It’s funny how people change their opinion on fighters based off of one performance. If I did that I would think anderson silva was a hack. Log in to Reply mma made easy February 13, 2012 he clearly won and had the superior strategy. You want to see two morons hit each other watch the co-main event. Log in to Reply randycouture February 13, 2012 how can you not have anything but respect for GSP. man is he ever confident. on the flip side. why can’t chuck put two words together???? Log in to Reply jeff_figmb February 13, 2012 How can anyone say Condit clearly won?!?!?! Far from clear. So many MMA anylists have gone back and reviewed the tapes and most give the fight to Diaz… Shut the **** up with this “Clearly won” bullshit. The guy ran around the the octogon like a little bitch throwing weak ass gay leg kicks. I don’t pay for UFC PPV’s to watch a homo avoid a fight. We pay to see dudes get after it and FIGHT!! Not run around in circles avoiding the other guy. I can’t stand Condit now! I really have no interest in watching him fight ever again after this BS… Log in to Reply brn February 13, 2012 he clearly won! barely had a mark on his face CONDIT! CONDIT! CONDIT! haha bos bos bos in ya face Log in to Reply brunohumper February 13, 2012 @jeff_figmb you clearly dont know shit about mma, that was a well executed game plan from condit. condit landed 159 strikes to diaz’ 117 thats prety good for “running around”. damn good game plan to fight diaz with he only comes forward why play his game. But regardless close fight, and 2 of those judges scored it 49-46 thats kinda messed up Log in to Reply cigronne February 13, 2012 Condit won hands down Log in to Reply dznr February 13, 2012 so whats the difference when wrestler (like GSP) takes someone down and lay and prey? That’s there strategy – well Diaz is a fighter that wants the push forward and if you stand in front your going to get banged up (like Penn) but if you move and make Diaz work and take him out of that face to face war then the fight changes and Condit wanted to exchange and move. Just look at the compustrike condit landed more Kicks, Power Punches and strikes so tell me something why does Diaz deserve to win? Log in to Reply ocho fett February 13, 2012 @jeff You “IS” on drugs fool(or diaz nuts)! Condit clearly did win! I can say the same for the other analyst that say Carlos Condit won. If its a skill-less slug fest you are looking for with almost no technique what so ever, go watch some amatuer heavy weight boxing, and get the hell away from MMA. Its called Mixed Martial Arts buddy not move foward and punch each other till someone falls down. Diaz comes at you like a train and he’s tough as hell, if carlos did the same he would have got ktfo! and for the record dodging punches and escaping a barrage of attacks, then postioning your self in the middle of the cage to fight again is called strategy. Log in to Reply onepunchKO February 13, 2012 i so ****in tired of hearing this bull shit that diaz won that i lost respect for condit dud condit outlanded diaz in 4 out of 5 rounds landed more strikes than diaz overall ??? what are u guys crying about ?? i dont understand??? he had a better game plan thats it he won the fight fair and square he ran from diaz?? i didint know that u can outstrike someone will running “the hole fight” thats the dumbest shit ive ever heard .. face the facts condit won fair and square Log in to Reply tally2312 February 13, 2012 Jeff you are correct! Condit landed 64 leg kicks. If you kick someones leg over 20 times and they are able to walk out of the ring, they are baby kicks as Diaz said. If GSP dry humped Diaz for 5 rounds there would be no dispute that George would’ve won because he’d be imposing his homosexual will on Diaz. However, running away from a fight like Condit did only shows his superiority if it was a track race. Log in to Reply ^^^^ February 13, 2012 First off, if you hate Condit because you think he ran, then you need to find a new sport. Diaz would of quit when GSP lays on him for 5 rounds. This is MMA and if you can’t do anything about it, you either train harder or move on to boxing if all you want to do is stand and punch. You all want to criticize Condit, but Nick said the stupidest thing during the post fight interview… he said if I knew I was losing then I would of tried to finish the fight. Clearly Nick didn’t deserve to win either, he never went after the fight, he only walked forward until Condits back was on the cage, he spent more time taunting than throwing a punch. Why didn’t Nick try to take the fight earlier to the ground or set up something? Like I said, stop your whining, if Condit didn’t deserve to win then neither did Diaz. I wouldn’t mind a rematch. Log in to Reply k91st February 13, 2012 Wow this will never end, there have been many fighters used the same strategy. If it works great if not to bad. It has been said to death don’t leave it in the hands of the judges Log in to Reply rugburnbob February 13, 2012 Hmmm did Diaz push him around the ring or did Condit force him to follow… My vot is for Condit, smart plan, good execution, good focus, and clearly frustrated Diaz! Not the fire works we all hoped for, but same can be said fo mayweather, michael nunn, pee wee whitaker etc…hey and they were all winners! It is a sport after all not a brawl… Maybe it is time for a sister league? UBC ultimate brwling championship…no refs, no rules one man walks away… oops I think that died in Rome. Log in to Reply rugburnbob February 13, 2012 Darn typos! Log in to Reply jeff_figmb February 13, 2012 Ocho donkey, you’re a huge tool hands down. I’ve been watching this sport since 93 ya hack. I am like 95% of fight fans, not the 5% tool bag fight fan like yourself who trains mma twice a week and then calls himself a real MMA fan. We don’t care how much you know so **** off. What people want to see is someone get ****ed up dah… Majority of the people out there don’t care to watch a fight like the Dias condit fight, cause most people watching aren’t mma geeks like yourself. We wanna see guys go in for the kill, go big and take guys out, not dance around, run away, avoid a fight and score little leg kicks… Take JDS for example, you think he would ever run a gameplan like Condit did against Diaz? Hell no, cause he’s a real fighter and makes an effort to do what the fans want to see… Once again ocha donkey, we’re really proud of you and your knowledge of the sport. Haha who cares! Bring on the knockouts and blood baths. Get with the program toolbag, that’s what people really want to see, it’s been that way since the gladiator days. Guys like GSP and Condit don’t represent gladiators at all, but little athletes only going for points. Boring… Log in to Reply brucelee23 February 13, 2012 Diaz fansssssszzzzzzzzzzzzz. Carlos is the new interim Champ !! Lets move on … Log in to Reply Death Grip February 13, 2012 Diaz was fighting to finish, Condit was not. Condit marketed this fight as “Natural Born Killer” who stops virtually all his opponents. He did not ever try to stop Diaz. I am glad I did not pay for that fight. I would have felt ripped off with how Condit sold it. I would not pay for a GSP/Condit match, but would pay for a GSP/Diaz match. It’s too bad. Losing like that sucks. Log in to Reply ocho fett February 13, 2012 @jeff ahahahahaha f@g… and for the record i dont train mma twice a week ok!!!…. I train once a week! ahahaha Log in to Reply Gogoplatypus February 13, 2012 Fight metric’s tally for this fight: http://blog.fightmetric.com/2012/02/condit-vs-diaz-official-ufc-statistics.html If you break it down by looking at fight metric’s round-by-round scores, you can make a pretty good argument that Diaz won rounds 1,2,and 5. Round 1 Diaz landed 2 power shots and 14 jabs to the head against Condit’s 0 power shots and 7 jabs to the head. Body shots Diaz landed 4 power and 7 jabs to Condit’s 2 power and 5 jabs. Granted, Condit out lands Diaz in kicks with 5 power and 11 jabs against only 1 jab from Diaz, but Diaz’s 14 jabs to Condit’s face, advantage in body shots, and octagon control should be enough to put him ahead. (you might say Diaz didn’t have effective octagon control, but if you had to give it to someone, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t give it to Condit) Round 2 doesn’t really require an explanation. Diaz out lands Condit in significant, total, head, and body strikes, with Condit coming ahead in only the leg jab department. Diaz is the clear winner for this round. Rounds 3 and 4 I give to Condit, and round 5 to Diaz because he took Condit’s back in an otherwise pretty close round. Hopefully this makes the argument that rounds 1,2, and 5 could have (should have?) gone to Diaz more substantial. Log in to Reply asdf February 13, 2012 Jesus jeff_figmb is hilarious, hes probably trolling but did anyone else see the dan hardy and dong hyung kim fights? Condit wasted those dudes why is everyone calling him boring Log in to Reply fightdontbefake February 13, 2012 @ Gogoplatypus No one on here will see this because it takes brains to read and comprehend numbers. From my standpoint, good post. I have been watching UFC for a long long time, my uncle fought in UFC 19 and a couple of others. I believe Diaz won the fight, I also believe the rules/judging needs to be addressed (whether that be the judges going back into a room and watching the film over again or changing rules, like running or not engaging, similar to pride rules). Many analyst do agree that Diaz won as well, rounds 1,2, and 5. As far as losing respect for anyone, it is NOT Condits fault, if anyone should get the blame (for a winning GAME not FIGHT plan) it should be Greg Jackson, his coach/strategist. Log in to Reply John Boss February 13, 2012 As far as i am concerned, Condit is the only welterweight fighter who can pretend to be at GSP’s level. A class act dude too! Log in to Reply richplease February 13, 2012 condit fought scared and for the guys listing how many more strikes condit landed please note that nick landed more head and body shots than condit, condits strikes only appear to be more than nicks becuz he broke the ufc record for leg kicks. i have no problem with winning with leg kicks, but at least hurt the guy with the kicks not just tap them. faber v aldo now thats how u win via leg kicks, condit v diaz i thought condit should have been warned for turning his back to nick so much when he kept escaping from the fence. Log in to Reply richplease February 13, 2012 @asdf becuz once he faces a top guy he turns into a mini gsp. imo condits lack of engagement and running from nick is worse than gsp’s lnp style. at least gsp brings it to you and dominates, running and landing lil baby kicks is a lame tactic to win a fight with. Log in to Reply fightdontbefake February 13, 2012 Unfortunately the UFC is not about fighting anymore, it’s about game plans. Back in the day (UFC/PRIDE) you fought multiple guys a night, sure you had a basic game plan for each person, knowing what their strengths were, but the way to win a fight was much much different. You actually had to stop your opponent, not just out score them. This is why many fighters, GSP (GPS for some of you)/Condit and others fight to win points, because fighting today has changed, you do not need to stop an opponent to win, specially in the UFC (ultimate? I think not!). If it were longer timed rounds, longer timed fights, and/or no time, then fighters (game planers?) would not be fighting the game plans that we see today, they would be going for the kill. HOWEVER, the UFC is well aware of this, and they do these short rounds for a reason. They do it for money, plane and simple. The less timed rounds the more fights a fighter can have, the more fights the more events, the more events…well you get the idea. Log in to Reply rob February 13, 2012 Jeff, you’re an idiot. I understand your passion for flavor and spice in a fight, but a sanctioned sport with regulations and one that can’t quite be described as one-dimensional calls for all forms and disciplines. It’s not brawling or bar-fighting, or boxing at that. The game’s best technical fighters are usually the ones who hold the belt for a while. Diaz is strong at: striking, taking a beating, cardio and ju-jitsu. Why try to stand and bang? Carlos demonstrated his superior muay thai and execution of His game plan by not giving in to the will of Diaz’s style. When it comes to judges and scoring, hey, that’s all them. Two people will look at rules and it get two different interpretations. SO Diaz took Carlos’ back… He didn’t secure a submission and Carlos ended up on top buddy. Depends what aspect you’re focusing on. I like seeing both fighters and was emotionally neutral for the fight’s outcome. I don’t hate GSP and would only want to see him lose to someone who was better than a well-timed KO effort. Log in to Reply WTFson February 13, 2012 I’m not impressed by you’re performance breaking down that fight gsp. Log in to Reply N8manrightstr8 February 13, 2012 IAM #1 DIAZ FAN and i will tell you it was a close fight…. I personally the first time watched it thought diaz robbed but after watching it again and again i felt that condit was the smarter fighter.. even though we dont want to see what he did he stuck to the gameplan IN A FIGHT SUPER HARD.. with someone talking shit…BUT i wwould have to say diaz won with octagon control and aggression 2/3 major point systems besides significant strikes Log in to Reply leroy February 14, 2012 I miss you Pride! MMA nerds please kill yourself. “better game plan. scored more points, blah blah blah.” go watch Karate tournaments Log in to Reply Sunfish Hero February 14, 2012 @Gogplatypus – You know, I’ve been a staunch fighter for Condit winning that fight based on the overall stats of the fight, and I can still see why the judges scored it for Condit, but you make a compelling argument. The more I watch the fight the more difficult it becomes to judge. When I first saw the fight I thought Condit won without question, but that 5th was really close. Though I don’t believe getting a dominant position and being neutralized from it should win you a fight either. Take-downs are worth too damn much in this sport. That being said, I’m surprised the judges didn’t see the 5th for Diaz based entirely on him getting that take-down. Everyone is suggesting Jackson is to blame for this fight, but no one seems to be looking towards Diaz for letting down fans. I know he let me down, pursuing a losing strategy for 5 rounds is pure insanity. He’s so well-rounded, but he’s thoroughly settled into his bully approach to fighting now and relies too heavily on his toughness to see him through. It almost cost him against Paul Daley, who in my opinion, doesn’t match up well with Diaz at all based on Diaz’s grappling. Hopefully he’ll learn from this, and like a true fighter, get back on the horse. This whole, “This is unfair I quit!” bullshit cost him a lot of respect in my book. Log in to Reply steamer February 14, 2012 look at their faces….I still have a hard time scoring this one, but Diaz’ face showed more abuse than Condit. I know Nick cuts more easily than Carlos just naturally, but I’m just saying, you wanna talk all that shit about how all Carlos did was run and throw baby kicks? Then how the hell did Nicks face get all busted up? Log in to Reply steamer February 14, 2012 oh and BTW, I don’t have a problem with the guy, and enjoy some doobage once in a while myself, but why aren’t any of you guys rushing to Nicks defense, bringing up the fact that he pissed hot for weed? what are you ****ing 17? YOU’RE FIGHTING FOR A UFC BELT! PUT THE SHIT DOWN FOR A COUPLE MONTHS MAN! Jesus Christ. Get real. Log in to Reply Gogoplatypus February 14, 2012 @ fightdontbefake Thanks for the reply. It might have been a more boring fight than we expected, but I’m not hating on Condit or Greg Jackson either. This is their job after all, so they’re just trying to do whatever they can within the rules to put food on the table. I definitely agree with you that these rules and judging methods we’re talking about should be looked at though. Rogan mentioned on his podcast that he finds it easier to see what’s going on watching a fight on TV than from one angle at the base of the cage. Maybe judges should be placed in a room away from distractions to watch the fights on screens from multiple angles? The must-finish option would definitely make for more exciting fights too. Fights could start with a 10min round like in Pride and go on for however many rounds until a fighter finishes or the other’s corner throws in a towel. If no fighter finishes in a maximum number of rounds, then the fight will be declared a draw and both fighters issued a fine. Fines will be given for holding and evading action too. This would of course never be done in the UFC now because it would mean a complete makeover, but isn’t finishing what fighting is all about? The must-finish system would make every fight exciting guaranteed, and I honestly think not too many fights would go to a draw. 25-30min is plenty of time for a finish if both fighters have the incentive to put their neck out to do so. It might take longer, but I’d rather watch 3 quality fights than 4 three-round decisions and a five-round decision main event. Log in to Reply greengiant February 14, 2012 quit crying for diaz condit won deal with it.some fans are so out of it they would think their fav fighter won even if they lost, like diaz. Log in to Reply KungFuLowKick February 14, 2012 Thats so stupid the guys here talking about a Must finish rule.So a fight can only be finished by KO or sub??Good luck finding good fighters to do that. The guys will have a 5 years career if they are lucky and they will never develop completly because they will be vegetables from all the Kos and beatings they took. Then after a couple of years dumb ass politicians will ban the sport again because it will no be a sport but a show where people get the shit beat out of them. GSP fully controls the Octagon and the pace of the fight but Carlos definitely didn’t do that, he was sneaking in weak shots and running away that’s not how GSP fights he usually fully controls the fight. Log in to Reply Dave February 15, 2012 for me the is not about who won who didn’t weather Diaz Won or lost is not the issue Diaz was coming forward to fight. but I was disappointed with Condit it was a very weak win in his part I think he has better ability than sneak in little shots and runaway. what many don’t understand is that people are not unhappy because Condit didn’t do a brawal street fight style but its because people including me expected he could do better thank that, in no way Carlos controlled the octagon. one of the most important aspect of the winning a fight is to control octagon because running away surly isn’t controlling the fight Log in to Reply Dave February 15, 2012 @brunohumper I find it funny you telling jeff he doesn’t know shit about mma but I can see you don’t know crap about MMA.
