Joe Rogan Talks About Why The UFC Is Not A Monopoly.
BS!
Rogan is right on here. Many don’t like him, but I like his honest opinions.
The Soccer comparison only works in the US, it is huge everywhere else…
Couldn’t have said it better, except for the soccer comment. You realise ‘soccer’ players earn £250,000 a week here in UK.
Soccer is only the biggest sport in the world that’s all.
Yea Joe the UFC is a monopoly, anytime an MMA organization gets successful and begins to turn a profit the UFC buys it up. Joe is just protecting his interest.
Guys he’s a patriot.of course he will sometimes say things like soccer isn’t big.Because he probably thinks the USA is the whole world.
I completly agree with Rogan.. UFC wants to be the NBA, NFA of MMA in America and the world. And of course soccer is the most popular sport worldwide…Even though I find it SOO damn boring. And I also agree with Rogan on kickboxing? If you haven’t watched it MAN are you missing out! It has to be my number 2 favorite sport it’s non stop action!
According to Danas moms video the FTC would like to disagree
in regards to soccer, i believe he was talking about professional soccer in North America (mostly US) where it was expected to get big but obviously didnt. i dont think rogan is so stupid that he doesn’t realize professional soccer is huge elsewhere in the world, namely europe.
his comments about k1 are interesting. and i agree that is a close second to MMA in terms of its excitement factor.
what do you mean soccer is the best ,give it a little more time in the US it’s only been 15 years for the MLS,the othere sports in the US they have been around for like 100 years so kick back and give it time
And hockey is not the same becouse it’s not big anywhere like soccer is
Bruno: You must have never been to Canada, Sweden or Finland.
@KungFuLowKick
He didn’t say that soccer isn’t popular. He made the claim that professional soccer in the United States, “When we were growing up…” was at one point thought to be a fast rising sport, but wasn’t marketed effectively enough to draw a large fan base. Joe Rogan is probably one of the most culturally tolerant/worldly commentators in sports today.
I’m not an expert on monopolies but there are quite a few MMA organizations. When Zuffa bought Strikeforce I heard rumors that Strikeforce was losing money (I have no idea how true that is). But there are still more organizations. and to compare it to other sports…does MLB have any other baseball companies? No. There was the XFL for football, but that died very quickly. Rogan seems to make sense, but like I said, I’m not an expert and I’m pretty sure he isn’t either.
@dolomike
In Canada there’s 30 Millions people and without exageration there’s at least 20 Millions who watch their hockey team every time they play.In Canada,hockey players can’t even walk in the street without people pestering them.That’s why alot of Canadian hockey players lime to play in the USA where they are not bothered.
All I have to say is *Strikeforce* put on amazing fights full of knockouts and submissions and everyone loved it. It was an awesome alternative for mma fans but its a shame so see Strikeforce fall apart since the purchase of UFC.
Spot on Joe. America is missing the boat on Full Rules Muay Thai. Hopefully guys like Clifton Brown will make the difference and get America up to speed with Muay Thai. America is starting to gain some serious worldwide respect in the Muay Thai game. Joe Schilling, Kevin Ross, Romi Adanza, Ky Hollenbeck are really making names for themselves. Thanks Joe for mentioning MT.
A lot of soccer fans here huh? Well let me tell you why soccer is not, and will never be a big sport in America. Because it sucks and it’s boring! Who wants to watch a game for 2 and a half hours and have the score be 0 to 0? Besides that, the referreing is ridiculous! They call offsides when it’s not, they don’t call it when it is, they don’t use technology like goal side cameras, etc. The way they call fouls or give cards is SO inconsistent, and the worse part of the whole game is the acting! OMG I broke my leg! Then they jump right back in the game! That is simply the worst part of the game, period! And would you like to laugh? Watch the Women’s World Cup! They dive and cry for penalties a LOT less then the men do! It’s ridiculous! Soccer could be a lot bigger in the U.S. and better in general if they would just make a few changes. Instant replay (including fouls, cards, offsides). If they catch you diving or if you’re hurt and get carried off on a stretcher, you should have to sit out for atleast 5 minutes (plus a yellow card for diving) period! Goal side cameras, and for god sakes, you should not be allowed to substitute a player if you’re winning in extra time! That is SO stupid! It could be a much better sport if they would just make changes, but then again so could boxing and college football. Playoffs anyone?
i’m no lawyer, but i dont think the UFC is a monopoly. from what i’ve read, for a company to be a monopoly, they dont only have to be the only one (which the ufc isnt) or the best, they have to engage in monopolizing practices – A monopoly happens when a person or company is able to minimize competition by exercising control over their particular good or service. to my knowledge the ufc hasnt done this, and if they have it’ll hopefully come out in the investigation. Microsoft engaged in these monopolizing practices by only packaging other microsoft products with windows but the government stepped in and put a stop to that, unless the ufc is throwing their weight around to make it more difficult for other mma promotions to start up, i dont think they are actually a monopoly. cocacola did this too, they would threaten to stop using local bottling plants if those plants started bottling for smaller competitors which is illegal.
Common sense I agree with a lot of what you said about soccer. One thing I would like to mention is despite all the flagrant crap that goes on in soccer, I think it’s around 1.6 billion times more exciting than baseball, which for some unfathomable reason is popular in the US.
I agree with Joe Schmoe about K1 and Muay Thai events!
ufc is a monopoly….i like rogan, but at this point he talks soooooooo much bs!!!
and buy the way i still dont know why baseball is so big it’s so boring the games take so long to get done with , i don’t have 5 hours for a baseball game. BRUNO soccer is bigger than hockey in sweden and finland
joe rogan is one of the reason ufc is ruinng mma, he is a biased piece of garbage , i dont know how many times i heard rogan spew garbage, just to hype a fight, he is part of the zuffa hype machine they force you to like a certin fighter and downplay others who are far superior, joe “the 40yr old loser” rogan is a clown, and is tantamount top a common whore… who is told what to say and who to hype, anyone who takes this guys advice on mmma is just a newbie idiot, his other world views are ok but mma he is wrong for, hes helping destroy it, so is “goldie” the corporate whore…just agrees with joe even when joes being a dick…” brought to you by….a dick in the ass”
Apparently, everyone who has posted messages on here has not taken an economics course. It is not a monopoly; it is an oligopoly (few companies have majority of the market share)
@CommonSense
Soccer IS really boring but it’s not the only reason it’s not popular in the USA.Because if it was true Baseball wouldn’t be popular either.Nobody can argue that soccer and baseball are the 2 most boring sports ever.But oddly one is the most popular in the USA.It has to be a marketingt hing and the fact that USA has a bad soccer team and alot of americans need an amercian champion to like something(that’s why kickboxing isn’t popular)
@Dolomike
Then how do you explain the many great Swedish and Finnish hockey players when there’s no good soccer team or players there?Probably because hopckey is more popular and more people play hockey so it makes alot more good high level players then soccer.
