Ken Shamrock Talks The Beginning Of MMA, Steroids, Pro Wrestling And Fighting Bas Rutten.
Steroids is cheating, period! Guys like Barry Bonds, Mark Macguire, etc. These guys broke records while they were on roids. That’s called “cheating”. Their records shouldn’t count, and it’s a disgrace to the original record holders. Football, Hockey, UFC, Boxing, etc. should all test for roids and act accordingly. Hence, Chael Sonnen had to sit out for a year. Don’t just look the other way and act like the problem’s not there…
gotta love shamrock, he just couldnt evolve with tha sport. great guy though.
Definitly have to agree with the end of that. All that juvenile behavior and trash talking is going to turn it into boxing. I know people say it gets them excited for the fights, but I find it annoying. A good matchup gets me excited for a fight. Machida vs. Jones for example, I haven’t heard any trash talking, but I know I’ll more than likely buy it because that’s a good, intriguing match up. I hate listening to Nick Diaz talk, but I love watching him fight and I’ll be more likely to purchase a ppv if he’s on the card.
what a joke
edgar or maynard would have torched this guy even in his prime and they are 50 lbs lighter than him and don’t juice. Come on not all these guys juice. Shows what the Shamrocks have left as a legacy WWF fans are all that interview him.
I always thought Ken was a meathead, but he changed my mind during this interview. He had some great insight on the past, present, and future of the sport.
WOW I have a new found respect for Ken. He kept it real. The gut just seems to “tell it like it is” and like him or not you got to respect him for that!
Oh yeah he seems really sharp mentally..Any body notice that?
very interesting to hear the thoughts of a pioneer…some opinions things i agree with some i don’t, but ken’s thoughts are always interesting…nice clip…thanks bruno
Ken Shamrock is cool.
honest.
Good interview. I agree with snype that Shamrock did not evolve with the sport. Still wish that he would have kicked Tito’s arss!
most of the people using steroids use it to recover from injury, not to juice up (at least in MMA, maybe not other sports). I’m not saying it’s good for the sport, but the line between cheating and trying to get back to normal is blurred. when I had a serious shoulder injury from a bad landing I was prescribed cortizone pills to help with the recovery. Were those ‘steroids’? Technically…. but so is what a doctor will prescribe you to get rid of a poison ivy outbreak.
Just wanted to explain that it’s bot as black and white as people might think.
Also Common sensei i question your common sense. LWs can’t beat HWs. There’s a reason for weight divisions.
*not as black and white (‘bot’ haha)
Nobody’s saying roids are bad if they are prescribed legally by a doctor. If they are for treating injuries, and legal, why would the commission punish people like Sonnen?
So the athletes need to shut the F*** up about it being for injuries.
Does shamrock talk about his hair transplant too ??
REALLY good interview…impressed!!!
“The whole pancreas scene…..”
Do you mean like dumping water and bicarbonate into the small intestine and insulin and glucagon into the bloodstream?
Common Sense! everybody is cheating then
seems like a cool dude
what the F*** is that on the interviewers face?
@ tobes. Who said anything about LW’s beating HW’s or different weight divisions? WTF?Obviously, I wasn’t talking about a doctor prescribing it to rehab from injury people! I’m talking about using it to gain an advantage in competition. Hence, cheating! And no ericsson, not everybody does it! That’s why you only hear about people getting caught every once in awhile. Marquart, Sonnen for instance….
My first fight that I watched live was Ken versus Royce in the rematch and I remember not being able to catch my breath because I was anticipating a submission by Royce-but it was the first time that I had ever seen BJJ soundly defeated
he sounds to be pretty honest here.
First time I watched UFC, shamrock was just beaten by Royce Gracie in the semis, the announcer asked him if he was the second best fighter in the tournament. He said he was the third best fighter. He seemed very humble and honest. Then he went to pro wrestling and became an ass. Bet let’s give credit where it’s due he was atrue pioneer of MMA, he was the only one from he early days with knowledge on striking and ground. He created the Lion’s Den which was the first true MMA gym.
great video to post here Bruno, thank you. I only intended to watch five minutes but got sucked into watching the whole thing, intriguing
Enjoyable
i agree with almost everything he said.not everyone does roids though and i do think its cheating.
