^Whatever. If it was stopped sooner, than someone would be complaining about “early stoppage”. It is what it is, and nothing you can say will do anything about it. The ref gave the champ all the chances in the world and nothing worked. The better man won.

It’s not about “giving a fighter a chance” – that was a horrible late stoppage. The ref may as well have not been in there, because he had very little interest in protecting Joe’s safety.

Especially Joe Warren, that guy would have gone all Sonnen and bitched how he was still fighting, and due to his wrestling background he’s super tough and blah blah blah. The ref did a fine job. These poor refs man, it’s like you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
Fans call people pussies for tapping and going down when they’re hurt and they complain when a ref forces a stoppage. You guys can’t create a culture in the sport by condoning getting brutalized and then bitch at the refs for “not doing their jobs”, I recognize this is a common trope for MMA debates but, lets see you get in there and do it. Its like, well this is a title fight, should I give him every opportunity, or just stop it now and face the inevitable black-lash?
Bottom line: Is warren severely injured? Was Warren robbed as a result of the stoppage? Is there ANY question who won this fight? No? Good stoppage.

About the stoppage, what KouNTa and Sunfish said. It’s a title fight: no champion would accept being “kind of beaten,” so you got to let it be over. If Warren was seriously in trouble, the corner should have thrown the towel. But in a title bout, you just give the fighters all the opportunities to recover.
I wouldn’t mind a ref being overzealous in an amateur fight or even in someone’s first professional fight. But this is the peak for these guys. It’s all or nothing. If you are a fighter, you wouldn’t want it any other way.

I mean, he strung together a long and brutal combo and didn’t even look close to gassing. And that was 3 rounds deep!
