Mark Hunt vs Junior dos Santos Fight Set To Co-Main UFC 160

Just a day after UFC president Dana White said Hunt turned down a fight against Junior dos Santos at UFC 160, the Kiwi got the fight he wanted following a phone conversation with White Thursday night.

Mark Hunt will now face dos Santos on May 25 in Las Vegas. White confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com Saturday morning.

“When contacted by MMAFighting.com, an ecstatic Hunt called the opportunity “my title shot.” Hunt, who denied ever directly turning down the opportunity, was pleased with the outcome of the call, as was White. They would not discuss exactly what they spoke about.”

Hunt (9-7) enters the bout on a four-fight winning streak with a knockout of Stefan Struve last Saturday night, while dos Santos (15-2) is coming off a heavyweight title beating from the hands of Cain Velasquez in December.

UFC 160, headlined by Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva 2, will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Hunt vs. dos Santos will serve as the co-main event.

I’m not suprised at all Dana lied about Hunt.He never wanted that fight to happen so he lied about Hunt refusing to fight.But Hunt’s twitter army harassed Dana until he made the fight.

For some reason, a lot of you idiots seem to think Hunt is slow. Go watch one of his fights and see how quickly he throws his counters. Tools. The guy is remarkably fast, period, but particularly for a person built as stockily as himself.

YES. Hunt sure has turned his career around. I am a huge fan of both guys but I gotta root for the underdog in this one. People underestimate hunt bc he is short and got alot of excess fat but he is still a great striker with really good timeing. I would not be suprised if jds mixes in some takedowns and tries to sub hunt. If it stays on the feet it will be interesting. I think jds speed will pose a big problem and he will outland hunt by a a good amount but hunt will probably land some hard counters and hits just as hard as anybody in the ufc so we will see

Totally agree with ya Hunt has some quick counters and I think the whole cain pillow hands started some after the kongo fight but mainly after the ben rothwell fight. Ben rothwell has a freakin granite chin and was taking all of cains punches and did not even care but that does not mean cain has pillow hands lol. Rothwell walked right into an overhand right from mark hunt and it did not even phase him!!!!

this is a great opportunity for HUNTs career.. I like both guys a lot. but I can’t see Hunt winning this. true that every fighter have a chance but JDS is surely faster than him and more technical.

JDS might be faster but I highly doubt he’s more technical then an ex K-1 fighter who used his hand 80% of the time in kickboxing.JDS is good but he got dropped by Cain standing up.Cain hits hard and is good technically but nothing close to Hunt.

The only thing we do know is the Hunt won’t get knocked out.

I saw him get full on head kicked by Duke Rufus (or Ray Sefo or some other monster) and act like it never happened.

I think this might be a rare occasion for JDS to take it to the ground.

I’ve been a fan of Hunt since Pride, but I don’t see him winning this fight. I hope he really takes it seriously and uses the next few months to get his conditioning into top shape. At least this fight will stay standing and Hunt may have a chance if he slows JDS down with leg kicks.
