did yves ever fuck that fight up…shouldn’t have jumped in so quick, but once he jumped in that should have been it. Horrible job done on his part.

Good quick KO though. Brown showed a lot of different styles of attacks in the first few seconds and just overwhelmed Pete Sell.

wow, first time in a long time that I’ve seen a late stoppage! i don’t blame Matt for being pissed b/c the referee gave Pete a few seconds to recover when he was about to call the fight. poor refereeing in this one.

what is the deal with the ref? i was amazed by how long it took. i think both fighters were. koscheck was hurt just as bad in his fight and it was stopped immediately. brown really beat him down though. impressive.

I don’t mind what the ref did. At least we know that Brown was done. Nothing worse than an early stoppage…unless your the guy getting pounded.

yeah, i mean maybe that half stoppage was a little sketchy, but if the ref had stopped it right away i’ll bet you guys would all be bitching to high heaven about it.

ya lol he wanted to stop it, but a split second later changed his mind….He shoulda just followed through..it was over anyway, and could have prevented more needless damage on Pete, which IS what happened

This just further convinces me the Yves is the best ref in MMA. If that was mazagotti or anyone else, that fight would have been stopped after 30 seconds, even though Sell was still in it. Yves is the only ref that gives the fighter taking punishment, a chance. He is the best ref.

I saw this in a bar and the whole place was laughing!! It was like a high school fight where a kid stops it and then the bully says is he done and then runs over and beats the kid down worse. I loved it

matt brown is unreal on the feat! he put on an absolute clinic on the drago. i think the refereeing thing has been said enough they need big john reffing more matches. I heard he was coming back I think i saw him ref a few, anybody know if hes back for good or not?

Horrible reffing. You call Brown off then decide to change your mind after? That was a terrible. Say what you want about the other refs who have called fights a little early, I’ve never seen any of them do that. As it turned out, Sell could of been spared a further beating as he was cleary out on his feet. If Brown fights like this in the future, I’ll look forward to seeing him again.

i completely agree that Yves does better then any other ref for ufc, other then big john, and that to hold this against him is silly, but after he decided not to stop the fight after stopping the fight, he let sell get beat down about 45 seconds longer then necessary.. he let him back up, and brown pretty much laid him right back out, and yet… yves didnt stop it then, he let sell get the shit kicked out of him, he couldnt even keep his hand or his head up… this was brutal and wrong.

If he is anything like Big John he watches tapes on both fighrers and I know he has ref for some of Pete’s fights in the past. Big John himself says he takes into account the type of fighter out there which may have been a factor here–Pete has been able to bounce back and he is tuff as hell, think about the fight with Scott Smith–could you imagine that legendary fight being cut short? He was dazed but fighters can shake cobwebs off and come back. Yves is a good ref. If he saw something out there then he saw it and let it go which he did.

This is exactly what happens. Right here. Fights get stopped early and people are up n arms about it. The ref lets the fight go on and people are up in arms over the fight not being stopped. You people want results from all your belly aching? Well, there you got it. Fans screaming for later stops in fights got that guy a nice concussion. Hope you are all happy. Sell is a tough SOB to take an ass whoppin like that. That ref needs to fired for that fight, Big John would have never let that fight go on. The priority should be fighters safety. No diss to Brown he did his job and knew the fight should have been stopped

Can’t stop until the ref stops you…. twice…? I liked Yves as a ref because he would let fights go, but that was rediculous.. not sure if the commision told him to let fights go, then told him he was letting them go on too long… but his game is F’d up. Big John #1 – Herb Dean – Mario Yamasaki #2. Lavigne – mazagati = Garbage.
