Matt Brown vs. Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson Fight Video UFC 145 Prelim.
“muay thai beats karate”than gets picked apart and has.to take it to the ground.as a proud 3rd dan in tkd and a karate fan I always said the more tkd and katate elite fighters come to mma the more wheel kick kos and front kicks to the face,jumping off the fence roundhouse kicks etc youll see.love the side kicks too.hate wreslting and bjj
Contrasting styles
exactly what i thought would happen. brown is too hard to finish
Thompson is not a wonderboy after all! Brown beat him up caveman style.
It’s obvious you can’t really be a world champ kickboxer and have some great grappling at that age.I thought he would have a better ground game then that though.
Good fight.
Good to see Wonder Bra taken down a peg or two also.
Wow… Matt brown
@Tkdko
Yeah you hate wrestling and BJj because karate or tkd only will always lose to wrestling or BJJ.
Tkdko
if you dont like bjj go watch k-1 and stop wine’n about your boy gettin beat up by brown town
@TKDKO
you like watching those fancy Karate and TKD kicks,best get used to only seeing in the first round and against guys that are not top strikers.Cause as you can see in this fight you will get beat by CAVEMAN stylie
Damn he had Matt Brown a couple of times though with those strikes that had him running away in pain..needs tighter punching so people wont escape them like Matt did. And needs to work on his takedown defense. He tripped over Matt’s leg at one time toward the end and Matt didnt even do it intentionally.
Well, leaving all the b.s. to the side, two things are clear from this:
1- Wonderboy still depends too much on his kicks. Once his legs were shot, he couldn’t do much. Kudos to Brown for his game plan, but his muy thai would have gotten him KOed in the first. Good thing he has a ground game;
2- Brown is a very good and tough fighter, but he is reaching his peak. If Thompson starts training MMA more seriously, his legs will become more resilient to the ground game and he will be able to use them after the first round. With lots of wrestling, he will become a much better fighter than Brown in a couple of years.
Losing will make Thompson take his wrestling training more seriously.
Wow.. either im crazy or that was a bad call.. i seen Wonderboy winning that fight both 2 and 3 round.. Im sorry but wonderboy stalked him down both rounds and killed him in striking.. wobbling matt brown both rounds.. it was only at the last 20 sec in the second that mat took him to the mat and landed a weak little elbow that cut him,, big deal,, i still give thompson that round.. then in third thompson was whooping him on his feet again then matt takes him down and lays on him for over 2 minutes not doing really much damage.. sorry i give that win to Thompson. Not only that but that was a great fight for wonderboy no matter what. He learned soo much from that fight. now its time to work on his bjj and TDD
You know they really made this fight in hopes it would showcase Wonderboy’s potential; however, it looks like the plan backfired. Still has alot of room left to grow and evolve his game, but this fight was good. I had it in my mind that UFC was giving this fight to brown to me made a example out of and really boost Thompson in the top ten.
Perfect example of a pre-hype train that gets derailed early on.
this is a response to pitbull – Can you honestly say you think Stephen Thompson won that fight against Matt Browne.? if you can – then you are a complete noob and fool when it comes to MMA. Takedowns are graded higher than strikes. Matt Brown dominated each round when he got to the ground. yeah both were exhausted and Matt wobbled. But Stephen Didnt take advantage of that… he needed some kicks to the face to finish the fight. But he couldnt because his legs were jello. He needs a new gym to train at… strictly on ground game. He already a master striker. Its time to change gyms.
@pitbull1779, i don’t know what fight you watched dude. in the second, thompson got dropped and was in a terrible position for the last minute! the third round was more of the same. if thompson wants to be as great in mma as he was in kickboxing, he NEEDS to develop some sort of ground game.
