fedor would pound him easily

PitfighterZ Says, in 12-6-2009 at 01:40:41 from

Hamill wasn’t as bad and boring as usual and it is unfortunate that the fight ended with an illegal blow. But, there is no doubt that Bones outclassed the Hammer and the fight was over anyway.

Eventhough bones lost by dq, Dana should start feeding him top 10 lhw.

gimme a break, i get that its illegal but they have never enforced it before, this bout should be ruled a NC because there’s no way Hamil deserves a win for this, and Jones shouldn’t deserve a loss on his record because they decide to make an example of him

se7enoaks Says, in 12-6-2009 at 01:52:46 from

jones lost that one DQ

AOPrinciple Says, in 12-6-2009 at 01:53:33 from

Oooh! Oh baby! I thought that Jones might win but I never expected this kind of manhandling. Jones is something else and will be a serious contender for the belt fairly soon, I would imagine. Very impresive display, especially on the ground.

ozthepowerful Says, in 12-6-2009 at 01:54:23 from

I can’t believe this was a DQ loss for Jon. He utterly dominated Hammil. I’m sorry those elbows are illegal but hey didn’t finish the fight. They were just an excuse for Hammil to give up. What garbage.

Thanks for posting this Bruno.

fedor Says, in 12-6-2009 at 01:55:23 from

knowledge is power.
superior knowledge of the rules gives you power over your opponents.
inferior knowledge gives you this…
he’ll never make that mistake again.
and yes, it did cause the damage that ended the fight – you can see it on the replay. tough luck for jones but no excuses can be made – the rules are the rules. the reason it hasn’t been enforced is because no one does them – cause they know better.
now jones will know better too.

Hun Says, in 12-6-2009 at 02:15:55 from

I don’t understand why Steve Mazzagatti did not stop the fight much much earlier wat before the illegal elbow. The whole thing was too brutal to watch. This clearly was a too late stoppage.

AJ187 Says, in 12-6-2009 at 02:20:58 from

Your telling me one illegal elbow is enough to call the fight? What about the fury of punches and elbows before. That’s what put Hamill in a bad way. It’s funny it takes one illegal blow to stop the fight by MAZ that should of been stopped fifty strikes ago.

sergei Says, in 12-6-2009 at 02:42:04 from

May be UFC should start advertise its rules after all? Who actually know what are illegal in this organiZZZtion?
Knee on the ground? Kicks in the groin?
Anybody would care to publish that s***, ’cause UFC do not?

I was ultimate confused what was wrong with those elbows. For me decision looks like bull s***.

Okay, really with the Fedor comment already? (talking about the first post). I’ve watched Fedor fight, he looks pretty good. But I don’t think he’s that good. And until he decides he “feels like” coming to the UFC to fight anyone of high caliber i’m going to say he’s over rated and you can stop commenting on every light heavyweight video about him.

Interesting fight. Sad to see it end that way. It should have been stopped far earlier. Bones was impressive though, nice kicks, and brutal elboes. Though his unorthodox stand up worries me. I want to see him against a technical boxer.

mmafan400 Says, in 12-6-2009 at 03:03:58 from

btw, fedor is a heavyweight right?

darkcanuck32 Says, in 12-6-2009 at 03:11:39 from

If elbows on the ground are allowed, then all types should be allowed. I know in Muay Thai you can use any style of elbow strike, spinning, upper, downward, across. Weak rules in the UFC, eithier embrace them fully or leave them out of the ground game altogether (add knees to the head). Dumb ending due to foolish rules in a dominating fight by a very classy Jones. I swear this kid is the closest thing to Ong- Bak in the cage.

ichor Says, in 12-6-2009 at 03:17:38 from

Matman Says, in 12-6-2009 at 03:24:53 from

Late stoppage. Giving him a DQ is ridiculous.

DW was just recently telling how Steve Mazzagati sucks as a ref.

Red Says, in 12-6-2009 at 03:33:43 from

Sergei.. you are an idiot. The referees go over the rules in the locker room to the fighters and make sure they know what’s illegal and what isn’t.

Red Says, in 12-6-2009 at 03:34:23 from

Sorry for double posting.. forgot to mention that the rules are also on the UFC website. So if you cared to do your damn research, then you would know.

EidosRock Says, in 12-6-2009 at 03:35:12 from

Given all the nutshots and eyepokes that completely CHANGE the course of fights and yet go unpunished, it seems like a terrible shame that a fight that was pretty much already over has to be decided by an illegal (but ultimately inconsequential) blow.

Paintbrush Says, in 12-6-2009 at 03:58:42 from

Mazagatti is the worst.

Watts Says, in 12-6-2009 at 04:24:31 from

If you did your homework is right. A illegal blow is what it was, and it wasn’t just one. It was several blows. If you noticed, Mazz was going to take a point away. But Matt could not keep going. If it had been some other illegal shot and matt couldn’t keep going. The same result would occur. A knee to a downed fighter, nut shot as you put it, or a shot to the back of the head. Whatever it might be. If the fighter can not shake it and return. It will be a DQ.

cycloneX Says, in 12-6-2009 at 04:25:12 from

Wow.Won by DQ.

Agreed bearlythere

“knowledge is power.
superior knowledge of the rules gives you power over your opponents.
inferior knowledge gives you this…
he’ll never make that mistake again”.

Next time Jones is In the same position pummeling the guy and If the opponent raises one of his arm..BJJ his arm and Arm-bar it and he’ll Tap out.

TJ Says, in 12-6-2009 at 04:30:15 from

First off, it was a DQ because he broke the rules. We don’t see it often, but it was a DQ regardless. Second, who cares about Jon’s perfect record. I’m sure he’s made his mark in the UFC and will continue to shoot up the ladder after this performance.

Watts Says, in 12-6-2009 at 04:31:54 from

Those of you that don’t like these rules do not understand why they came about. Sure you can do some of them strikes in other styles like pride and thai. But the reason they are in the UFC is because without them we would not have the UFC. They were put in place so the UFC could return to the states. Without them we would only be able to watch Pride or events that are over seas. Stop Bi***ing and be happy they are in place and being inforced. Without them we wouldn’t have this great sport to watch.

BigBadAl Says, in 12-6-2009 at 04:36:40 from

Shouldn’t that have been ruled a no contest given that the fight was stopped after 2 illegal elbows? I’v never seen a fighter having a point taken off them for a foul, then immediately awarded the win.

BigBadAl Says, in 12-6-2009 at 04:46:41 from

My bad! I thought Jones was awarded the win. Still think it should have been called a draw though.
Seems a bit silly that If Hamill got back up then the fight would have continued as normal, but if he decided to stay down, he wins. The rules seriously need sorting out in MMA and so does the points system

shocktime Says, in 12-6-2009 at 04:49:28 from

Wow I defended Mazzigatti in other video, but clearly Dana is right horrid Ref Steve is shoulda been stopped way before Jones even got a chance to throw those illegal blows. He r**** Hamill so bad!! Slammed him down like a rag dog then elbowed his face off, unreal

Luke Says, in 12-6-2009 at 05:53:47 from

Good fight, good referee, sad outcome.
Since Jones threw a couple of those illegal ellbows, it’s hard to argue it was inadvertant (like it is for a groin shot, eye poke,..).
Would have to see the replay from another angle to see if one of those, I think 4 illegal blows, did the damage.

@Bruno: I’m from Stuttgart. Tell me should you be arround, I treat you a drink :)

sskott Says, in 12-6-2009 at 08:16:09 from

He did 18 “12 to 6″ elbows coming down to the side, and about 4 going straight down.

Either way, they were all “12 to 6″

andremoura Says, in 12-6-2009 at 08:37:40 from

Jones looked up to that shitty referee twice, to stop the fight because Hamill was not defending himself. This stupid referee should have stopped the fight earlier than Jones shot those elbows 12-6 and lost. Always something stupid happens when this referee, I won’t say nor write his name, shows up to work, please retire.

bigbonesaw Says, in 12-6-2009 at 10:04:41 from

You people who are blaming Mazagati are fools…seriously yeah the fight could have been stopped without many complaints but at the same time Hamil was blocking…Hamil could have

A) Tapped if he was truly done and wanted no more, but his actions were pure blocking I don’t think Mazagatti did wrong

B) If Hamil’s corner belived their fighter was done (AND IT IS THEIR JOB TO PROTECT THEIR FIGHTER) the towel could have been thrown in plain and simple

Hamil stated after the fight his arm was screwed…I assume from blocking elbows…if he knew he had no chance at that point tap, i know its seen as “p****” but seriously this isn’t fight to the death gladiator BS….and you can’t blame the Ref for not knowsing Hamils arm was hurt.

last bit here boyz

The Ref called and illegal shot…was it what really ended the fight? NO….but at the same time YES…and was it Illegal? YES…so whats wrong with the call…do we all know that there was no way Hamil was going to win? YUP….Did Jon Jones hit Hamil illegally? YUP….Hamil has a loss against Bisping that everyone considers a win….not Hamil has a win that everyone considers a loss….bones has a loss everyone considers a win….who cares…Fedor has a loss but we all know it wasn’t a real loss it isn’t a big deal…we saw that Bones is a tallent but he was warned before fight that that was illegal shot I guarentee it :)

grezza Says, in 12-6-2009 at 10:20:52 from

Sure Hamill got the W, by a shitty DQ! But he dont look like no winner to me, and im sure as hell he dont feel like one, after that ass whoopin!!

DaithiO’Heidhin Says, in 12-6-2009 at 11:27:58 from

Well Matt Hammil is basically deaf, so I’m not entirely sure he understood Mazzagati-think about it just after being pummelled with alot of hard shots, then the Mazzah is on top of him checking him out trying to talk to him, never mind having a hearing problem would you be coherent enough to understand?

I don’t think Matt Hammil wanted to win that way, I’m sure any fighter worth his salt doesn’t count it as a win, I’d like to see a rematch

Stephen60641 Says, in 12-6-2009 at 12:40:33 from

And Jon Jones wins by ILLEGAL elbows. Matt Hammill won this fight, short as it was, by disqualification. If guys in a boxing match were fighting and one guy kicked the other in the balls over and over and wins because the other can’t stand up, we know the reciever of the kicks would win, just like Mr. Hammill should have. Jones should be fined, disciplined, and handed the loss… not to mention going through a complete and thorough class on the rules and regulations for MMA in the states. Poor performance for Jones.

Stephen60641 Says, in 12-6-2009 at 12:45:13 from

My bad, Hamill won.

fworn Says, in 12-6-2009 at 12:59:46 from

They should have a rematch, or at least feed Jon Jones a tougher opponent(not saying that Matt isn’t tough). Rules are rules but that’s a horrible way to loose.

mr. 42069 Says, in 12-6-2009 at 15:17:31 from

Pikachumanson Says, in 12-6-2009 at 16:43:42 from

Steve Mazzagati for another excellent reffing job… not! That fight shoulda been stopped sooner than that. Hamill couldn’t do s*** and he was taking too many hard shots before the illegal elbows.

slavekarmaat12 Says, in 12-6-2009 at 17:57:56 from

too bad…so sad! 1st time i saw “bones” fight, can’t wait 2 see him again…ala anderson silva of LHW!!!!

DFA Says, in 12-6-2009 at 19:13:32 from

Total BS, Bones could have twiddled his thumbs for the rest of the round and Hamill wouldn’t have been able to answer the bell fopr the 2nd. However, one illegal blow gave Hamill the rest needed to say he couldn’t continue and give him a terrible DQ win.

Jones is the better fighter clearly and an absolute force at lhw. Can not wait to see him fight next!

Luke Says, in 12-6-2009 at 21:13:56 from

I totaly agree except the towel thing would be against the rules buddy :P

LEEROY Says, in 12-7-2009 at 00:55:43 from

steve mazagatti is a prick, he needs the sack! The fight should of been stopped long before bones even threw them illegal elbows!

The Funky FRO Says, in 12-7-2009 at 18:42:05 from

There’s no way that should tarnish Jones’ record. Hammill had ZERO chance of winning that fight! I thought it should’ve been stopped because the moment that Hamill would tap would be the mark where he goes unconscious. I have no idea how that appears disabilities such as being deaf so excuse my ignorance if I say it’d be scary to see Hamills brain motor functions after that.

I’m sure that’s what the UFC / MMA needs right? What the **** happened to better stopping it one punch too early, then one punch too late? And how long does it take for a No Contest decision to be ruled? Does anyone have a link for the true definition of a ‘No Contest’ bout by any chance? Thanks a million.

JJ is going far man….he’s such a grounded dude, very creative, very strong, and humble even after he could’ve flipped his lid with the decision. No Tito-ish excuses. The guy is a man.

Top that off, he’s training with Greg Jackson’s camp…..WOW man.

el1tefighter Says, in 12-7-2009 at 21:29:25 from

Feudor you are a complete moron!!! Fedor is a heavyweight fighter so of course Jon Jones would have a disadvantage. It’s idiots like you that make MMA look ignorant.

x2468 Says, in 12-8-2009 at 00:42:51 from

Those were some pretty blatant 12 to 6 elbows. I don’t know wtf you guys are all whining about. they’re clearly illegal. If you don’t know the rules of the sport maybe you should look them up. they’ve been out for years.

Daniyal Says, in 12-8-2009 at 07:17:10 from

So the last two elbows he threw did all the damage to Hamill and warranted the DQ? Mazzagatti should be fired and JJ given the win.. even Hamill was surprised he won.

The Black Swordsman Says, in 12-8-2009 at 16:38:27 from

Hammill couldn’t continue because he separated his shoulder after being put on his ass. He had no answers for Jones who dominated him and the Jones should have been credited with the win … the elbow didn’t end the fight the trip and the gnp ended the fight

alpha5 Says, in 12-8-2009 at 22:17:29 from

Ok Jon Jones is for real!!! He reminds me of Anderson Silva….I wouldnt mind seeing those 2 fight…But Jon needs a top 10 opponent…I really don’t think nobody can beat this dude in tha 205lb. I put him above Rashad and Tito and Chuck…The fight should have been a NO contest or Stopped a long time ago. Steve Mazzagati either stops fights to early or to late. His Judgement is off. He was not even givin a proper warning for his illegal blow…But think about it how many people know all the rules on how to drive a car or all the procedures and rules at the job…You can’t even name them all..

GooseUhRoose Says, in 12-10-2009 at 03:20:27 from

Those were clearly 12-6 elbows, which resulted in the most damage. Watch the replay, no blood then 12-6, then a pool. This fight should not have been stopped earlier b/c Hammer was coherent and intelligently defending himself. Making attempts to block the elbows and grabbing for wrist control. I can say that I think this could have went as a NC because of what was leading up to the stoppage, but Jones most certainly should not have got a W as most of you retards are saying. Mazzagatti did a great job, did not stop early, and stopped when he saw a foul. You all should probably start reading rules, maybe actually studying some MMA if you’re going to talk s*** behind a keyboard, and perhaps quit hanging off Jones’s ball?

dirtyharry Says, in 12-16-2009 at 15:38:37 from

hey u all people come on ! look matt hamill is good honest fighter and also he could fight him but i beleive that he did a little dirty job cuz he knew if not finish him then jones will tire and matt will hit him hard and finish jones thats for sure but he was hurt his shoulder and still fighting he is tough and then when illegal elbow once hurt him thats not fair fight so but next time matt will be better and rematch so now he knows what to do with jones . i can see that jones was very little scare cuz u see why matt fowarding him cuz he is not scare tough guy beleive me .

Gohendo Says, in 3-14-2010 at 23:24:42 from

what’s the difference between this elbow and the elbows anderson silva put into lutter’s head while he was in a triangle?

the whole 12-6 thing is idiotic and needs to be removed from the rule book… i mean what’s next? elbow pads? helmets? boxing gloves? YAWN…

hambino Says, in 3-22-2010 at 15:15:12 from

you look at all the wins from this jones bum
i mean come on, you do it on the street it gets called attempted manslaughter
yet this thug does it as a deciding factor for nearly every win, and suddenly he is the king???
this guy would get the slops pounded out of him as a boxer/wrestler because he has nothing else going for him except cheap elbow shots to the face/ head, nearly all the other athletes would at least stand a chance because they are not just a 1 move wonder
why dont we just rename it ” ULTIMATE ELBOW FIGHTS”
