That is why shots to the base of the skull are so devastating. That one was just glancing, and it knocked Strebendt silly. A good, clean, hard shot to the base of the skull can kill someone. The brain stem has very little protection where the skull ends and the spine starts.

By the way, I’m not saying the blow was illegal. When Thomsan started swinging, it was for the side of the head. Strebendt moved and ended up making it glance the back of his head.

Hey I’m a tough guy. You guys are internet pussies. I’m so cool. If you’re so fuckin tough then why you always talkin shit to “internet fighters”? Keep it in the cage fellas. Class is what seperates champs from chumps. Joe was right, it didn’t look like a clean connect in the replay, but the brain stem is a very soft spot. And you could hear the “thwap” when it hit. That’s why it pissed me off so bad when Shamrock got a shot at Cung Le. Renzo was winning the fight til he pulled that B.S. Should have got disqualified. Put the man in the hospital. I don’t think the outcome would have been much different if it had been Renzo vs Le though. And in all fairness i don’t think Frank did it to be a dirty fighter or anything, I still have a lot of respect for that guy. But rules is rules. Without rules might as well gouge eyes or bite.

He kinda lucked out with that shot, Strebendt left himself wide open and Thomson was in just the right position to blast him like that. Otherwise, I think he’d have lost this one on the ground.

And yes, it was a legal blow, Strebendt clearly turned his head as the blow was coming at him. The shot was aimed at the side, not the back of the head.
