the way joe explains why bjj is so great is the same way my brother explained it to me when he was talking me into trying it. i started 4 years ago, i got my blue belt last year and i believe it has made me a better person all around just like joe says. if you dont have a hobby or something in your life to help you cope with everyday bs i think you should start bjj because its a hell of a stress reliever and confidence booster.

Wow brown belt for 8 years. I just started this month but it’s great. Best stress reliever i’ve found. When youre rolling youre only focused on your opponent, and it will get you in shape quick. Never been so sore after my first few classes. Congrats to joe on years of dedication.

To receive a black belt he should have a gi on!
If you train JIU JITSU you have to wear a gi.
Ok, they were doing submission but what´s the point to receive a black belt and don´t put it on?

Every martial art promote their students differently.
For example, Kyokushin Kai Karate, the art I practice, you must show to your Sensei or Shihan everything you’ve learned.
Once ready, you will have to pass an intense test that will determine if you earned it or not. The goal of the test, drain you of all your energy with workouts, and then see what you are made of.
The test will start with very long intense workout sessions
Then you will have to show your fighting technique learned by taking on 15 opponent one after the other. All the opponents are black belt.
Once done, you will have to perform all your katas. Katas when done the proper ways, is a quite intense process physically.
Aside of that you will have to had pass the braking part, wood and cement block. Depending on your weight, it could be 1 and up.
You will have to brake a few since you have to use different body part such as palm of hand, fist, elbow, kicks etc..
Then…and only then the Sensei or Shihan will let you know if you earned your black belt.
If so, you will receive it, and if everything went well, you could barely stand, your gi will be soaked wet, and you may have few bruises to show for as a good reminder of how hard you did work for that belt.
This…is the KYOKUSHIN way.

You are officially an idiot.No gi grappling is getting more and more popular and do you know that little grappling tournament called ADCC where nobody wears a gi??Yeah that one,one of the biggest jiu jitsu/grappling competiotn in the world.If Eddy Bravo was a direspectful asshole like you say he wouldn’t even care to give belts.The fact he gives belts even if they are useless to his students just prioves he respects jiu jitsu.
