Once world boxing champion Hector “Macho” Camacho on Tuesday was shot in a hail of gunfire in his home town of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, according to the the island’s largest newspaper, El Nuevo Dia.
Camacho was the passenger in a Ford Mustang when it was bombarded by bullets, and the driver of the car was killed, the newspapers reported. Camacho was rushed to the nearby Rio Piedras Medical Center with broken bones in his back.
The 50-year-old former boxer was unconscious as he was taken to the trauma center at Centro Medico in San Juan. Hospital officials told reporters he was in serious condition.
