yikes! that fight should have ended way before it did, it sucks seeing a fighter take more damage than needed, it was really difficult seeing her arm get tangled in the ropes, she was out on her feet way before then.

OK, we all agree, that the ref should be banned.
On the other hand, I’ve been watching women’s boxing for years and Holly looked bush league with her flailing, lack of technique and any defense. Her trainer deserves some credit for that beating.

The craziest part is the French chick missed the hook while she was trapped in the ropes. That would have been brutal if she landed it.

The ref waved it off at 2:09… This ref is a disgrace and Holly did not deserve that much punishment after that Knockout. He should of stopped it when her arm got wrapped around the rope.

Body language alone should have told the ref that enough was enough. I haven’t seen a beat-down like that in many, many years. I wouldn’t let that ref manage a hotdog stand.

Thw ref was an idiot but what about her corner, can they not throw the towel? And if so, why didn’t that happen? Protect your fighter!

I have to disagree with most of the comments here about the referee. This fight was handled the way most men’s matches are handled. In women’s boxing most of the time the first time a competitor is hurt the referee steps in and stops the fight. But in men’s boxing if the hurt fighter is still punching back the referee let’s the bout go forward. Holly Holm never stopped punching back even in the seventh round. Only on the last two punches when she was knocked out did she not punch. Granted, he could have stopped it after she got tangled in the ropes, but he still thought she had a chance. Holly thought he did the right thing to give her the chance to come back, and the ref said it was a championship bout and he wanted to give Holly every chance to come back. I liked the fight and it turned into a really good women’s bout with a sensational finish.

Women are physically different than men. You are absolutely correct! Sports have found a ways around that! It involves only competing with your own gender. Problem solved! It is some complex in you mind makes you less tolerant to girl vs girl violence than to guy vs guy. It does not mean that it is inherently wrong, as long as they compete with the same gender. Women should be free to compete in any sport, including boxing and mma.

I think viking is on to something by his comment. Why can you tolerate one kind of violence and not the other? They are fighting their own gender. Why do you think women can’t take a beating (willingly in a sport) as well as men can? Or why shouldn’t they? The “they are physically inferior” argument doesn’t work because they are fighting their own gender. The other option is that they are inferior in some other way and should thus be protected. In which way do you think that women are inferior Dave? This is probably what drives your aversion towards women vs women fighting.

That ref should never work a fight ever again. And does anyone test these girls on whether they are actually anatomically female prior to these fights

The real Holm’s problem I see from this video is she never were able properly hit opponent’s face, yet she opened/unprotected her own. If she is a professional, this dangerous combo should never happen.
