Mir survived the ground and pound, Lesner made a fatal mistake by standing up(Mir already secured his left ankle), then wrapped his legs perfectly using his Lightweight Jitsu skills and secured a Achillies leg Lock. Lesner tapped as soon as he hit the mat. How can a ref mess up a fight when you TAP OUT???? Watch it on this site. Log in to Reply hoplite301 July 18, 2008 Thanks James, glad to agree with an intelligent MMA Fan. Log in to Reply bbb July 18, 2008 ppl who think that this fight was stopped too early are not true fans of mma, probably ppl who started watching mma after the ultimate fighter show, because if they were true fans and had any f..ing idea, they would know that this fight was stopped at the right time. Log in to Reply Sunfish Hero July 18, 2008 Oh shut up with that “true fans of MMA” you pretentious jack ass. They’re probably just Houston Alexander fans and can’t think of another excuse for him to lose to someone like Irvin. Alexander is over hyped and sucks. That’s why he lost to Irvin, because Irvin is better. Honestly who cares when people started watching MMA, get over yourself bbb. Log in to Reply RoyalBeatz07 July 18, 2008 First off, I want to say that I think all fighters should be in agreement to take a little more punishemnt in fights. In my eyes, I see Alexander getting hit with a nicely angled superman punch that caught him off gaurd, and messed up his equilibrium and subsequently he went down. As Iriving comes down, Alexander is regainging composure and IMO didn’t really have time to adjust his position. Irving was smothering him, but check this scenario. Say Alexander pulled gaurd, and Irving escaped to attack. Now you have the two men in the same position. If what followed in the fight was to happen in that situation, the fight would not be stoppped. The ref would wait to see if Alexander would defend himself. Same difference. Give people a chance to recover. Just because he wasn;t in the right position to shoot up, and grab a single leg and hold on for dear life to have the chance to recover, doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be given the chance. He’s a fighter, in a fight, taking punches. What’s 2 or 3 more? Sure they may cut or bruise him, but at least there will be no questions. Also I think 3 5 minute rounds should be re-evaluated. Too many B.S. Judges . I think UFC should instill 3 min rounds, and either go to 5 or 6 rounds. 8 or 10 for championship. That way they only work for 3 min, they getmore chances to rest, and more rounds to finish the fight instead of going to decision. What do you all think about that? Log in to Reply you're all morons July 18, 2008 Lol, stopped early? Are you kidding me? If he would’ve given irvin 3 more seconds on a fighter who’s clearly not covering, then none of you would be complaining. Log in to Reply Niv July 18, 2008 RoyalBeatz07, I believe every fighter who enters the ring or cage has accepted the fact that they are going to take punishment. The fact you might be missing here is that rules and sporting commissions exist to ensure no one gets killed. When a guy gets hit with a hard shot, falls flat on his back and has both arms straight out to the side as if he’s being crucified he’s in serious need of being saved. It doesn’t matter if he appears to be coming out of it, the fight was rightfully stopped as Alexander could have been seriously hurt. There is one more factor for a ref in a situation like this to see if he will give a fighter a little extra wiggle room, and that is past performance. Alexander showed absolutely zero ground defence against Thiago Silva when he was knocked out last time. Consider that against a Big Nog fight where he is legendary for being able to be beaten to a pulp and submit someone out of nowhere. These things must factor into a refs mind when calling a fight and I think Mazagatti made the right call. As for your suggestion on changing rounds to 3 from 5 minutes and having more rounds, I think that’s a great idea, that in itself would ensure higher action fights as there is more rest and less fatigue during each round. Log in to Reply paddedummy July 18, 2008 That rule about stopping a fight if a fighter is not intelligently defending himself needs to be re-worded because anybody who throws punches like a boxer and stands toe to toe in the pocket eating one to give one isn’t intelligently defending himself, lol! People who think that it was stopped early are used to boxing were a guy gets knocked down with a concussion and as long as he can get back up before the count of ten, he can get a second concussion and end up dying later that night. That doesn’t happen in mma. And btw that wasn’t technically a superman punch because Irvin didn’t jump through the air, he just faked a kick then threw the KO punch. Log in to Reply bbb July 19, 2008 he took a punch to the face when he was on the ground, while both of his hands were on the floor, not defending himslef, thats a rap. Im tired of taking about this shit. On to another topic, i think george st pierre should move up a weight class and face silva for the belt, he is so much bigger than ppl in his weight class man, its not even fair. I think his natural weight is 190, anyway i would love to see that fight, who would win? i would give the edge to silva but i dono Log in to Reply Dober238 September 11, 2008 I love watching Houston fight YOu will always see a knockout whether houston wins or not! Log in to Reply whatinthegoddamned****ingshit October 13, 2008 Seriously, stop shitting on Mazagatti! It was stopped so Houston didn’t get a hospital visit. He was done from the first ****ING punch you noobs. Log in to Reply fg182 October 13, 2008 dude if steve mazzagatti let it go any longer, then alexander still wouldve been knocked out. just like rogan pointed out that houston went limp after irvin made contact, if irvin stayed on top still serving him punches after he was already limp then alexander still wouldve been K.O’ed. plain and simple you idiots Log in to Reply TheIceMurderer October 31, 2008 What you guys need to realize that when houston alexander was getting hit on the ground and he went flat on his back what do you think would have happened if Steve Mazzagatti didn’t step in James irvin just would have kept hitting him and if he wasn’t knocked out he would have been. Log in to Reply mmaMNman November 3, 2008 Of course he is going to stay in the UFC. A hard striker who can have huge exciting knockouts, an already big name for himself and a glass jaw ready to get knocked out ALL make for big TV draws. Big TV = $$$ for UFC Of course he will keep fighting. Log in to Reply Kyle January 5, 2009 Good call by the ref. Houston was stiff and was out, he came back to after the ref already stopped it. Log in to Reply mrbk211 April 7, 2009 houston is tough but he got rocked hahahaha.. Log in to Reply yoyoyo July 26, 2009 LOL at the fan with the houston alexander poster! he must be thinking “wtf? i spent all nite printing and cutting this poster!” Log in to Reply sex July 9, 2013 Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual appeal. I must say that you’ve done a fantastic job with this. Additionally, the blog loads very fast for me on Firefox. Superb Blog!
