple of lbs a day or two b4 the fight. Alves was losing weight up until his last weigh in & still over 4 lbs, thats stupid & very unprofessional. Lost half of his money to Hughes, the guy he beat won way more $$$$$ than Alves, lol thats funny!!! Log in to Reply sergei June 19, 2009 it was long time since I have seen somebody PULLING guard on UFC. Matt must have been with flu or something Log in to Reply GSP- fan June 20, 2009 Matt got dominated, plain and simple. I’m not going to pretend I know exactly why matt got dominated, just that he did. If I had to guess its that he was too busy worrying about keeping Thiago down he didn’t think to try to hurt him. Oh, and wrestlers do not do to well against guys that are bigger, stronger, younger, more explosive…Thiago, GSP, Matt needs to analyze himself and pick his fights on guys that gives his style of fighting an advantage. Log in to Reply Mr Right July 5, 2009 Judging by this fight I will say with absolute certainty that GSP is going to demolish Thiago. Lights out for you thiago.
