I think it was stopped to soon, it seemed fixed to me. I like Kimbo but he didn’t have much endurance. He was very luck it wasn’t stopped in the second when he was getting battered on the ground. If it was the other way round the ref would have stopped it then.

This fight was by far the worst mma fight ever. Kimbo fuckin sucks ass! No ground game or take down defense at all. James Thompson didn’t even shoot to take kimbo down. He stumbled toward him and was able to take kimbo down like 3 times the same way. How fuckin terrible! A better striker or ground and pound guy would have EASILY fucked up Kimbo in the first round. Man, this guy really is a fuckin joke. This fight proves that Kimbo will never be the star that all the fake mma fans want him to be.

I was more disappointed with Thompson’s inability to secure Slice on the ground. Because I thought he was the more experienced fighter, and I thought he was the stronger and bigger guy? I guess Frank Shamrock was wrong after all.

The stoppage was necessary too, Thompson had no answer in the 3rd and notice how he didn’t even move from his corner? He was totally gassed out, more gassed than Slice. Plus he got rocked, you can see his eyes about to roll in the back of his head. And one more thing, that Martian on his ear didn’t really do him well. Lol.

Let’s hope that the WEC tonight is better, it should be based on what I’ve seen from them previously. (I’m picking Pulver to beat Faber, for the record.) Hopefully the EliteXC event on Showtime on June 14th will be better too.

This was not a fair fight or fair decision.

Pity a rematch is very unlikely to occur.

Any half-decent UFC fighter can probably finish off Kimbo at this stage if they can avoid a knockout in the 1st round.

i don’t know, kimbo showed some promise as a mixed martial artist. i think he’s definitely improved since his street fighting days. he really isn’t that bad.

Elite XC screwed up this entire night. The point was to put themselves on the national stage against the UFC. What a joke. They stopped one fight for an eye poke (because the guy had the nerve to ask for his 5 minutes), another between rounds (because it looked like a girl might start bleeding on television), and then gift-wrapped a victory for their star Kimbo at the first chance they got, while his opponent was still standing, still trying to fight, and still game, after letting Kimbo eat about a hundred unblocked elbows at the end of round two. When it was clear the ref wasn’t going to stop the fight in the last minute of round two, Thompson really should have just gotten off of him… I’d bet big bucks Kimbo would not have been ready, willing, or able to stand.

Yeah, it looked like a tap first time to me, too, but if you look at it again Kimbo doesn’t touch Kombo’s elbow; he’s actually giving a thumbs up. No doubt that Kimbo was finished fighting well before the second round ended, though. It should have been stopped there for sure.

Not fixed. Just a bad stoppage. If they would have let it go another 30 seconds he could have finished it. Kimbo was so outta shape and it showed. He is a brawler, so what do you expect? It was a good match up but a poor performance.
Disappointing to say the least but not the worst MMA fight by far. MMA is pledged by poor officiating and this is yet another example of that point. As much as I was not a fan of Big John McCarthy but he was the only guy I trusted in the ring. He was confident and he knew when to stop a fight.
Sad example of MMA fighting. Oh and I think we all agree that Gina was the only good example of fighting last night.

I think your going to see kimbo develop further after this fight. It was close and could have been called at the end of the second but thompson was taking significant damage in the third and wasn’t intelligenly defending himself even though he was standing. just watched the fight again…Kimbo didn’t tap, he gave a thumbs up w/ a few emphases, the camera angle just made it look like a tap (no sense of depth, so it looked like his hand was right on Thompson’s leg). the big mistake here was billing this fight as the main event. the fight itself wasn’t bad, and i don’t think the ref’s decision to end it was ‘fixed.’ but these guys are not headliner material. Kimbo will be a very dangerous fighter in a bit. good thing it was free.

Worst show ever. Every fight sucked. Besides Gina’s beauty, everything else was a piece of s.. and again they fixed another match for Kimbo. Every time you see the elite xc’s president talking, he is talking about money and show. I must say that the main event was pure garbage. I’ve sean James Thompson in his Pride fights and he’s known for having a famous glass jaw and a bull rush(stupid ass) strategy. Well this fight tells it all. Anyone that thinks Kimbo is a great heavyweight knows nothing about fighting.

He was getting his ass handed to him by a very average heavyweight (Thompson). The Colossus is the equivalent of heavyweight spam, he sucks and he looked like a top fighter against Kimbo.

Yes, Kimbo is new to the sport, BUT Thompson isn’t even close to top competition and he almost beat Kimbo.

Thompson most likely was about to get KTFO, but there shouldn’t have even been a 3rd round. Most refs would have stopped it in the 2nd when Kimbo was eating elbows. They didn’t look that damaging, but I’ve seen fights stopped for less. He wasn’t defending himself at all.

I respect Bas Rutten, but he hasn’t helped Kimbo much from what I saw.

I do believe that they made sure that Lawler and Slice won. Bad officiating all around.

Lesnar would destroy Kimbo. UFC isn’t throwing pussies at Lesnar, because they don’t want him to make it look like any big guy can come in and compete with real MMA fighters (and rightfully so). Give Brock time, he needs to learn BJJ (submissions and submission defense) and he’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

To the Kimbo fans: we’re not saying that the dude isn’t a bad ass, but a good street fighter doesn’t equal a good cage fighter. Two different worlds there.

I concur with everyone who thinks that Kimbo is not ready for serious competition and that a more elite fighter would do kimbo in. Dana probably has mixed reactions about this, because for the mma fan this was a joke, but to someone who is not versed in mma and seeing this for the first time, it may have been intertaining and since, it’s about ratings and sponsors, perhaps elite may very well mean competition to the UFC.

However, as mma fans the majority of us know that the level of competition that was showcased that night was a joke aside from Lawler. If those elbomws and punches by Thompson were doing any sufficient damage in the second round, wouldn’t Kimbo have some bruises or lumps? Kimbo was n’t hurt by those hits, just exhausted.

On the other hand, Thompson was VERY hurt by Kimbo’s punches. He was wobbly, his ear was bleeding and, most importantly, he wasn’t intelligently defending himself. If you are just absorbing punches from Kimbo, it’s important for the ref to stop the fight before real, permanent damage is done.

Kimbo isn’t taking the spot of a more deserving fighter. Obviously, he is able to mix it up with mid-level fighters and maybe, eventually, he will be able to fight great mma artists. But he deserves to be there and he’s proven it three times against average level fighters.

Well, I don’t care either way. But as far as MMA fighting, Thompson is established, Kimbo is not. Thompson should have owned him if he has been doing this so much longer than Slice. At the same time, when he was getting pounded in the second round, he gave the ref a thumbs up to say he was ok in the middle of what should have been an easy finish for Thompson. Don’t hate Kimbo because Thompson sucked and couldn’t finish. Kimbo was gassed out, but can obviously take a pounding to the upper body, that’s his youtube trademark. He also showed improved ground skills which a Slice fan would know was non existent a year ago. He will get better, but I don’t think he should be a headliner already and the face of any org., except WWE, lol. I have read everyones comments and I do like Kimbo its just he shouldn’t be the main event just yet. Its too early in his mma career.
Looking again, Thompson was nearly finished but the ref should have given Kimbo the satisfaction of actually knocking him down then at least alot of these arguments on here would not be valid. Any fight in mma can go either way. I suppose he has done fairly well in the short time he has been doing it. Although Thompson aint the best he has still fought in pride and cage rage so has alot more experience.
