That would appear to be a tap. That isn’t a signal used to signify being “OK” as the announcer said.

It looks more like Kimbo was shaking his hand with his thumb up, gesturing that he’s ok like the announcers said. If he was tapping, I doubt that he would have followed it up with several knees.

Rogers is an idiot. He has no right to disrespect Kimbo the way he did in the press conference, saying that he’s garbage.

What the video shows is Kombo is all right with the thumbs up. But when the camera went shows the fight from the back of the arena, thats when Rogers saw Kimbo Tap. What ever though, it was still a complete fail. Gary Shaw is an idiot. Gina Carano is Hot, and Robbie vs Scott was okay.

The real issue I had was the over all feeling I got that EliteXC was trying very hard to prove themselves to be legit, and in doing so seemed to favor thier “champions”.

Smith/Lawler fight: Even though it was a blatant finger to the eye, Smith should have been given the 5 minutes to recover and then ASKED whether he was able to fight. This is NOT a referee or corner or doctor’s decision. Its the fighters call. For the doctor to step in and stop the fight when Smith had won round 2 and was pressing the pace was VERY shady in my book. And pretty much everyone who was watching with me agreed. Lawlers expression to me was that he felt like he had stolen something and didnt get caught.

Slice fight: Did he tap? Didnt he? Its really irrrelevant. THe issue I had was that Thompson was still DEFENDING HIMSELF. In every other fight if your moving, returning punches and smartly defending yourself the referee will let you go. Yes he was hurt. Thats part of the game. He wasnt unconscious. He was returning blows and still on his feet. I think EliteXC saw him win round 2 by keeping Kimbo on his back the whole fight, and didnt want to see Kimbo’s bubble get blown by losing to a “real” MMA fighter (no….Tank is not a real MMA fighter. He is a bar-thug).

I will not watch EliteXC again, because I dont think in my mind they know a fair fight when one lands in thier laps. At the least UFC will let a fight go fair…even if it means thier heralded champion gets his stuff pushed in (Franklin? Hughes ?? Lidell??).

It’s funny to me that this is even an issue. Clearly, he was giving a thumbs up. This couldn’t be remotely construed as a tap.

You guys are misunderstanding. He is saying the tap happened when the camera zooms out and you can’t see the ring.

I have never ever seen a camera zoom out that far when the fight is intense, ever.

As you know, even though it is “live” it can be up to 30 seconds delayed.

This really sucks for JAMES THOMPSON,he had kimbo in a bad spot and most likely would have finished him before the ref made them stand for no resson.It looked like they would do almost anything to help kimbo win the fight.
Why did the camera zoom out so far during the main event?They would never but that in the broadcast if they did not mean to do it.
JAMES THOMPSON was rocked a few times but was never out of the fight,it was stopped early to save kimbo just like the early stand ups and the camera zooming way out when kimbo was being chocked.
THOMPSON BEAT KIMBO LAST NIGHT,A FEW DIFFERNT TIMES.
Thompson was f in the stink hole last night by elitexc and they should explain why.

There was one other part of this fight that I found very interesting and no one has mentioned it yet.

How in the hell did Thompson not finish Slice at the end of the 2nd round?

The answer is because he put 0% effort into it.

I find it impossible that he was successfully able to crucify Slice….spent over a minute and a half hitting him in the head, and couldn’t even get a ref stoppage.

For one, Thompson didn’t once throw any power in his forearm shots and Kimbo made no effort whatsoever to defend himself.

Impossible.

What we see is not a tap…BUT why did the camera pan out?

The only controversy is why the fight was stood up when Kimbo was getting GnP and why no stoppage at the end of the second when Kimbo wasn’t defending. Lastly WTF was with the 3rd round stoppage.

IMO this was a garbage production and this fight was very fishy.

How is it that so many people can see whether he tapped or not. The camera angle was practically from outer space. The ring was as small as a pimple on my butt. Maybe they were wearing 3-d glasses they saved from the grinch in 3-d movie…. dammit…. I knew I should have saved mine.

I didn’t see a tap on the live broadcast and that didn’t look like a tap to me there either. I think Rogers was just calling Kimbo out, because he doesn’t like the favoritism being shown/given to Kimbo. I want to see Slice vs. Rogers, if Shaw isn’t too scared to put Kimbo into such a match.

Look, i’m as far from a kimbo backer as you will ever find but everyone needs to face the fact that it WASN’T a tap. He signalled thumbs up which is common and then KNEED THOMPSON RIGHT AFTER which shows he was not on the verge of tapping!!

Having said that, the ref was salivating for any moment where he could stop the fight and had no right to step in premature as he did. What a shame.

It was pretty obvious that the ref had been instructed to make sure Kimbo won. He did.

I’d love to see what was happening while the camera was 3 miles away during the heat of battle. Kimbo was in a choke, they cut away, then cut back and he’s popping his head out of the choke.

And if you look at his JTs face after those combinations, he looked dazed and still won that round afterwards.

I like Kimbo too, but no he should not have been the main card. James Thompson ppl. should have drained that frigging ear. Kimbo was losing the fight on points. His cardio is lacking. There is no reason for him at this point to gas that bad. His ground game is sub par. He did not know what to do when pressed up against the cage and for a big dude witha neck that big–it spelled trouble. Honestly, who is left for him to fight that they can put in there and feed to him without the fans crying foul and not paying to watch him? Rogers is the only likely opponent (he should have been the one to fight him instead of Thompson) The only thing Shaw can do is make a belt and put that before Thompson and another opponent–to keep the fight between him and Kimbo from happening. Kimbo has no one left that is willing to go down like a bitch–unless they can get that big bitch that goes by the name of Bob Sapp to face him–and then it will be a a horrible side show that will pay out high dividends cuz wanna be fans will wanna see to monsters in a cage.

Kimbo is a decent top-100 heavyweight, like Thompson himself. Kimbo was losing that fight til he went for the ear and got a preemie stoppeage. But that’s the game. It is beyond obvious that Kimbo is being protected by EliteXC and anybody that org can influence into playing along, by hook or by crook. Brett Rogers says he saw Kimbo tap at a time Kimbo OUGHT to have tapped, and when, mysteriously, the camera cuts away to a completely incongruous, discordant long shot. There is no question the camera editor was told to cut away. None. But so be it. I believe Rogers, but Kimbo would not be the first, nor will he be the last, fighter to get away with a tap. Kimbo is a likeable top 100 heavyweight, but he is vulnerable to other top 100 guys, or, on any given nite, a top 200 guy. He is 36 years old, of mediocre ability, and will be exposed yet again in a coupla fights (Shaw will give him an easy-as-hell victory in the next one, just to attempt to erase the debacle against Thompson).

Most of the card was a real disapointment to be sure. At first I thought it was a tap out, but I zoomed in and saw that he was giving a thumbs up. He didn’t tap Thompson’s arm.

Even if he did tap Thompson wouldn’t have let go. No one lets go until the ref gets in there, and if he did he wouldn’t have played along and acted like nothing happened. If anyone tapped it was the guy in the grassy knoll that the camera panned out to get a shot of, not Kimbo.

No tap, saw the fight on HD clearly had the thumb up and wiggling his wrist like Faber. This is the first time I saw Kimbo look beatable. It pissed me off I yelling at that dumbo eared retard thompson to go for the mount instead of a side control. He could have easily done it and done more damage than those silly forearms. Thompson had no stamina and no ground and pound game either. I agree with the stoppage though, he took too many clean undefended shots to the face by a beast of a puncher like kimbo. You can’t expect the ref not to stop the fight if you’re using your face as a shield no matter were you fight. At least put your hands up and try to block some of them.

When did MMA become the next WWF Football League? Pretty sad the national televised event had to be fixed and really make the sport look bad to the first time viewers!! Would love to see Kimbo against Fedor!! I think Kimbo may go back to defending his friends on streets of Jacksonville after a quick submission from Fedor. The rap singers, cheerleaders, announcers and Ken Shamrock really made the event comical!! Maybe the network and Elite XC will think about airing another Saturday Night bout!!??
