You don’t see very many fights end on a disqualification but it happened on this night. You might have been able to knee a downed opponent in Pride FC but not in the UFC. I was very disappointed because this could have been one of the better fights.

“Steve mazzagatti For President!!!” - are you joking? He left Irvin unattended for minutes despite his obvious serious distress, and only stopped the fight under pressure from the doctor. Mazzagatti shouldn’t be in the cage - time and again he has shown he does not have the level of concern for fighters’ welfare that the position demands.

irvin has poor wrestling, bad sub defence, and to top it off, a bad attitude. i dont know why hes still in the ufc; his wins have come from a ko of terry martin after he was getting owned in the first round, a tko of hector ramirez after getting owned for much of the fight and now a DQ win. the guy has a good chin and ko power but does not deserve the amount of promotion and favortism from the ufc that he gets. the real loser here is the fans who have to see irvin, a marginal figher fight again in the octagon, possibly on a main card.

Has anyone found it very weird that the UFC lists different heights for the same fighter every other time. I mean a significant difference. They had Anderson Silva listed at 5′11″ in the Travis Lutter fight and on the UFC site, it has him listed as 6′2″. I can compile a list of countless other fighters where their height has fluctuated from fight to fight. Am I the only one that notices this?

I’ll still watch the UFC since there really isn’t anything else out there, until M-1 starts having it’s PPV. The no name fight in pride were a whole lot better than the no name fight in the UFC, so M-1 probably will be better than the UFC.

From my opinion, that was definitely a DQ. Irvin deserved the win, well because he simply got injured by a illegal strike. End of story. By the way, that was a strong knee to the head, and I’m pretty sure some of you would look that way after getting kneed to the head.

I don’t see what the problem is. The knee was down, you wait til he gets back up to hit him. I don’t care if Irvin was barely touched or whether it really rocked him (he had a fucking concussion), the strike was illegal.
And for those who say he was pussing out - watch the fight again. Cane got rocked by several strikes from Irvin. I’d have called the stand-up even up til then.
The people who criticize rules that protect fighters are wastes of life. If you want a gladiator fight, go walk the streets of any major city, you’ll find a no-rules fight in progress sooner or later. If you want to keep seeing good fighters come back to fight again, they’ve got to have some protection against unnecessary bullshit. Not a single one of you would say shit about those rules if you were fighters and had to face the consequences if they weren’t there.
How’s going blind for the rest of your life sound? Strikes to the back of the head can damage both the occipital lobe of your brain(responsible for sight) and the brain stem. Knees to the face of a stationary and downed opponent can destroy the orbital bones, which can potentially permanently blind a fighter in one eye. The rules exist for a good reason and I personally think they’re a great thing.
But no, some of you would rather see a man crippled for life for your amusement. Grow up.

what s the difference between a knee on the ground and a knee standing , the level of damage is the same and would even says that a knee to the head in a clinch situation is much more dangerous. And you can broke the eye socket orbital bone or whatever standing or in the ground , you can see that in the fight bob sapp vs crocop . Sandman would have taken that fight if not for dirty-antics. James trains with the best, and you can see by his body that he does not take this game lightly. He has this in his heart and given a fair fight he can hold his own! Also rules have to be followed to allow fairness///we are not living in Rome watching gladiator fights to the death are we?
