If he passed you cannot prove anything. Must be beyond reasonable doubt unless they want this guy ruined.

Keith Kizer is a real prick, and I say that from personal interaction with this guy. He is a sanctimonious jerk, and loves to be in the spotlight. What a jackass for suspension length of 12 months vs. 90 days for Matt Riddle

pot laws need to change.it helps a lot of people cope with s***.of course someone should not be allowed to be high during a fight or presser but before or after should be allowed.

juniorsdoslightsout Says, in 11-5-2012 at 10:19:25 from

marijuana is a vaso dilator. This would make it a performance enhancing drug period. It helps blood flow bringing oxygen to the cells. If you can’t figure that out on your own, go kick rocks

but weed should be more legal than alcohol.

Kizer is a known criminal. He is known for taking bribes to pass tests. He went to jail for this a few years ago. He should be banned from the sport.

Get this guy back in mma. Nick Diaz, for all his ‘faults’, is the most exciting fighter in the sport. let the poor guy smoke for chrissake. Nevada hates pot because stoners don’t make good gamblers. Considering all of the substances fighters legally (and illegally) take, Nick’s seems a technicality.

Damn, a gallon and a half!? I remember throwing up water in my P.O.’s office, cause I drank so much (around that). And still failed my whiz quiz.
Decriminalize it!♠

Lodovik Says, in 11-5-2012 at 11:56:53 from

The reason Diaz is suspended for 12 months is, that he was already tested positive before. First time he also got just 90 days, like Riddle right now.

Junior is right it is a vaso dialater . To bad you just filled it with co and it stays that way for 10 mins about the time it takes for the dialation to wear off. CO is 200 times more binding than o2…… Suck it junior… I’m a nurse/ex-pot head!

@fitedoc it was nick diaz’s second fail pot test tho…… Riddle it was his first……. Thats why it was longer for diaz foo. I smoke pot regularly and sorry to say its a dumb rule, but rules are rules man cant do anything about it til they decide to finally change it…..

Talk about Vasodilation all you want, but the small increase in blood flow is absolutely negated by the CO2 restriction initially caused by CAUSTIC f****** SMOKE. As if adding smoke to your lungs will help you in an athletic competition. Of course you could argue that Diaz eats the pot, making my point moot, but he himself has verified that he always smokes.

theodore roosevelt Says, in 11-5-2012 at 14:23:42 from

Kizer sounds very nice actually, he just does his job. And Nick needs to grow up and quit smoking, I mean you’re old now dude, act like a man.

amosaback Says, in 11-5-2012 at 14:40:13 from

Dear Juniordoslightsout,

Vasodilation is great in your active tissues, but if you induce systemic vasodilation via marijuana or any other source and then compete at sports then you’ll be at a disadvantage. Typically, during a sporting event, the sympathetic nervous system will, via epinephrine, cause systemic vasoconstriction. This is a good thing; who cares about gastrointestinal perfusion when you have to perform physically (musculoskeletally)? However, muscles need blood to function, so local changes in the muscle like increased temperature, decreased pH, etc., cause vasodilation in the vessels perfusing the active skeletal muscle. This is called autoregulation, and it’s a phenomenal system because when coupled with systemic vasoconstriction by the sympathetic nervous system, the overall effect is blood shunted away from many body systems that don’t particularly need it at the time, and a high level of blood flow to the active muscles. If you were to induce systemic (whole-body) vasodilation via marijuana, then that would permit the majority of the body’s blood to continue flowing at a high rate in systems that would typically have diminished blood flow during exercise. This would leave a smaller portion of the blood available to be sent to the muscle: end result – diminished oxygen utilization, decreased aerobic metabolism rate, increased anaerobic metabolism rate, increased lactate production, decreased time to lactate threshold, increased rate of glycogenolysis, decreased time to fatigue. All this not to mention decreased cardiac output due to decreased venous return (causing decreased stroke volume and decreased Frank-Starling effect on cardiac contractile force) as a result of systemic vasodilation.

What would be interesting is to see the difference in VO2 max scores for the same individuals in two trials: one pan y agua (standard), and one while high on marijuana. Unfortunately, the strict marijuana laws of the state where I practice won’t allow such research to occur in my lab.

(One thing I don’t know is if there is any difference in vasodilation between Indicas and Sativas. Honestly, I hadn’t heard that marijuana is a vasodilator (not my field of research). Of course I can’t speak to marijuana in particular without knowing that. Therefore, my above rationale should be thought of regarding the wisdom of using any systemic vasodilator as an ergogenic aid.)

Take home message: systemic vasodilators would diminish performance in MMA.

Best wishes,
Dr. Amosaback

Thanks for reminding me this was Diaz 2nd offense….I must’ve been smoking too much weed back in my college pre-med days to remember…

I still say raise the threshold for a POS THC screen to 150ng/dL from the 25 or 50 ng cutoff now in effect.

Really? You did the science in a lab yourself and discovered that? Amazing. Did you also know that cannabis slows down movement and impairs thinking? How are those useful in a fight?

Just because someone tested positive for cannibals doesn’t mean they’re under the influence at that moment. Why don’t you look into how long cannibals stays in a persons system.

the majority of positive drug tests in Canadian university sports are for cannabis. And that gives you a two year ban. I imagine it’s a similar situation in America.

I don’t understand… why do they test for this? It’s only because it’s an illegal drug, but that’s a cultural thing, not because it’s dangerous or harmful. Kind of a ridiculous situation. I can understand testing for heroin or cocaine and other recreational drugs (sort of) because those are damaging to someone’s body. Weed isn’t really good for you, but it’s not terrible either. Pretty harmless stuff.

I think it’s reasonable that the fighters should not be high for the fight itself (same as they should not be drunk or on cocaine or something). But with the testing they can differentiate between being high and having trace amounts in the system.

If it “MUST” be tested for, the penalty should be different from other drugs. It should only be something token, like a 30 day suspension and/or a small fine.

I am indifferent on marijuana use in general I’m only stating the facts fellas. not to mention marijuana is a pain killer. If you get hit it may take some of your pain away and it can make some focus riddle even said thats what it helps him do focus. Thats obviously a ped for him we aren’t arguing if the drug should be legal. It should be but it can be argued that this is a PED. Since there’s no way to prove when he smoked it’s the only option the commmision has. I like nick diaz a lot. but I train at high altitude a lot and I smoke a lot. when I smoke and am at high altitude I’m able to work faster with a heavier weight while I’m smoking and working out. believe it or not some smokers understand that it is a ped. Not saying for everyone but for some. I can focus and push more weight while lasting longer doing cardio exercise at a higher heart rate. you tell me. I’m no genius but the fact is for me its a ped so for others it may be as well. This means that it should be illegal for anyone in competition. I’m not saying diaz shouldn’t smoke I’m saying if he wants to he shouldn’t be allowed to fight at a competitive level unless they outlaw the ban. if thats the case whatever let him blaze and fight, but don’t deny the facts

More proof of what an ass backwards pos society we live in. It is legal for old testosterone deficient, impotent geezers to juice to T levels 10 times that of a healthy 20 year old yet a young man with a naturally ocurring excessive amount of testosterone that needs to be controlled by smoking ganja so he doen’t get 25 years in prison for beating the sh1t out of some d-bag who provokes him in the street or an interview gets harassed by f@gs like this guy!

Ruff Neck Says, in 11-5-2012 at 23:13:18 from

Regardless of whether it is a ped or not is really not the issue. the issue is whether or not they can prove that nick was willfully trying to alter the outcome of the drug test we all know he was so now they have to prove it or dismiss the case.

Ruff Neck Says, in 11-5-2012 at 23:23:11 from

And yes I think they “have Nicks number”
And yes Keith gayzer is a prick
And yes Nick is a fool for smoking green when he knows damm well what will happen

Look at it like this guys I get fired from my 80k a year job if I piss hot on a ua so I abstain from smoking pot so that I can keep my job. Diaz knows the rules knows what will happen if he popps on a ua and makes like what 10 times what I do but he cannot stop smoking for his own greater good…..seems like poor judgment to me.

still like watching him fight WARR DIAZ…..just put down the pipe 45 days before the fight man!!

You can argue that it should be allowed in the UFC in the future, but it wasn’t when he did it. He knew the rules and broke them. You may not like the rule, but that is irrelevant. Simple Logic really. Just because you want something changed doesn’t mean he didn’t break the rules.

straightAhead Says, in 11-6-2012 at 01:03:18 from

Guys, drinking too much water can kill you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication

If Nick’s health issues are so bad then he should just fight internationally with smaller orgs or stick to teaching.

ufcinsider Says, in 11-6-2012 at 01:37:37 from

Keith Kizer was recorded on the phone taking bribes to make sure fighters passed and failed tests. When taken to court, the court would not consider the evidence because recording someone on the phone cannot legally be done without his consent.
He is still a fraud.

I don’t smoke weed anymore. I used to in my 20’s… a lot. I was also extremely athletic with Basketball, Skiing, Surfing, Volleyball (sand), and whatever else I could get into. Weed NEVER makes you a better athlete, but does you allow you to enjoy yourself even more.

For f**** sake… let Nick fight. He did nothing wrong. Weed should be legal and is not a PED.
