I can understand why Aoki does that, but he will seriously get brain damage if he keeps fighting that way. He takes his chances with trying to avoid GroundNPound but he always gets smashed at some point… He hasnt perfected his style it seems… I guess JZ just couldnt do it as well as Hansen could.

Glad to see him get his but beat. For those who do not know…Aoki is excessively cocky towards other japanese fighters. Alot of them dont particularly care for him, and he has a enormous ego. He thinks himself better then most out of country fighters as well. Not to mention the one time he was getting his butt beat, he played possum from a alleged blow to the back of hte head that replay showed was actually to the shoulder…not the head.
I dont care for him…glad to see him get a “L” on this one.

In response to rawr’s comment about it not being fair that Aoki had to go 3 rounds whereas Hansen won early in his first fight, I don’t think that the previous fight had any affect on the final.
Hansen caught Aoki with a punch in the early seconds. Fatigue was not a factor.
I hope they can organize a UFC vs Dream event like back when Dana took Chuck Liddel over to Pride and got his ass kicked by Rampage.
Penn vs. Aoki…that would be a great test of skill for both fighters.

Yeah, “Hansen got lucky.” How stupid do you have to be to call someone who just knocked Shinya Aoki into nappyland “lucky?” He beat a dominant, great fighter in Aoki and did it the same way he always does it – by swinging anvils for hands and taking shots better than the vast majority of his contemporaries.
Aoki would never get a shot at the title right after a knockout. A close decision can sometimes get that rematch fight, but not getting KTFO in the first 4+ minutes of the first round. He’ll get his shot again after Alvarez probably, and if Alvarez takes the belt then Aoki can definitely make a case for the shot if he stays dominant in the fights he’ll have til the title shot.

BakaSurvivor if you pay attention to MMA u would know Alvarez beat Hansen in a war to originally knock him out of the grand prix. Why would he give the man he just beat the crap out of the first title shot he can wait like everyone else (like he did).
I didnt realize the first time they fought Aoki won by gogoplata, i think it was a cocky move looking back on the fight he tried to win like that again and got knocked out.

That’s fucked up. Eddie got cut and Hansen who was fresh took his place. He doesn’t deserve the belt. They should have at least let one of the semifinalists take alvarez’ place.

1st off, To “MAN,” i dont think Marcelo Garcia has trained with Aoki. although they did fight against each other in ADCC which Marcelo won

@BakaSurvivor: Hansen wasn’t lucky…he escaped the gogo attempt cuz he already lost to Aoki that way and learned his lesson. Then he smashed Aoki’s face and won. Nothing lucky.
And offered the first title shot to Alvarez cuz he replaced Alvarez and wasn’t supposed to be in the finals…class act. Why would he give Aoki an immediate rematch when he just crushed him?
Aoki is on some next level shit on the ground…but is one-dimensional. Hansen is an all around technician and a tough mofo. Just my opinion…

Oh yeah!!! For some reason I thought Aoki put the Gogo on someone else. It was on Hansen! Looks like Hansen learned his mistake from the last time, hopefully Aoki learns his mistakes from this fight. He needs to improve his striking and wrestling, but his BJJ is still world class.

im sorry but that fight left the worst taste in my mouth!! Clearly Joachim was winning this fight from start to finish,, alot of BS went on with the whole “acting job” of shinya aoki(big baby)! The whole kick to the groan and fight stopage was BS and than the contineous warnings throughout the fight given to Joachim for punches to the back of the head was complete GARBAGE! Aoki is NOT even on the same Level as Joachim,, they fight that fight ANYWHERE ELSE in the world other than Japan and Hansen wins 5 of 5 times!! Bad bad taste in my mouth.. what a shame!
