Is this fight a work or is Ken Shamrock the lamest? Other athletes his age are doing way way better, for example Bas, Royce, Couture, Severn, Fry and Coleman. Ken Shamrock will always be super hyper over rated in my book. And I don´t care about his age, if he can´t fight because of it, then don´t fight. His brother is the greatest… Ken shall be in home his kids.

With all do respect to Ken, he simply didn’t do anything in this fight. Or in other words – he didn’t come to fight. What brings an “old” man that looked bad in his last 3 fights already, to get back in the ring and humiliate himself?

He NEEDS to retire. He didn’t even shoot for the legs… against a British fighter who are mostly crappy boxers and brawlers. This is an embarrassing loss. He should have retired after losing to Tito the 1st 2nd or 3rd time…

1 punch Shamrock got hit in the head to many times and now he thinks he is a standup fighter.

if you people can even understand what your looking at you shouldnt say dumb shit, ken was controlling the fight blocking most of the shots and countering well he just got caught with a bit right hand, can happen to any one. he was winning that round before he got caught. hes not a top 10 right no way but hes still easy good enough to have a fight if he wants to, its good cos he is doing his passion and probably making a few dollars as well. being retired would be boring as fuck for thses guys.

Watch the video of Shamrock vs. Franklin and you will wonder just how ‘real’ these mma fights are. It’s pretty obvious to anyone that Ken got paid off for that alleged knockout. That being said, I do think mma in general is far beyond other combat sports as far as legitimacy is concerned, but it does raise some troubling questions.

Some people are like Slinkys

They are pretty useless but can be fun if pushed down the stairs.

mygif_alt
The Black Spoon Says, in 3-9-2008 at 08:49:17 from 210.185.15.101

Ken didn’t take a dive vs Franklin. Only a dumbass who doesn’t follow the sport would say that. Look at Ken vs Tito(1,2&3), Ken vs Sakuraba and this fight. Ken just has nothing left. It is 100x more profitable for him to win than lose, so why the fuck would he destroy his name, marketability, and worth taking a dive vs an unknown fighter.

Learn something.

Who told Ken Shamrock that he knew how to strike? This reminded me of his fight years ago vs Dan Severn. They just danced around the ring the whole fight. Thanks to Buzz Berry for landing the KO punch and putting Shamrock out of his misery.

PM Says, in 3-9-2008 at 11:29:07 from 209.183.23.47

the casual fan won’t really know about this fight, so ken will still have some name value left in the states. they will put shamrock up against kimbo slice to continue building him up in the company. i think kimbo vs shamrock would still do some pretty good numbers despite this loss, even though it will be a horrible fight.

Chute Boxe. Says, in 3-9-2008 at 12:01:09 from 99.249.245.56

Sometimes Shamrock has problems with motivation, both in training and in-ring. This guy played it well, went with one two punches, and didn’t piss off the man. Just stayed low. I think that is key.

Piss him off in pre-interviews and get in his face and he’ll care. (Not that it bothered Ortiz if he cared or not.)

nick Says, in 3-9-2008 at 14:02:42 from 24.90.231.141

Man. It’s just sad watching this guy crumble like this. That was a scared fighter last night. I couldn’t believe it when i saw he was fighting again. Tito completely manhandled him the last 2 times they fought that i would think Ken would realize it’s time to move on. This becomes a health issue at this point. He goes into the ring and is basically a punching bag. And i don’t know what fight SMACK was watching, but Ken wasn’t winning that fight when he got knocked out

Durkastanian Says, in 3-9-2008 at 15:27:28 from 24.22.115.35

Hey blackpoon–you obviously worship at the alter of Ken Glamrock. Do you really think that his vanity outweighs his need to put food on the table and pay his mortgage? Of course mma fighters take dives. Look at their meager earnings. The fact that you became so offended by the proposition shows a basic misapprehension about human nature and the nature of combat sports. It’s actually 100x MORE profitable for him to bet the house on a first round knock-out when he’s favored and then fall down when barely grazed. Combat sports are a step above Professional Wrestling in the sense that most of the fights are real and the ones that are fixed are more realistically acted. If you had the choice to make ten thousand dollars or a hundred thousand dollars what would you do? Economic imperatives outweigh everything, including pride or vanity. Wake up.

After watching the first 20 or so UFC’s on DVD, I think Ken was overrated even back in the old days. He looked good body-wise, but his fighting has always been overrated. After watching TUF3 and seeing a bit of his personality, he seems to be a complete idiot. I rate Frank, but Ken has got nothing.

I love Ken, but I think it’s time for him to hang it up. As far as that fight goes… I think the Ref stopped it too early. Ken might not have won anyway and he didn’t seem to complain about the stoppage, but it was still too early IMO.

Donny Q. Says, in 3-12-2008 at 06:28:10 from 76.27.200.190

I know Ken is a recognized as a pioneer in the sport, but he needs to understand MMA is constantly evolving. Thats one of the reasons I love this sport. Apparently though, its evolving far beyond Ken Shamrock’s abilities. I don’t believe his age is to blame. I’m so sick of seeing Ken Shamrock fighting retirement and having these grand entrances, “…back from retirement on his -[insert whatever television channels' newest fight league is called]- debut!”, “…in the best shape of his life”, stealing two minutes of fight time and seventy-five minutes of locker/press room crap from main events. Aren’t there enough great new and old fighters out there to get excited about? I’d probably feel bad about all of this if Ken Shamrock ever appeared to have any respect for the sport and other fighters. All the while, giving off an attitude like he demands so much respect and admiration from everyone in the MMA community. Do fans and fighters alike owe him so much? Keep in mind I don’t know the man and this is all just my opinion. The media could be as much or more to blame. If I’m way of base by all means, let me have it. MMA represents a great change for the world of modern sports. Both in general attitude and an insane level of athleticism and pure competition. I’d hate to see bad fights/fighters put an ugly stain on MMA or draw focus away from what this sport has to offer.

I’m wondering if Ken didn’t just take a dive and collect his paycheck. I watched this fight on Showtime and it looked like Berry’s punch hit Ken’s hand more than it hit his face. I could be wrong, but it just looked too soft to me.

mygif
Dizzo Says, in 3-13-2008 at 16:05:06 from 24.96.78.35

When i saw the fight on cabble, and it was a clear picture, it looked like the guy barely touched him and he had a delayed fall. Almost like he was scared to get hit by the guy. We’ve seen Ken take alot more punishment than that before

Shamrock is quickly becoming a highlight reel.
Donny Q, you hit the nail on the head…couldn’t have said it better myself.
Dizzo, you are also right by saying he has taken a lot more punishment than that before. I think he either threw the fight, or his head has simply turned to mush.
Either way, he’s not that good anymore, and can’t keep up with even mediocre fighters. I say pack it up.
