Pissed off Dana White said Wednesday the Ultimate Fighting Championship has released welterweight contender Jon Fitch and is not going to have anything to do with fighters who are part of the American Kickboxing Academy team in San Jose, Calif.

Update:
Fitch ended up signing a licensing agreement that will allow the UFC to feature him in their upcoming video game release. Throughout the media offensive he waged since being informed of his release, the former Purdue wrestling captain made it clear he had no problem signing the deal but did not appreciate what he viewed as White’s “strong-arm tactics.”

Business is business, unfortunately. Dana had his reasons and we are only getting a piece of the story, mostly Fitch’s. I think Dana was more getting rid of AKA then his fighters, but who knows? There are plenty of good fighters in the UFC, so they won’t be missed that badly.

Even if I owned the UFC I don’t think you’d need a lifetime requirement for likeness. That’s just being greedy. Fitch even stated he would of been fine with something like 5 to 10 years. I’m not sure why that wouldn’t of worked. It just shows hope for other promotions as more talent is likely to follow out the door. It’s a scary thought to think maybe Ortiz had some legitimate gripes against the UFC considering how they’re treating Fitch, a guy who never made waves and never did anything but fight. He deserved better and if Koscheck is out, so did he. The gambling brothers might want to put their attack dog on a leash before he forces more talent out the door. Piss poor move Dana.

Jon Fitch is not the only top fighter to leave the ufc, they all are, slowly but surely.

This had nothing to do with keeping the UFC growing The UFC DEMANDED Fitch sign a LIFETIME release for the usage of his name and image in any video game the UFC decided to use him in. That is absolutely fucking ridiculous. To not have control of his own likeness being used and for any purpose would have been completely irresponsible, and Fitch should be applauded for not signing.

I will not pay for another UFC event until Dana White has been removed.

What do the other people who train at AKA have to with this? If you live right next to a gym where pro mma fighters train in San Jose you now have to commute 2 hours to train at another gym if for some strange reason you want to fight for that scam of a UFC? I find Dana White’s antics here reprehensible. If anyone thinks that he’s doing good for the sport by making these types of deals they aren’t looking at the big picture.

I agree with R. Keegan that the rich create jobs, but that it isn’t an excuse to abuse the situation nor is it a well thought out answer.

Right now Dana White has shown himself to be another Don King. Boxing was one of the top sports in the world for almost one hundred years, and it has basically tanked in recent years. The main reason it tanked is that people were fed up with the corruption that followed boxing and Don King was the guy who basically ruined the sport.

Dana better brush up on his history because if he keeps this up he’ll bring this sport down before it gets a chance to solidify itself in the mainstream.

As much as Brock Lesnar deserved to win over Randy, giving him that fight was one step closer to bringing the sport into disrepute, and now this takes it another notch the wrong way.

I love watching the fights, I really hope the UFC wakes up and sees what it’s doing.
