Fighters that go in having beef with each other always seem to “squash” it after the fight… but doesn’t that make for a less anticipated rematch? I mean Matt Hughes is older and probably doesn’t want to fight too many more times, but I honesly don’t even care to see Sera vs. Hughes II. I gotta say though, Sera was really humbled in defeat. I kinda feel bad for the guy, he was so close to knocking out Hughes in the first, and I think he would have had a better chance in a 5 round fight. Makes me wish all fights in the UFC were slated for 5 rounds.

I thought serra won this fight, he may have been on his back but he was alyas attacking with his guard, always agresive on his feet, he got the only real knock down of the fight and he pushed the pace and got the take down and control at the end, it was a hard fight to call but it looked like the judges where playing to the crowed rather than watching the fight. and in my opinion serra has always been a humbel, he put on alot of attitude to promote this fight but he has always a more humble fighter than hughes!!!

I know that serra beat GSP but I still think hughes didnt look that sharp. I is hard to watch some of these big name guy struggle in the ufc franklin, chuck etc.

Both are classy in the aftermath, but I still saw Serra winning rounds 1 and 3. Far too much weight is placed on takedowns and top control. They’re only valuable if a) you do something with them, and b) if the guy on the bottom does absolutely nothing. I thought Serra was much more active from the bottom in round three and mounted some offense of his own at the end.

Saundomma, I agree that Sera did more damage overall, but that doesn’t account for Hughes controlling the 2nd two rounds. Yeah Sera got the take down and landed some shots in the last 20 seconds, but it was too little too late. 29-28 Hughes was my card too. Although I am suprised that it was unanimous. I figured Hughes would’ve been awarded the split.

Serra is a joke…bahahahahahaha

Slow motion in the first round when matt went down …Serra even missed hitting matt.

Faber can move up in weight and he’ll beat Serra hands down..

Serra can rub Vaseline all over his body and he’ll still LOSE.

Though it was a back and forth fight I think these guys are about being done. Serra didn’t show the aggression he had before. HE was more reserved, and I think that’s what separates their beef from tito and shamrock. Shamrock was thinking too much about losing to his rival so he didn’t formulate a good plan. While Tito just went out and kicked his ass. both Hughes and Serra just thought too much about losing. Serra at the end realized by playing it safe the third ran he turned up the heat.

Can’t really fault Serra’s gameplan. He was trying to use enough offense without exposing himself to a takedown. Hughes did what Hughes does, go to his bread and butter and hope he can control the guy from the top. Sure, he’s less athletic than he used to be, but I think the athletes in this sport have just passed him by. His game has not evolved.

Faber could beat most 155 pounders.
