what a brick head this thompson, he took some hits.
You can see exactly when Mariuz loses this fight: when Thompson realizes that his punches lost all power and he just lets Pudz exhaust himself trying to knock him out. You can see in the close up on Pudz’s eyes that he just can’t believe that he threw his best shots to Thompson’s unprotected chin and nothing happened.
Pudz needs to train with some serious HWs to get anywhere in MMA. He needs to improve his fighting-specific cardio and that will only happens if he fights people who are bigger and better than him for hours a day.
He got zombied by Pudz in the middle of the first, for a second I thought Thompson was out on his feet…
If Pudz is gonna take this serious, he needs to shed all that body builder weight and put back on athletic muscle…I mean s***, they had a 2 minute break between rounds and he still couldn’t get any gas back.
Unfortunately, Pudz is wasting his time. He spent his whole life training for Strongman competitions–where you go balls out for 3 minutes and then rest an hour in a tent. So if he can’t finish a fight in the first round he’s gassed until the next day.
If he’s going to continue, he’s best served to fight smaller cans with no experience. He’s never going to beat anyone with even a modicum of name recognition.
Blew his wad in round 1, it’s the shane carwin effect. You get 1 round and that’s it with those pumped up muscleheads.
This was actually a very entertaining fight. The music was interesting as well.
It takes one HELL of a can to make Thompson look good. He’s yet to face that can. I wonder who it was that told either of these guys that it was good idea to start a pro mma career.
Bruno with the Photoshop for the win.
I also like the MMATKO neon sign!
Just seems like they are sparring.â™
Props to Thompson for taking those huge punches and not getting KOed, took the smart choice, take him to the ground and submit that gassed beast
Wait…was that Cawin vs. Lesnar? Except slower and less talented.
Crazy De Ja Vu
HAHA, WHAT AN ALLTIMER!! Fight of the century! Favorite part was when Pudz layed on the ground and Thompson mounted him with no resistance whatsoever. GRAPPLING CLINIC. Thompson stood there taking punches like he was watching the sunset or something.
Great 1st rd actually. Surprised Pudzian lasted that long. He’s known for horrible cardio. When I heard him talking in the interview before the fight that he came back to his “natural” weight I knew he gonna gas badly. Sub was crap, Pudzian just don’t have a heart to fight.
Remember Thompson kicked Kimbo’s a$$ before his ear popped. Seen a lot of good things out of Pud for so early in his career. It’s too bad he didn’t have more time to develop his game and ride the tough road. He would be insanely marketable and is entertaining to watch
Man his strategy is not suited for his body type. Its not just cardio. He needs to learn wrestling and take people down, let them carry his weight. Learn JJ and GNP. Not stand there and try to throw awkward punches that gas him out. Maybe in 3 years when he develops some technique to knock people out. But right now he has to take people down and control them Lesnar style
at 1:20 you can already see Pudz is becoming purple thats pretty odd i’ve seen fat out of shape guy’s get red way slower then him.Maybe his strongman “supplements” didnt really help his cardio. You cant hate the guy he’s trying out a tough sport and he’s using his world champion title in strongman to get big named fights(even if they arent top notch guys). But you can clearly see he has very low level of technic in every area. His monster strenghts hels alot but right in the begining you see his side control is wrong. He lets Thompson get his arm between him and Pudz hips.I still like the guy i donmt know how many years he is training but it takes balls to compete with high level guys when you are a still a beginner in the sport
That was my first Pudz fight, and I gotta say, I was expecting much worse.
If Pudz had grown up as a fighter, and not overloaded his body with muscle, he might’ve been great. I see a lot of potential there.
I also see a man who has no cardio, and is too old to fix that now. Too bad.
Fun fight to watch. Thanks, Bruno.
Im amazed how pudzianowski is in MMA for some time now, and he doesnt learned nothing about ground fight, his side control sucks, he doesnt now how to pull half guard to avoid side control, and once thompson was in side control, he left door open for a mount. I also think this huge amount of muscle is making him tired really quick.
If someone near to mariusz read this to help him improve or maybe better to retire from MMA if he doesnt want to change his training….
WTF was that 2:15 min break between rounds ? I thought they were gonna wipe the floor all night.
Pudz has fast hand thats for sure!
mm well, he looks good in the first round, he has improved a lot, but at the end, he still has no heart, and no cardio. that said he needs to start all over, from his boxing, to his take downs, has to work defense from his back, needs to trains more cardio, and this is sparring with bigger guys than him, for hours, if he wants to stay at his natural weight, if not then start losing some muscle instaid of loosing fights, if pudz was to take this for reals, i mean an mma career he would do very good, the guy is determined and i know from his world strongest man tournaments that he hates to loose, and when he does his comes backs better, and he should do the same here and he has, i mean he has improved but not enough so i dont think he is taking his mma career for reals, he either stays liftings cars, or starts to change his training camp. a lot of money to be made in mma, he got the name, he needs the talent and would be a big star in the mma bussiness, im sure with the right training he would be a good prospect for ufc, and dont get me wrong, not now, he has a lot to improve but his name sales, he would sale a lot of pay per views in the ufc. so for the fans, and for him self he should take this serious and start the right way, if not then quit and stop embarresing your self like that, thompson is an irrelevant fighter……………
props to pud,
although not the best, thompson is a brawler that likes to fight, and hes had more then a few battles, not an easy man to beat in a fight.
pud did well imo.
Thompson…..gameplan?….submission win = I like
If mariusz focused more on his strength training he could have won this fight haha. Sad he couldnt knock out thompson with like 4 flush shots. And that submission that he tapped to was pathetic…barely a white belt level arm triangle…he didnt even really have it locked in.
Much props to Pudzian, he really improved from his previous fights! Shocked me… Needs much more work, but at least we saw a major improvement!
I think you could make the case that MP knocked Thompson out and woke him up with that punch combo you see in the replay from 7:05 to 7:08. When it happened during the fight i thought that he was just taunting MP as if he had no punching power but after the replay unless Thompson just has the googley eye a la Rich Franklin when he gets tired in a fight, it looks like Thompson took a right (7:05) a left, a right, a left, (KO) another right, (lights on Oh s*** left hands coming again) Dodges left tries takedown(7:08)
Mariusz is the same like Carwin. With just one round of oxigen, you can’t compete in mma. He has a different kind of muscles as a bodybuilder. Ha has to carry a way too much muscleweigt. There’s no cardio. And that is just a basis for mma, not to mention mma knowledge.
that was some of the sloppiest MMA I have seen in a long time.
nice submission
I knew Thompson would win. More experienced and more gas in the tank..
THOMPSON is BACK! He’s a hero! He got his head punch in then submitted the guy… you gotta love the Thompson!!
Thanks for the vid Bruno.
hes never going to be a grate fighter hes go no skill or tactics and his body is setup for max power events that he can dominate with his overpowering ability,
The guy is already 34 and any possibility of him becoming a force in mma is long since past lets face it hes no randy couture and the only reson hes getting any real coverage is because in poland he is like the second coming.
Not technical fight but good god was it entertaining. Better then 70% of lay and pray UFC style.
We aren’t looking at any top 10 fighters, but it was fun watching. I thought Mariusz improved and did what almost anyone would do in his position, punch yourself out when someone drops their hands and looks tired. Why shouldn’t he keep fighting B level fighters. I’m a little intrigued by the progress.
best fight ever…
james is ready for ufc man!!!!
great iron chin, perfect bjj , his ready for cain
go colossus go
i thought this was supposed to be an MMA fight not WWE?.
..and not a single ‘thunder kick’ was thrown that day!
Did anyone noticed how he didnt anchor his punches. Pudz needs to take Boxing 101.
Bah, this was actually entertaining… But no tactics or game plan here.
See what changing training camps to someone that cares for James and gets him a game plan??? instead of retirement he has come away with 1 of his biggest wins to date so well done James on a great fight and awesome heart. Also a massive well done to Olympians MMA for orchastrating the game plan and the W for James
@Pope
Are you joking about the strenght training?Thats what made him loose the fight. His frame is not made for HW he should be in LHW because you can clearly see a guy this height with that much muscles gasses in 2 minutes. He couldnt knock him out because of his lack of technic in boxing.Thats just to prove that even if you put thousands of hours lifting weights you wont punch that much harder.Technic makes 90% of the power in striking not muscles or the hardest punchers would be Pudz and Brock and you can clearly see its not the case.
In my opinion (and agreeing with most here)
pudza defeated himself coming in with huge size (not functional in my opinion), and awful cardio/endurance
He’d whoop mine , and probably most of the people commenting’s asses anyways. Still, training for one sport, and attempting to jump into one thats totally different still commands my respect.
Sick photoshop, Bruno!
Great fight
whoever thinks these guys are skilled mixed martial artists please kill your self. thank you.
@ ruttenjump
Of course i was joking. Thats why I said haha right after. You act as if no one here knows anything. Of course strength doesnt have much to do with boxing power. I can hit harder than my 230 pound friend when I only weigh 155 because I have some striking training. Its all about functional muscle, speed, and technique.
The fight was actually pretty exciting, or at least the first round. The camera angle at the end sucked!!! Could see if he was in mount or half or full guard, or the tap for that matter. I did like the enthusiasm of the crowd though! Wish that we had something like that for some of the UFC fights.
“when white belts collide”
nice fight though.
thopson is MASSIVE !
that was some intense music .
bruno i like your logos you add in the pics , you used this once before i loved it then too
Mariusz was so successful as strong man and put on so much siz, he rents out his back as a billboard.
My hats off to the guy. To be truly great at one thing and then decide your going to do something completely different takes big ballzzz. He’s not the least bit afraid to look like stupid and take risks.
I’d rather watch him go at it, with no technique at all, than watch Jon Fitch, who has all the skill in the world but takes no chances.
Man, for a strongman champion he doesn’t have much power behind those punches. Thompson isn’t exactly known for his iron chin, and he looked flabby as hell going into this fight. God only knows how bad Pudz would have looked if he were up an in shape Thomspon. Pudz isn’t getting any younger, maybe this isn’t sport for him.
I didn’t see anything in this fight. Marius doesn’t know what to do on the ground, he’s swinging in the stand up. On top of that it was the worst Thompson I’ve ever seen – he seemed to be unable to throw a punch properly, his left hook was a joke. Waste of my time overall
mariusz.. shame of poland..
Am I the only one that sees mariusz improving. Yes he was arm punching, but he did keep his punches more in the box rather than the wild haymakers I’m used to seeing (of course I’m relatively speaking). Two things are obvious: 1. He is getting better, 2. He’ll never be great.
Strong lifter against fighter ? The odds will always be 90 to 10.
how would you shed a lifetime of bodybuilding muscle? ingest a family of tapeworms and eat 58 small meals a day?
Thompson is usually in much better shape for a fight, i don’t think Thompson took Pudz seriously.
Pudz is a great strongman but a horrible fighter…I even think Bob Sapp would destroy him
look at how many comments this irrelevant MMA match received. Very relevant lower weight class bouts hardly receive this kind of attention.
