Kimbo is a mma joke and will never beat anyone legitimate. But as far as this fight goes; he did knock out Tank fairly. There was no head stomp, he simply pulled his leg out and stepped back; and there was definitely no lay down, Tank got caught good. Kimbo deserves credit like everyone else for stepping in the octagon. Having said that, Kimbo will never amount to anything in mma other than a sideshow because any semi talented fighter will put him away within one round.

Thank you for posting the Fight. YES Tank is washed up and yes Kimbo hasn’t fought anyone. But to be honest is he supposed to challange for the title in only his 2nd MMA fight. Kimbo is a good fighter but he is not an mma star yet. But yet in mma there are stars who are standup fighters like Chuck Liddell. Kimbo is a standup fighter like Chuck but he will have to learn to defend takedowns to utilize his great boxing skills. Like any legends in boxing or mma you have to bring a fighter into it in baby steps. Remember Bas Rutten is his trainer and he will get Kimbo well trained in mma before he has to fight people who are black belts in Ju Jitsu such as Frank Mir or been as experienced as Tim Silvia. I think maybe in the next couple of years it will be fun to watch Kimbo knock a couple people out but it will take him a while to be a full mma star. It looks like KS has improved since his days on youtube. Working with Bas will improve his game, but he will have to venture out and improve his ground game by working with some jits fighters. The problem is that eventually people will pick up on his weaknesses after fighting him. He seems to go back to his right hand when he really wants to put out the lights (see 2:01, 2:08, 2:11). If he fights someone who can dodge that and follow with a very heavy left hook, well we’ll just have to see. As for him being part of Elite XC, it is great for MMA since people have an option other than WEC or UFC; PPV is expensive. And, the fighters may want a change also. I do hope he fights someone better next time, and maybe Elite will attract some credible talent after this. Kimbo v. Ortiz? It sure would get people talking. Ortiz has been talking shit about him and his UFC contract is almost up.

LOL- I read through so many of these comments. 1st… You don’t come into any sport and get BIG names to come out and play. Plain and simple it doesn’t happen. Tank was a step to what ever the powers that be deem is the next step on the ladder.
#2 Tank came out like he always has. Head down arms flying hoping to run over his opponent. Remember most of Tanks wins were inside the first few moments of a given round. He “was” a bulldozer. He DID land at least one punch and it didn’t so much as make Kimbo blink. In the end the Tank ran into a wall of muscle. 260 some odd pounds of flab vs 230 lbs of ripped flesh. Tank KNEW he was out classed body wise and he KNEW that if he couldn’t drop Kimbo in the 1st few seconds he was done. Maybe he did half take a fall. If he did though its cause he knew he was going to get destroyed.
#3 Who knows how his ground game will be. He’ll get it or he wont. Some of these guys have to be able to get him to the matt in oder to get these submissions. I for one wouldn’t look forward trying to make it past Kimbo sledge hammer hands.
Last you’ll note that he said Tank was one of his dream fights as was Tyson. We all remember Tank back in the day and would jump up and down watching him run over people. I’m sure Kimbo was just like that watching Tank in the day. He said it himself.

The fight between Kimbo and Abbott was surely a no-brainer. I believe that the fight needed to happen for the simple fact that Kimbo needs to build his ranking and knowledge of fighting by going up against different opponents with different styles in which he may ahcieve a better fighting style for himself. I’d like to see him fight as much fighters he can, even if it means fighting has-beens’, so that he may one day fight a real professional of the sport. Kimbo might be a great fighter but until he fights a current mma challenger we’ll never know. He lost to Gannon and one of those giant Russian boxers(in the boxing ring). Think about it…. Gannon beat kimbo’s ass. Soon after Gannon got a MMA shot and got his ass handed to him in the cage. Gannon got totally destroyed when he fought other MMA fighters. Yeah Kimbo did ok. If he can create distance between himself and his opponent, his strikes are hard to defend. Tank has no clinch therefore Kimbo had his way with him. Once Kimbo fights an opponent with a good close defense, Kimbos’s lack of training will become evident. That’s why they don’t want to pit him against a good bjj, wrestler type fighter just yet. Even in the post fight interview Bas admits that Kimbo needs a few more fights before he can stand in there with the elite. They’ll feed Kimbo a few more cans before we see an ultimate match-up. Tanks got to retire with some dignity. When he was younger his youthful power made up for his lack of skills. Theres no more eye of the tiger in Tank. This is for the guy who think this was rigged, I must have watched the video like 20 times, first time tank fell it was from 2 solid upper cuts (then he got clocked in the back of the head)mind you by this point I sure he still had cobwebs in his head, second knockdown was from a right hand to the temple (flash knockdown)but as he was getting up he almost got caught with a ryu street fighter uppercut. oh and just to let you know that i am an open minded person. heres my opinion for one way to beat a fighter like kimbo. hard leg kicks. a fighter with reach, defense, and good solid leg kicks. if youre forced to stand with a striker, take away his legs..you take away his power.options will open up from there. peace.

Custom, I do agree with you regarding how to beat Kimbo. Reach, leg kicks, and mobility. At 34 I don’t think Kimbo can keep up a sustained attack for 3 rounds. If you can move and stick punches and leg kicks in and weaken his base you can probably take him to the ground in the third when he’s tired and go for a sub. Kimbo’s got great upper body development but smallish legs. Of course this is all theoretical and easier said than done.

Whamo! WoW! Total domination… However, Tank did tank about 8 seconds into that fight. He fought like he did absolutelly no training, as in none. He was gassed after the first clinch… On the other had… Kimbo is a monster! Kimbo is a natural to the fight game. Under the world-clas tuteledge of Bass Ruten, he will pick up a ground game and Bass has already elevated Kimbos striking to another level, as in, off the charts type level… If Bass believes in Kimbo then its safe to say he will show more every fight. Come on Kimbo has no history of experience like alot of other MMA fighters. He is 34 years old and just started his MMA career.So give him a break nobody who becomes pro automatically fights the top fighters. Everyone started there career fighting nobodys. All of a sudden people want him to fight in his 3rd fight a guy like frank mir come on. We all know Kimbo needs to work on his ground game, but this guy just wants to fight and you got to love that. Tank really needs to give it up, he is way to old, that was no fight for Kimbo, but that one guy is right you dont just get to come in off the street and fight the topdog, you got to earn it, if kimbo keeps winning then he will get his time to shine just like all the other fighters, but personally i cant see him getting that far and fighting people like Chuck Liddell & Rampage Jackson, he is just really not that good.

The second he (kimbo) gets into the ring with a professional he’s doomed. too big to have any stamina and not very flexible I’m betting. i would pay big money to see him get knocked the F*@k out! as far as “overwhelming force” is concerned, there have been lots of guys through out the short history of the UFC with power (and power only-like slice) and they are no longer factors. I find it “laughable” that he fought a 42 year old tank abbott. “laughable” is the size of the balls it must have taken to get ones self into the ring to fight a man 70 lbs heavier than he was when he was fighting —10 years ago! how about for his next fight we have him fight George Costanza from Seinfeld. take some “balls” for that too. i dont even like tank but come on. lets wait to see him fight someone current, a non-retired professional fighter. then we’ll see what is “laughable”

we all know what a bum kimbo is now. He’s as worthless as I expected. The only people he can beat are old, out of shape has beens. When he finally fought a halfway decent fighter, he got dominated. Elite XC deserved to go out of business-terrible promoting and bad management. Imagine Kimbo Slice being your star. The UFC will continue to get stronger and Affliction may stay in competition but Kimbo Slice won’t even be a has been, he’ll be a never was even close.
