Why is this man still reffing fights? Nover recovered quick. Justified stoppage? I don’t know. Where’s Herb Dean/Big John when you need them?

French Canadians shouldn’t be allowed to reff fights ever. I know they want to feel like they matter in the world, but deliberately calling fights wrong just so the rest of the world will remember that they exist is pathetic.

in my opinion, looks like Lavigne was trying to stop the fight but Bradley kept punching. Bradley should be fined for this. He’s a pro fighter. Lavigne is not. Lavigne got overpowered and probably scared and confused. When Nover upkicked, Lavigne got scared and released Bradley. The whole thing was a mess but to me it looks like it was Bradley who would stop fighting when he was grabbed by Lavigne and dragged Lavigne intot he fight.

Why the hell was Kyle still throwing punches while the Ref was grabbing him? Why did the Ref Let him go? Why did Kyle put his hands up to the Ref after he punched Phillipe?

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

Good work putting this up Bruno. I didn’t get to see this fight as it wasn’t broadcast for me, but I figured Yves had an early stoppage. Every fight he was in, he was booed mercilessly and looks like for good reason.

Phillipe went limp for a sec and then defended through instinct for a sec then bam he recovered. The ref saw this happen faster than he could stop the bout cuz his thought process was too slow

that was completely justified. that dude looked like he was going out. Just cause he got up quick does not mean he lost his equilibrium. Ref can’t stop the fight and then let it continue

Phillipe looked like he went limp for like a split second. That is when he decided it was over. Once you step in, it isn’t good to say fight on. Bad for Phillipe though.

TriangeChoke Says, in 5-25-2009 at 10:23:47 from 64.254.235.50

Very Odd, Yves is usually considered one of the best in my book

I think it was when Nover was lying on his face for that split second that he thought the fight was over…then let it resume, then had a brain fart and panicked and still stopped it…very unlike Yves

are you guys stupid? phillipe was clearly out and limp and thats when yves jumped in. how could anyone deny this when it is so clear and evident in the gifs. he wasnt going to recover from that either way and the ref was protecting the fighter when he couldnt protect himself.

thats a refs job.

kyle bradley actually ignored the refs attempts to stop the fight.

looking at the way nover went limp, it should have been stopped, but it shouldn’t have been let to go again after yves grabbed kyle, that just made the stoppage look worse. anyways imo an early stoppage is better than a late on, which mazagatti is habitually guilty at

sweepykenivelle Says, in 5-25-2009 at 13:17:28 from 99.27.180.223

mygif
Tmoney Says, in 5-25-2009 at 14:21:43 from 24.20.95.118

I am going to have to side with Yves on this one, in retrospect it was a bad call but job #1 is to protect the fighters. He got slammed, one punch looked to drop him and while flat on his face took a defenseless shot. Refs don’t have the instant replay option, and if he let that go and the fighter WAS out he could have been in trouble for not stopping it.

If you don’t want an early stoppage don’t put yourself into a position where you are taking hits without intelligently defending yourself.

Bad call yes, but not as bad as everybody is making it out to be.

mygif_alt
mmafan Says, in 5-25-2009 at 14:37:43 from 174.116.112.222

questionable stoppage, but the real question is; why did kyle keep attacking while the ref was trying to stop him. If the ref tries to restrain you then you are supposed to stop.

mygif
slickrick210 Says, in 5-25-2009 at 14:51:12 from 70.120.73.139

mygif_alt
Drew Says, in 5-25-2009 at 15:32:16 from 207.210.26.156

It’s not the stoppage that was awful, it’s WHEN he stopped it. When Nover was face down taking shots, that was the right time to stop it. But, how do you then stop a fight AFTER the guy fully recovers and bounces back up to his feet? Either you stop it the first time, or let them continue. Lavigne did once again panic.

mygif
L-E-S Says, in 5-25-2009 at 15:36:05 from 99.243.122.75

Refs need to command respect in the ring. If the fighters don’t respect you, they won’t respect your call. If it was anybody else other than Yves Lavigne reffing this fight, the instant that ref grabbed the attacking fighter, that fighter would stop. YL has a history of bad calls, and the fighters are aware of this going into their fights with him reffing.

Sean Wooldridge Says, in 5-25-2009 at 16:01:51 from 72.86.122.178

Rogan was trying to say that he may have been transitioning?? I haven’t been training that long, so maybe that’s why I haven’t yet learned the transition where you completely flatten out and bury your face in the mat. Lavigne didn’t stop the fight early. What, was Nover just pretending to be knocked out for a second? Same with Koscheck in is last fight? When you look knocked out, the fight is over. Plain and simple. Footage of a fighter pounding an unconscious body over and over is very bad for the sport. The refs know that. Bradley should be severely disciplined for shrugging off the ref after a stoppage. He is the one who should be booed.

hulkstie Says, in 5-25-2009 at 19:54:59 from 142.59.165.105

As a ref, you can’t hesitate, once you step in it’s over, none of this “well maybe he’s ok” gotta be confident in the decision and he was not and that is why he got BOOOOOOOOOOOed. I say it would have been a justified stoppage if he jumped in with authority, but he looked like a grandma trying to break up a fight who got pushed to the side.

mygif
Iconoclast Says, in 5-25-2009 at 23:21:07 from 98.168.205.231

Not an unreasonable stoppage. Nover didn’t “slip”; his arms gave out. If you appear to be unable to defend yourself, then the ref has to stop the fight. Now, his handling of the stoppage leaves a lot to be desired.

Mike Says, in 5-26-2009 at 00:55:04 from 24.42.127.185

Just because you go limp it’s not a reason to stop a fight. Otherwise, every fight would be stopped on the first knockdown. That’s what a knockdown is, you get hit and go limp and fall down. Fights are stopped because you cannot defend yourself, Eve jumped in when Nover got hit and went limp, he did not wait to see if he could defend himself after. So you idiots who says he went limp so it’s over clearly do not know anything about mma.

mygif
rza808 Says, in 5-26-2009 at 12:55:45 from 98.160.148.39

I clearly said he went limp then defended himself shortly after. The ref was just too slow to react to what he thought was total loss of motor function then made an idiot stoppage when all was proper

doweboy24 Says, in 5-27-2009 at 13:19:56 from 76.209.139.180

If you’re supposed to stop a fight once someone gets stunned and loses consciousness for a split second 90% of the fights should be stopped waaaayyyyyy earlier than they are. The thing I love about Big John is he would give ANYONE a chance to recover. If it didnt look good immediately following that first big blow he would jump in. Nover took one big shot… and if he wasnt recovered and unable to grab Bradley’s foot and push kick Bradley off of him Nover would still be taking punishment right now. To me that sounds like an early stoppage. Why was Hughes given a chance to recover, and why didnt the Rashad fight end in the first when Machida caught Rashad and knocked him down?

He did not go limp, he may have looked limp because he got hit by another right by bradley while he was trying to grab the leg of bradley plus the push by bradley’s left hand. But Nover immediately transitioned to rolling over to defend himself! Bradley in response saw that Nover wasn’t hurt kept on attacking even if he felt that Lavigne was stopping him, because Bradley is full of sh*t (you should listen to his interview, he tried to make a bloody finish even if he can’t). When you look at the video closely, you would see that Bradley turned to the ref when Nover successfully defended by landing a good upkick which threw him back. Bradley is a worthless piece of sh*t, that’s why he hasn’t won yet any fight in the UFC.

What’s weird is how the other guy kept fighting and then the ref backed off.

I never believed Phillipe Nover was a good fighter. I knew he was over hyped I knew Efrain Escudero was going to exposed him for hype job that he is. Then, Phillipe Nover was knocked out by Kyle Bradley. Phillipe is a bust.
