I like the way Jones conducts himself in interviews. It’s nice to have a dominant champion who doesn’t sound like a meathead represent MMA to the general sports public. Not that other champions have, but Jones is particularly articulate.

I like Bones a lot but he’s being ridiculous requesting all this time off. I heard Greg Jackson mention 6 months?! Are you kidding me?! They might as well create an interim title if he needs to be gone that long. If you need some time off,take a two week vacation somewhere and relax. You’re the title holder! You’re sort of expected to be around more than half the year, defending your belt and putting on fights.

According to Chael Sonned there is no such thing as a Pound for Pound champion. Where and when did he say he was taking time off. He said he had nothing scheduled but would fight soon.

k9aid, At the UFC 140 post fight press conference. He actually pleaded with Dana to give him at least 5 months off. Then Greg Jackson went on to tell Ariel Helwani that he should get “at least 4 to 6 months off.”

Of course he’s being fake. He’s on TV. EVERYONE on TV is fake. Do you think Buccigross is being himself? No. I’m sure he swears and gets angry and upset and even yells. But on camera, he doesn’t do those things because he uses common sense. You get in trouble when you don’t act appropriately (Torres, though I don’t find that offensive). When I’m at work (like when Jones is doing interviews and other types of media) I speak proper and I’m not crude. Outside of work, I’m a different person.

The jury’s still out for me on this guy. He certainly conducts himself well interviews, but I wasn’t sure that he handled himself well at the end of the last fight (I agree with with a lot of people about the dropping of Machida). Clearly somethings not quite right about him for so many folk not to like him. Can’t put my finger on it…

It is called “backlash” and it is a physcological phenonomen. When a person is really popular and well-liked there are going to be “haters” for no other reason than they have issues with other’s success and notoriety. Most likely these feelings stem from a deep seeded feeling of inadequacy. Sometimes I think it is better just to be more positive and appreciate people for the good they do. In Jone’s case, you should be happy and like him because he is entertaining and smashes people.
