Fight video of Heath Herring versus Cheick Kongo at UFC 82. |
if (is_feed()) { die(); }
I was hoping for Kongo to stay standing but it was a pretty good match
the ground game of both guys really improved , i think is was fair ,that heath won, and the split desicion was fair too,
Really entertaining fight, but since when did trading N-S and side control become technically impressive? I think… no, wait… yes: a single submission was attempted!
I have to say, though, I’ve really enjoyed the blind eye that Refs have been turning to strikes to the back of the head after that Lesnar/Mir debacle, highlighted with each fight in the “main event.” Is nice!
i think it was really close.. but i also think the fact that kongo got ALL the take downs.. shoul dhave made him the winner..
Was dissapointed with Kongo not trying to get out from under Herring…still good match up and herring really improved since changing coaching regime and coaches.
kongo did not get all the takedowns. he was dropped by a glancing blow the the nose/chin at the beginning of round one, and again when they exchanged kicks at the beginning of round two or three. also, if you ever studied wrestling, you would know that if someone takes you down, and you get out of it and back to the dominant position, that is points and is impressive. so, overall, i say it was a good fight. disappointed in the lack of jiu-jitsu submission attempts and the fact that they never stood up for more than 10 seconds at a time. when a fight is that close you should try to finish it, not let the judges give you a split decision. even if it was fair.
First round to Kongo, and Herring got the second and third.
ummmm was i watching the same fight…congo pretty much owned the first two rounds and then herring started some offense with 90 secs left in the 2nd…kongo should have won that fight…i cant stand herring..hes an unimpressive fighter who thought he was tough shit coming into the ufc and got beat by pretty much a nobody (O’brian)…he has no takedown defense whatsoever as shown in that fight and in this one with kongo pretty much being able to take himn down whenever…and hes also a boring fighter with all his fights in the ufc going to distance…i say to the ufc drop this piece of shit
Herring is one tough sonuva! He aint scared of no one I see, thats a true warrior right there.
Herring will probably fight Sylvia next. Herring’s record isn’t impressive enough to get a shot at the top 3 or 4 yet, but his name will be a good fight for Sylvia to make sure that Sylvia stays in the Top 5. I would look for Kongo to take on the either Gonzaga or the loser of Vera vs. Werdum. Kongo hasn’t impressed anyone in the UFC brass yet.
hearring won cause he won the end of the rounds
Herring just aint the same without knees to the head on the ground.
Both these “fighters” suck, they have no skills. They are both just giants who should be in the WWE. If u put them up against a real fighter, they would be destroyed. Even a little squirt like BJ Penn would finish these over sized clowns. Each UFC is becoming more lame than the last.
John Christopher – you’re retarded. Really retarded.
That was a very fast paced fight for a HW contest, Kongo surprising Herring (and everyone else) with his ground work.. it indeed was something of a yoyo, with it looking like either of the two would win the decision up to the final part of the 3rd round where Herring kneed him off.
I don’t know why this wasn’t “fight of the night”. Herring vs Nog 4 perhaps? Haha
it was a close fight. i was giving it to kongo slightly, but heath managed to erk ahead with the knee assault for the last 90 seconds. kongo really showed improvement on the ground, except in the last 90 minutes when it seems like he forgot how to get out of side control or something (role into the guy). but it seemed like Kongo was to stubborn in showing off his new found ground skill and neglected to use his bread and butter: his muay thai. he has much better stand up than heath.
This fight would have been over much sooner, with a possible tko win for either fighter, and a much more interesting and better selling fight if knees were allowed to the head on the ground. And i know it’s old, but im gonna keep saying that when it’s true until the damn rules are changed.
If Herring is offered a title fight after this split decision win (which I believe is not anything spectacular, or anything deserving of a bout for the title) I will start questioning match-maker Joe Silva and Dana White’s ability, and invest my money in another fight organization’s pay-per-veiw.
I think this fight should have not been shown, or at the very least part of the main card.
The bar where I was gonna watch it didn’t show it… PURE B.S!
Before I see the fight: I was gonna bet a $100 on Herring.
During the fight: WOW heath totally was expecting to fight a slugger. Kongo looks good, not the same for heath, good 2nd round finish though. I’m disappointed in Herring’s grappling.
After the fight: Damn I should have bet!
What fight were some of ya’ll watchin?
Kongo did get most of the takedowns,as a matter of fact,he controlled the fight until the last 2:40,he should have won that fight.
Heath herring only reversed kongo twice, look at the control factor, heath didn’t do enough to win.
I wish it would’ve stayed stand up,why isn’t the silva henderson on here though
Kongo should have won the fight, I thought Kongo only lost the last round.
In my country these two ‘men’ would have been shot for fighting so boring.
In my country broken glass would have been poured into the ring as punishment for not trying harder.
In my country men are men and so are the women.
damn, what country is that Durk?
Oh yeah? I’d love to see you as a man telling one of these dudes that they ain’t man enough for you.
Either one of them would surely knock you silly with a cock swing.
I agree with Adjatay. I’ve watched this fight a few times now and I still give it to Kongo. Heath only really won the last round. The first round no question Kongo. Second round, I can see how Heath’s knees at the end of the fight were impressive. But how about the fact that he was being controlled for three minutes of the round. What was most impressive in this fight was Kongo’s progression as an mma fighter. His ground game has improved so much. In my mind the decision should have gone to Kongo. Look for him to win his next fight.
Good fight. Lots of back and forth action. Herring failed to capitalize on either of the knock downs. Somebody needs to teach him to go for the throat. Congos back was exposed each time he was knocked down. The second or so while he was stunned would have been a great time to choke that big bastard.
good decicion win for herring equaly macthed opponents.
@D-Rex: Durkadurkastanor of course!
I counted 4 takedowns for Kongo within the first 7 mins of this video and none for Herring. Unless this fight went 180 in the second half, Kongo got ripped off cause it looked like he was clearly dominating to me.
I appreciate all what you guys are saying, and so does Heath. The facts are that Kongo is 1 strong mofo! Heath was and is not scared of anyone, thats a fact. He has over 40 mma fights to his career, that says it all. The main factors in all mma fights are cardio endurance. When your that big it gets really tough to go 3 or even 5 full rounds with the weight. Kongo is a great athlete but his experience had no match for Heath’s. Come say hi to Heath at his site (fans only) HEATH-HERRING.COM.
kongo got some take downs but he couldnt do anything when was on top at least herring delivered blows. kongo is an overated bum.
kongo finally learned how to take someone down. now he needs to learn how to strike someone when he has them down. herring was landing strikes when he had kongo down. heath easily won the fight, take downs dont mean shit if you cant exacute offense.
