based on this post fight press conference, I guess, in Elite XC anyway, tapping is a way to let the ref know that your are “good”…. hahaha ….what a crock of BS. In my opinion, Elite XC is a joke…. just like Kimbo… hahahaha

I don’t know whats wrong with everyone… Elite XC puts on a pretty damn good production, and they had great fights. You should always have the headliner be a title fight however. Also the last two stoppages were suspect, Smith shouldn’t have said he couldn’t see but the doctor should have given him his full five minutes. Also, Thomson was gonna go down in the next 30-45 seconds anyways. And about kimbo tapping… what the hell are yall talking about. It was clearly a thumbs up. Kimbo has a long long way to go, and it showed right there, EliteXC should put less importance on their music, lights, and intros and more importance on their ref’s, rules, and doctors.

You know maybe Kimbo is speaking Chinese or somthing but Kimbo said “I have a long way to go.” Not to wish him well is bullshit. Don’t hate on Kimbo because its the business decision of the company to make him the face of MMA for their org. If you watched the fight for FREE then you should keep your mouth shut because many people tuned in to watch the Kimbo fight to see if he would lose to a game competitor for him like Thompson.

Shaw is an idiot. EliteXC has put on very good shows (on Showtime), but this one wasn’t. They pulled out all this circus stuff to try to attract new fans(?). It pissed off real, long time MMA fans though. They should keep it MMA and less WWE. At least we know that WWE matches are pre-determined, MMA matches are supposed to be legit.

All this circus of EXC on saturday was the clear example of what boxing promoters can do to this sport. Shaw is a boxing promoter first and he is running his company just like that. Every promoter has their star that they put all their focus and investement on at the expense of the other fighters. But in order to make money boxing promoters put their best against hyped up low to mid level fighters with questionable advantages on their side like referees and judges, and rarely against top contention, because once that star looses its luster then they forget about them. Unfortunately this will happen to Kimbo, once he loses and shaw doesn’t need him anymore he will soon forgotten like many other boxers. So whos next after kimbo, Rodgers? thats usually how it works. In other MMA orgs a champion may lose to top contention and still be considered great, Couture-Liddell, Liddell-Jackson can you ever question these guys for fighting the best. In boxing you don’t see this anymore.

@Mike O’Langot, that was the idea of EXC, but I will assume you were already aware of that. Thank you anyway for letting me know that I wasn’t the only one who seen it for free. For a minute there I was feeling special. My reasoning for my earlier comments were that everyone who is bashing Kimbo tuned in to see the all the fights INCLUDING the Kimbo fight. He is early in his career and he admits that he has a long way to go in MMA. I see all the negative comments about Kimbo and I feel that anybody who feels Kimbo is trash or a waste of talent or anything listed in the above comments can simply turn the channel. I want to see anyone who posted a negative comment concerning Kimbo’s performance to Fight Kimbo and then put thier comments on this site.

Watching that press conference with the owners and the reporters there still so deluded is amazing.

Shaw probably only let the ELITE XC-friendly reporters in as evidence by his personal greeting to one of them.

I was a KIMBO fan before… now not anymore. I’ve seen him dodge questions with the response “who? WHO? WHO?” which is kinda childish. He did it when asked about Gannon and in another interview when mentioned about Dana White (and I’m no fan of Dana).

It was initially a bit humorous the “Who? Who? Who” ….but then he should step up and answer the question. A mature man would not do that and say, yeah, I’ll take that guy on. I’ve improved since that defeat etc. etc….

I think Elite XC admit it themselves….. that KIMBO carried the whole promotion. KIMBO being so mediocre therefore must mean the whole ELITE is just as mediocre as KIMBO.

I just want to say that everyone that has said this was a “joke” or “worst fight ever” is a complete idiot. I’ve been following MMA since the beginning and there have been some real jokes and some really awful displays of MMA.

Kimbo is a very good fighter with tons of heart, but simply does not have enough experience on the ground. If he is willing that can change very quickly for someone with his ability. All the fights were good and for the first time elite seemed like a real organization. I hope that Kimbo continues to train and improve and reach his potential.

P.S. Frank Shamrock shouldn’t be so quick to jump on people. Some of us have seen his fights. Cung Lee schooled him from every conceivable angle. He was completely outclassed and could have gotten really hurt.

Finally some one I agree with.
I’ve seen far, far, far worse than these fights. Elite XC is hardly UFC or Pride standards but labelling some of them “the worst in mma” is a bit OTT.
